Who started it :
99Acres.com is owned by Info Edge who also owns Naukri.com and
Jeevansathi.com. The parent company is Info Edge, funded by ICICI
Ventures, started in 1989 and became Info Edge(India) Ltd. on May
1, 1995. Since inception, Info Edge has provided project, marketing
and management consulting services to a number of clients in India
and abroad.
Info Edge long toyed with the idea of providing job information to
the public independently but was unable to identify a financially
viable technology backbone to do so. This changed when Internet
entered India.

They have changed the policies in second quarter of 2009 and have removed bad
listings/poor quality listings which has resulted in 33% drop in listings and revenue.
As per their CEO, 99acres main competitor is MagicBricks.com and the rest makaan.com
and indiaproperty.com are losing out because they are not investing enough. He also said
that 99Acres.com is the leader in the properties business with 30-40% share.
99Acres.com has currently 150-250 employees across 10 offices in India.

99acres.com, India's leading real estate portal has launched a commercial segment that will
cater to all possible commercial requirements of the real estate market in India. This segment
has been introduced seeing the hefty 30% share that the commercial sector occupies in the total
real estate market.
In this commercial segment one can advertise a property and also search for a property on the
basis of type, price, range and location. The search has been organized after assessing the
specific requirements of the Commercial sector.
So far, the main focus of 99acres.com was on the residential sector but it will now give major
importance to the commercial sector too, through this new initiative. Within a few days of a
soft launch of this service, 99acres.com already has 10,000 commercial property listings in its
databank. A registered user can also receive regular e-mails that will inform him about the
latest properties for sale/rent through its unique feature called "Property Alert".

sector. The database and the services created to support this segment will also offer online
transactions through a soon to be launched payment gateway of 99acres.com.
