1. ANALYSE THE WAY IN WHICH WOMAN ARE
REPRESENTED IN THE CLIP IN REFERENCE TO;
CAMERA (POSITION, SHOT TYPE, ANGLES,
MOVEMENT), EDITING AND MIS-EN-SCENE
HANNAH MARSHALL
2. 3 SHOT
• In this first ‘screen grab’ taken from the series spooks uses
the camera shot type of a 3shot to show how woman
are portrayed in to different ways, in the far left the
woman is dressed and done up as the stereotypical long
blonde, this gives us as an audience a sense of pity and
understanding towards her character as though she is
the ‘nice’ character. In contrast her partner who is
against the wall is dressed in a masculine form with short
hair, this portrays her, as a stereotypically, male dressed
female. The camera position allows us as an audience to
see the stances of the woman and the positioning on
the man. Overall this shot stimulates the idea of
dominance by woman.
3. CLOSE-UP
• This shot is a close up, this enables us to see his
facial features, due to the actions prior to this shot, it
gives a sense of superiority by the woman which is
also highlighted by the height difference between
the woman’s shoulder and the man’s face. The
man’s facial feature look as though he is anger and
helpless to the power of woman, his facial features
introduces the idea of empowerment of woman.
4. MIS-EN-SCENE
• This part of the opening, an establishing shot sets
the mis-en-scene to this scene, the caption on the
bottom gives a brief wording of the setting, the
colors used are dirty and gone off with the including
of limited lighting from the window light reflected to
the walls. The irony of this shot is that women are
stereotypically lavish, glamorous and of classy
taste, however in this female dominated scene the
mis-en-scene is the opposite this adds to an
element of mystery and concern on both
characters and the audience.
5. TRACKING
• Tracking was used here to include the audience, by
involving the audience it allows and makes them
feel as though they are traveling along this journey,
the camera follows the female Characters a lot
which could portray a sense of importance
amongst these characters because they are made
the main focus in this scene. It is almost as though it I
an alternate universe where there is no longer male
dominance but female dominance.
