2. In this frame, the central character of the movie is looking at his child through a window.
An interesting aspect of this frame is the lighting that is used to emphasize on the character
who’s expressions need to be portrayed. Although the scene is being shot from inside the
walls, the insides have been given less significance by reducing the light present indoors.
Furthermore, by shooting through grilled windows from inside the room, the essence of
separation between the character and his child is strengthened.
3. This frame is a wide-angle shot to incorporate both the character and his surrounding
characters. This is done to enhance the difference between the two. A mid shot was used
to ensure that only the details in the expressions of these characters are shown. The
character’s height plays a role in maintaining the viewers’ focus on him. The character’s
disassociation to the entire crowd is the focus of this shot.
4. Low-key lighting is used in this scene to make it intense. It may also have been used to
enhance the element of sadness that the plot revolves around. The amount of shadows in
the frame show stunning detail to both the character and the items present on the table.
However, an eye-level camera angle is used to maintain the natural essence of the scene,
so that it does not look formulated and/or artificial.
5. This is an establishing wide-angle shot of the scene. The frame mostly incorporates dull
colors, such as black and faded white. These colors are used to focus on the red car which
stands out vividly as the focal point of the shot. Natural lighting is used in this scene as the
amount of shadows and highlights are very minimal and no detailing had to be done. The
darkening effect of the shadows of the pillars balances the amount of white color in the
frame. This natural effect is intelligently used to create a very natural looking scene.
6. This is a mid frame shot of the character. It is a very distinct shot for multiple reasons.
Firstly, there is a visible blend between natural light and artificial light. Low-key natural light
has been used to increase the intensity of the scene along with the rain, while some
artificial light has been given to add highlights. The effect of rain drops on the glass is
controlled by lighting as well and it adds very much to the overall description of the scene.
7. An over the shoulder close-up shot can be seen making a feel of a conversation clearer. It
seems as though three point lighting is being used as the scene is filmed indoors and both
the characters are very clearly visible even though the mood of the scene is rather gloomy
and so the temperature of the shot has been adjusted.
8. An establishing shot can be seen, the main character seems restless but its standing still and
there are people moving around which displays chaos and is visual representation of how
the characters mind is frenzied.
9. A mid-shot is observed with low-key lighting to set the mood of the scene. The actor is a
method actor who seems very distressed and the lighting has been matched to the mood of
the character.
10. This is an establishing shot that displays the environment the main character walking into
the frame from the back who is currently blurred out. The drummer on the side and the
woman on the left balance the shot out so it does not look empty. The frenzied mind of the
character can be observed through the scene.
