Wimax is a wireless technology that provides broadband connectivity over long distances without requiring line of sight. It uses the IEEE 802.16 standard and can deliver internet access to homes and businesses in remote areas at speeds comparable to cable and DSL. Wimax has the potential to increase connectivity for rural areas and provide broadband access to locations more than 30 miles from the base station, offering mobility and speeds much faster than existing wireless technologies. It offers fixed and mobile broadband access to help drive economic growth through improved access to education, healthcare and entertainment.
