Organisational power and politics involve the ability to influence others. There are various bases of power including reward power based on providing benefits, coercive power through threats, legitimate power from one's position, referent power through personal attraction, and expert power from special knowledge. Power is acquired through doing extraordinary things, cultivating relationships, forming coalitions, and eliminating threats. Politics in organizations can be managed by having clear goals and job definitions, open communication to discourage dysfunctional behaviors, and rewarding positive behaviors.
Venezuela was once prosperous due to its large oil reserves, but declined sharply when oil prices dropped. The socialist government had provided free services and goods to citizens without developing other industries. When oil money decreased, the country could no longer afford these handouts and inflation skyrocketed. Shortages of food and basic necessities led to looting, prostitution, and even reports of cannibalism as 35 million Venezuelans had come to rely on the state for survival. This practical example shows the dangers of excessive dependency on a single resource without economic diversification.

This document discusses two principles related to career advancement and competence:
1. The Paula Principle suggests that women tend to work below their competence levels due to obstacles like lack of opportunities, childcare responsibilities, and lack of confidence. This wastes women's skills and talents.
2. The Peter Principle notes that people in a hierarchy tend to be promoted until they reach a level of incompetence. They then remain stuck, leading organizations to be managed by incompetent leaders over time. Ways to avoid this include ensuring proper training and skills for new roles.
The document also examines the Dunning-Kruger effect of incompetent people overestimating their abilities, and imposter syndrome, where
This document discusses working capital management. It defines working capital as current assets minus current liabilities, which identifies a firm's ability to meet short-term obligations. The document outlines different types of working capital including permanent/fixed working capital required for regular operations and temporary/variable working capital needed for seasonal needs. It also lists various factors that determine a company's working capital needs such as the nature of its business, operating cycle, growth plans and price fluctuations. Maintaining sufficient but not excessive working capital provides benefits like flexibility but can also lead to overcapitalization and low returns if not managed properly.
This document discusses various long-term and short-term sources of working capital for businesses. Long-term sources include issuing equity shares, preference shares, debentures/bonds, and retaining earnings. Short-term sources include trade credit, commercial paper, advances from customers, and bank credit facilities like cash credit, overdraft, and letters of credit. The benefits, types, and merits of each source are outlined.
This document discusses receivables management. It defines receivables as money owed to a firm by customers from sales. Effective receivables management optimizes profits by balancing investment in receivables with sales levels and costs of maintaining receivables like capital costs and collection costs. Firms must determine appropriate credit policies including credit terms, credit limits, and collection efforts to maximize returns while minimizing bad debts and collection period. Tools like credit analysis, aging schedules, and ratio analysis help firms monitor receivables and collection performance.
This document discusses various techniques for inventory management. It begins by defining inventory and the objectives of inventory management as maintaining sufficient stock levels for production and sales while minimizing total inventory costs. It then outlines different motives for holding inventory such as transactional, precautionary, and speculative motives. The benefits and risks of holding inventory are also presented. The key techniques discussed include economic order quantity (EOQ) modeling, ABC analysis for categorizing inventory items, just-in-time systems, and methods for determining stock levels.
This document discusses cash management strategies for businesses. It describes cash as a medium of exchange that includes notes, coins, checks, and bank deposits. It then outlines strategies for managing cash flow, including:
1) Preparing cash budgets and using concentration banking to quickly collect and deposit receipts across collection centers.
2) Implementing lockbox collections where local banks directly deposit receipts to reduce clearance time.
3) Accelerating collections, delaying payments to the due date, and using floats to the firm's advantage to maximize available cash.

