IKE - Index of Knowledge Economy and Maturity ModelMohamed Bouanane
While many existing Information and Knowledge Society indices focus exclusively on technology, a comprehensive composite index across all areas and taking into account the key factors has not been exhaustively defined. Developing a comprehensive index, from scratch, to measure the knowledge economy maturity and its impact on the whole society is a complex task. The adopted approach aggregates a large number of known indicators reflecting various key factors of the society and economy and regularly published by different international organizations.
This approach aims to avoid creating new indicators that might be difficult to collect, assess and to maintain, and will ensure data comparability across countries. The indicators should be exhaustive and hence capture different aspects such as inputs (drivers), enablers (business environment) and outputs (performance). Moreover, a sensitivity analysis is conducted to select the most appropriate weights for the sub-indices.

it & Economic Performance a Critical Review of the Empirical DataWaqas Tariq
The present study undertakes a critical review of the research around the multi-significant issue of the correlation between the IT investments and the economic performance to both micro and macroeconomic level. The aim of this study is to shed light on the interaction of IT with the economy, at corporate, industry and national level and document it¢ s contribution to productivity and therefore to economic growth. My conclusion is that there is a positive effect of IT investments to both the above economic indicators in all aspects, but is something that needs further research so as to find a more clear and risk adjusted relation.
productos separados (p.e impresora, escáner, software, servidor y red).
Winning with the Industrial Internet of Things: How to accelerate the journey...accenture
The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) will bring new economic growth, reinventing sectors that account for almost two-thirds of world output. The raw technical conditions for the widespread adoption of the IIoT are highly favorable. Today, the IIoT is helping to improve productivity, reduce operating costs and enhance worker safety. As the world struggles to emerge from a phase of weak productivity growth, fragile employment and pockets of inadequate demand, the IIoT offers a chance to redefine many sectors and accelerate economic and employment growth.
In this issue of JEGI’s Client Briefing Newsletter, JEGI provides highlights from the sixth annual Outsell Signature Event co-produced by JEGI and held October 3-5, 2012 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hampshire, UK. This global conference brings together senior executive leaders from both strategic companies and private equity firms across the information industry. Also in this issue is an insightful article on successfully integrating digital acquisitions authored by Christopher Vollmer, Gregory Springs and Harry Hawkes of Booz & Co. JEGI provides excerpts from “The Social Media Ecosystem – Rise of Users, Intelligence and Operating Systems”, a report on social media prepared by Amir Akhavan, a JEGI Director and published by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB). JEGI’s M&A update shows that deal activity reached impressive highs through the first three quarters of 2012, despite economic and political uncertainty. Smaller deals have dominated the market (91% of transactions were less than $50 million in value), and strategic companies were buyers on 85% of deals in 2012 through September, as they continue to invest in higher growth revenue streams and new services for their customers. JEGI also highlights its exceptional transaction experience across its core sectors, including the recent sale of InfoGroup’s OneSource to Cannondale Investments and GTCR; the sale of DMGT’s Evanta to Leeds Equity; and many others.
IDC Manufacturing Insights Accelerating Business Change Through Next Generati...Anthony Robinson
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
IDC Manufacturing Insights recently conducted a worldwide study of over 375 enterprises, across multiple discrete manufacturing sectors covering 12 countries, on behalf of Infor. The survey showed that:
● Complexity is dramatically growing, with market, operational aspects, and IT the main business areas that will grow significantly in complexity over the next three years. To beat complexity, manufacturers will need to improve and speed up their decision-making capability.
● Ineffective or inadequate IT is emerging as the single most critical barrier to mastering complexity. Discrete manufacturers also recognize that their current ERP systems have a number of limitations or weaknesses that hamper their ability to improve decision making.
Other findings were that:
● Modernizing IT architectures and business applications used to support new, customer-driven operating models is a priority for companies across all industry segments. Manufacturers now have the opportunity to simplify IT architectures by leveraging the four IT forces of mobility, social technologies, big data analytics, and cloud computing. We believe that those companies that are currently investing aggressively in these four areas will soon enjoy the benefits of higher revenue growth, improved profitability, and customer-led innovation.
● New, enterprisewide "operational ERP" is needed as opposed to mere "financial ERP." Operational ERP will encapsulate the most critical operational processes — customer order management, manufacturing operations management, and supply chain execution — in a tight, integrated, and coordinated environment based on the four IT forces.
● Manufacturers may be in for a shock when it comes to managing this IT change. They will realize that past investments in traditional technologies are now rapidly becoming redundant.

New Technology Based Firms and Venture Capital policy in NigeriaAdebola Daramola
An exploratory research employing systematic evolutionary approach (Avnimelech and Teubal 2002) to study Venture Capital and New Technology Based Firms in Nigeria. It offers a history of economic agents, actors activities and linkages in the creation of technology based firms in Nigeria, with due consideration to their economic outcomes and social impacts (Gault 2010).
Though Nigeria has no defined VC policy, the paper assumes so with Supply side policies such as the Venture Capital (Incentives) Decree No .89 1993 and 2001 Small and Medium-Scale Industries Equity Investment Scheme (SMEIS).
Macroeconomic factors (such as supply side and demand side policies) would support the emergence of NTBFs as seen from the study. In Nigeria, tremendous efforts have been made to resolve small business finance, with no particular attention directed at technology-based firms.
There is an increasing need for demand side policy changes (i.e. initiatives to improve both financial and managerial capabilities of technology entrepreneurs in Nigeria). Infrastructure supports for Nigerian NTBFs are misplaced with continuous reliance on technology transfer above creative creation within the economy.
With this study, knowledge has been extended about the policy environment that foster Venture Capital and NTBFs in Nigeria.

Determinants of Business Performance in the Nigerian Manufacturing Sectorijtsrd
This study examines the determinants of business performance in the Nigerias manufacturing sector. The study was necessitated by the perceived declining performance of the Nigeria manufacturing sector. Secondary data covering the period 1980 2018 were sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria. The model's estimates were estimated via multiple econometric model of the ordinary least square to ascertain the effect of macroeconomic variable Financial intermediation, Infrastructure, Market size, Exchange rate, Interest rate and Inflation rate on the business performance in the Nigerias manufacturing sector. From the result of the OLS, it was observed that financial intermediation, infrastructure and market size have a positive impact on manufacturing sector while exchange rate, interest rate and inflation rate have a negative impact on manufacturing sector in Nigeria. From the regression analysis, the results also show that all the variables conform to the a priori expectation of the study. With the exception of infrastructure and inflation rate, all other variables are statically significant which indicates that financial intermediation, market size, exchange rate, interest rate are good determinants of business performance in the Nigerian manufacturing sector. The study recommends that the energy sector needs to be overhauled especially the EEDC to supply just the sufficient energy to drive the economy. Painstaking and well coordinated macro economic policies with special references to the price level and exchange rate regime need to be put in place to ameliorate the business sector among others. Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
