Maslenitsa is a Russian spring festival celebrated the week before Lent. During Maslenitsa, people dress up in costumes, play in the snow, go sledding and have snowball fights as they say goodbye to winter and welcome spring. They make a straw doll called Lady Maslenitsa that is dressed up and burned on a bonfire on the last day of the festival to mark the beginning of Lent.
