Projectile motion is the motion of an object thrown near the Earth's surface under the influence of gravity only. It has two independent motions - horizontal motion at a constant velocity and vertical motion with constant acceleration due to gravity. The trajectory of a projectile is a parabolic path. Equations can be derived for the time of flight, horizontal range, maximum height, and trajectory of a projectile based on the initial velocity and angle of projection. The range is maximum when the angle of projection is 45 degrees.
