This document contains a lesson plan for Lesson 6.3 on solving systems of linear equations using elimination. It provides examples of using elimination to solve 4 systems of equations. Students are assigned problems 1-22 from pages 351-352 of their textbook along with Checkpoint 6.1-6.2, due on Monday, January 28. The warm-up exercises involve graphing or substitution to solve systems. Elimination is explained as aligning like terms and adding or subtracting the equations to eliminate one variable before solving for the remaining variable and substituting back to find the other.

Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) was provided for Grade 10 students to enhance learning and to motivate and stir up the attention and interest of the students until they master the topic. This material depicts the entire definition of learning since it concludes a systematic development of students’ comprehension on a distinct lesson in Mathematics 10.
Exercises in Linear Algebra - Matrices and determinantsMaths Tutoring
Further practice:
Linear Algebra and its applications - Gilbert Strang
Linear Algebra and its applications - David C. Lay, Steven R. Lay, Judi J. McDonald

1. Lesson 63.notebook January 24, 2013
Assignment:
1>L6.3 >pg. 351352, #122 all Due Monday (1/28)
2>Checkpoint 6.16.2 Due Monday (1/28)
2. Lesson 63.notebook January 24, 2013
Lesson 6.3 WarmUp:
Solve #12 by graphing.
1) y = 1/2x
x + y = 3
2) y = 2x + 3
3y = 6x 6
Solve #35 by substitution.
3) x + 2y = 13
3x 5y = 6
4) y = 4x 1 5) x 5y = 10
y = 2x 5 2x 10y = 20

Lesson 6.3:
*ANOTHER way to solve a linear system is by using ELIMINATION.
*Steps:
write the system so that "like" terms are aligned
add or subtract the equations, eliminating one variable. Then
solve for the remaining variable
substitute the value from step 2 into one of the equations and
solve for the other variable
write the solution as an ordered pair
4. Lesson 63.notebook January 24, 2013
Lesson 6.3 examples:
Use elimination to solve each system of equations.
A) 4x + 6y = 32
3x 6y = 3
B) 4y + 3x = 22
3x 4y = 14
5. Lesson 63.notebook January 24, 2013
**Sometimes we can eliminate one variable by "subtracting" one equation
from the other one...
C) 8b + 3c = 11
8b + 7c = 7
D) 2t + 5r = 6
9r + 2t = 22
6. Lesson 63.notebook January 24, 2013
E) 3 times a number plus 5 times another number is 11. 3 times the
first number plus 7 times the other number is 1. Find each number.