This document provides an overview of transactional analysis (TA), an approach to studying interpersonal relationships and communication. It discusses key aspects of TA including ego states (parent, adult, child), transactions (complementary, crossed, ulterior), scripts, games, life positions, and stroking. The characteristics and behaviors associated with each ego state are described. The document also outlines theories governing behavior and the benefits of understanding TA, such as improved interpersonal communication and motivation.
From Concept to reality : Implementing Lean Managements DMAIC Methodology for...Rokibul Hasan
The Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry in Bangladesh is a cornerstone of the economy, but increasing costs and stagnant productivity pose significant challenges to profitability. This study explores the implementation of Lean Management in the Sampling Section of RMG factories to enhance productivity. Drawing from a comprehensive literature review, theoretical framework, and action research methodology, the study identifies key areas for improvement and proposes solutions.
Through the DMAIC approach (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), the research identifies low productivity as the primary problem in the Sampling Section, with a PPH (Productivity per head) of only 4.0. Using Lean Management techniques such as 5S, Standardized work, PDCA/Kaizen, KANBAN, and Quick Changeover, the study addresses issues such as pre and post Quick Changeover (QCO) time, improper line balancing, and sudden plan changes.
The research employs regression analysis to test hypotheses, revealing a significant correlation between reducing QCO time and increasing productivity. With a regression equation of Y = -0.000501X + 6.72 and an R-squared value of 0.98, the study demonstrates a strong relationship between the independent variables (QCO downtime and improper line balancing downtime) and the dependent variable (productivity per head).
The findings suggest that by implementing Lean Management practices and addressing key productivity inhibitors, RMG factories can achieve substantial improvements in efficiency and profitability. The study provides valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers seeking to enhance productivity in the RMG industry and similar manufacturing sectors.

Is Agile dead? It depends on what you mean by 'Agile'. If you mean that the organizations are not getting the promised benefits because they were focusing too much on the team-level agile "ways of working" instead of systemic global improvements -- then we are in agreement. It is a misunderstanding of Agility that led us down a dead-end. At Org Topologies, we see bright sparks -- the signs of the 'second wave of Agile' as we call it. The emphasis is shifting towards both in-team and inter-team collaboration. Away from false dichotomies. Both: team autonomy and shared broad product ownership are required to sustain true result-oriented organizational agility. Org Topologies is a package offering a visual language plus thinking tools required to communicate org development direction and can be used to help design and then sustain org change aiming at higher organizational archetypes.

Healthy economic development requires properly managing the banking industry of any
country. Along with state-owned banks, private banks play a critical role in the country's economy.
Managers in all types of banks now confront the same challenge: how to get the utmost output from
their employees. Therefore, Performance appraisal appears to be inevitable since it set the
standard for comparing actual performance to established objectives and recommending practical
solutions that help the organization achieve sustainable growth. Therefore, the purpose of this
research is to determine the effect of performance appraisal on employee motivation and retention.

3. And here it goes….
A man who regularly attended meetings with his
friends, suddenly without notice stopped
participating
After a few weeks, one very cold night, the
leader of that group decided to visit him
4. The beautiful tale…
He found the man at home, alone, sitting in
front of a fireplace where a bright and cosy fire
burned
The man welcomed the leader.
There was a great silence.
5. And…
The two men only watched the dancing flames
around the logs that crackled in the fireplace.
6. And…
After a few minutes the leader, without saying a
word, examined the embers that formed and
selected one of them, glowing most brightly of
all, removing it to the side with a pair of tongs.
Then he sat down again.
7. And…
The host was paying attention to everything,
fascinated. Before long, the ember flame
subsided, until there was only a momentary
glow and the fire went out soon.
8. And…
In a short time, what was previously bright light
and heat had become nothing more than a back
and dead piece of coal.
Very few words had been spoken since the
greeting
9. And…
Before preparing to leave, the leader with the
tongs picked up the useless coal and placed it
again in the middle of the fire. Immediately, the
ember was re-kindled, fuelled by the light and
heat of the burning coals around it.
10. And…
When the leader reached the door to leave, the
host said: ‘’Thank you for your visit and for your
beautiful lesson. I will return to the group”.
Why is the group extinguished?
11. Very Simple:
Because each member that withdraws takes fire and
heat from the rest
Its worth reminding the group
members that they are a part of
the flame
It is also good to remind us that we
are all responsible for keeping each
other’s flame burning and we must
promote union among us so that
the fire is really strong, effective and
lasting.
12. Moral….
Here, lets meet, learn, exchange ideas or simply
know that we are not alone. Lets keep the flame
alive.
THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR FIRE
Life is beautiful with friends and family!!!
