5. INTRODUCTION
A wireless local –area network uses radio waves
to connect devices such as laptops to the internet and to your
business network and its application . When you connect a
laptop to a wifi hotspot at a cafe, hotel, airport lounge or other
public place . You ‘re connecting to that business wireless
network.

6. WHAT IS WIMAX
WiMax stands for world wide interoperability for
microwave access.
WiMax was formed in April 2001 , in
articipation of the publication of the original 1EEE802.16
specifications.
WiMax refers to broadband wireless
network that are based on the 1EEE802.16 standard, which
ensures compatability and interoperability between
broadband wireless access equipment.
It is based on wireless MAN
Technology.

7. BENEFITS OF WIMAX

Faster than broadband service

Not having to lay cables reduces cost.
Easier to extend to suburban and rural.
BROAD COVERAGE :
Much wider coverage than wifi hotspots.

countries through various devices.

for last mile broadband access.

 Providing internet connectivity as part of a business continuity plan.

11. DISADVANTAGES OF WIMAX
• Spectral limitation
• Big delay
• Big power consumption
• Weather conditions like rain could cause interference
• If there are many users in one sector, then they will have lower speed.

12. CONCLUSION
With in five years we experts WiMax to be the dominant
technology for wireless networking by that time it wil be fully mobile,as
well as providing low-cost,fixed broad band access that will open up
regions where internet access has no far not been practical.
