This document discusses the challenges of Wi-Fi networks and managing devices on those networks. Traditional Wi-Fi architectures give control to individual devices, resulting in scaling issues, inconsistent reliability, and labor-intensive management. Next-generation 802.11ac Wi-Fi networks are emerging but bring new challenges around channel allocation. The document also outlines challenges IT departments face with supporting an increasing number of devices on networks through bring your own device (BYOD) policies and providing secure guest access. Identity management solutions are presented as a way to simplify guest access, automatically configure devices, and enforce IT policies while reducing reliance on help desks.
