Identifying learning outcomes and objectives
Identifying learning outcomes and objectives is crucial for educational design and instructional planning. Outcomes provide a holistic perspective, while objectives are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound targets. These align with curriculum, strategies, and assessment methods, ensuring purposeful, measurable, and transformative learning experiences. This empowers educators and learners.

II. Determine the Desired End Results
Identifying learning outcomes and objectives is a crucial step in the instructional design process, as it helps determine the desired end results of a learning experience. Learning outcomes are statements that describe what learners should know, understand, or be able to do after completing a learning activity, while objectives are specific, measurable, and achievable milestones that contribute to achieving those outcomes. Here's how identifying learning outcomes and objectives helps determine the desired end results:
1. Clarifies Purpose
2. Guides Instructional Design
3. Measurable Criteria
4. Aligns Assessment
5. Informs Evaluation
6. Motivates Learners
7. Facilitates Communication
8. Adaptable to Learner Needs
9. Continuous Improvement
II. Use Action Verbs
Identifying learning outcomes and objectives is a critical step in instructional design and education planning. Learning outcomes articulate what students should know or be able to do after completing a course or learning experience, while objectives break down these outcomes into specific, measurable, and achievable tasks. Action verbs play a crucial role in crafting clear and effective learning objectives. Let's explore the relationship between identifying learning outcomes and objectives through the use of action verbs.
1. Clarity and Precision
2. Measurability
3. Behavioral Focus
4. Alignment with Bloom's Taxonomy

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

your students to achieve
(Robert Mager, 1984 in his book “Preparing instructional objectives)
These are foundation for Teaching, Learning and Evaluation in
education system. These are basically statements which clearly

Affective objectives Focusing on emotions or
effect
Psychomotor objectives Focusing on body
12/16/2023 12
13. COGNITIVE OBJECTIVES
Cognitive objectives deal with what a
student should know, understand, or
comprehend.
Cognitive objectives vary from simple recall
of material learned to higher-order
thinking skills like synthesis and evaluation.
12/16/2023 13
14. Examples
Define key terms related to Management
List the major events in the Product Life Cycle
Identify the main components of a Banking system
Design an original experiment to test a scientific hypothesis.
Create a marketing plan for a new service
Develop a computer program to solve a specific problem.
Assess the strengths and weaknesses of a historical argument.
Evaluate the effectiveness of a public health campaign.
12/16/2023 14
15. AFFECTIVE OBJECTIVES
Affective objectives deal with how a student should
feel about something. These objectives aim to change
or influence a learner's feelings, values, beliefs, or
attitudes.
Examples
Students will develop a positive attitude toward teamwork by
successfully completing group projects.
Students will exhibit increased tolerance for cultural differences
through participation in a cultural exchange program.
12/16/2023 15
16. Participants will enhance their self-confidence in decision-
making by participating in a leadership development program.
After completing the resilience training program, employees will
be better equipped to cope with workplace stress and setbacks.
After participating in team-building activities, employees
will demonstrate a greater willingness to collaborate and
work effectively with their colleagues.
12/16/2023 16
17. PSYCHOMOTOR OBJECTIVES
Concerned with how a student controls or moves his
body. Focus on the development of physical or motor
skills.
These objectives are often used in fields such as physical
education, sports training, vocational training, and other
hands-on or skill-based disciplines
12/16/2023 17
18. EXAMPLES
By the end of the course, the student will be able to swim a
distance of 25 meters using a front crawl stroke with proper
technique.
Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to
change a flat tire on a standard vehicle in under 15 minutes.
After the course, participants should be able to perform
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a mannequin with
correct chest compressions and rescue breaths.
The learner will be able to safely operate a welding
machine, including setting the correct parameters and using
proper safety equipment.
