Assignment:
1>L6.4 >pg. 357358, #224 (evens) Due Wednesday (1/30)
2. Lesson 64.notebook January 28, 2013
Lesson 6.4 WarmUp:
Use substitution to solve the system of equations in #12.
1) y = 3x 2
y = 2x 5
2) x = y 1
x + y = 1
Use elimination to solve the system of equations in #35.
3) 8x + 5y = 38
8x + 2y = 4
4) 5m 2p = 24
3m + 2p = 24
5) 6x 2y = 1
10x 2y = 5
3. Lesson 64.notebook January 28, 2013
Lesson 6.4:
*Sometimes we need to multiply one or both of the equations to be able
to use "elimination" for solving the system of equations.
Steps:
Multiply at least one equation by a number to get 2 equations
that have opposite terms
Add the equations eliminating one variable. Solve for it.
Substitute the value from step 2 into one of the equations and
solve for the other variable.
Write the solution as an ordered pair.
4. Lesson 64.notebook January 28, 2013
Lesson 6.4 examples:
Use elimination to solve the system of equations.
A) 5x + 6y = 8
2x 3y = 5
B) 6x 2y = 10
3x 7y = 19
5. Lesson 64.notebook January 28, 2013
C) 9x + y = 13
3x + 2y = 4
D) 4x + 2y = 8
3x + 3y = 9
