Use substitution to solve the system of equations in #1­2.

Use elimination to solve the system of equations in #3­5.
3) 8x + 5y = 38
­8x + 2y = 4
4) 5m ­ 2p = 24
3m + 2p = 24

Lesson 6.4:
*Sometimes we need to multiply one or both of the equations ­ to be able
to use "elimination" for solving the system of equations.
Steps:
­­Multiply at least one equation by a number to get 2 equations
that have opposite terms
­­Add the equations ­ eliminating one variable. Solve for it.
­­Substitute the value from step 2 into one of the equations and
solve for the other variable.
­­Write the solution as an ordered pair.
