- Indonesia has established a legal and institutional framework for disaster management including the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Disaster Management Law of 2007. - The framework aims to shift paradigms from disaster response to risk reduction and ensure coordinated implementation of disaster management through legislation, institutions, planning, budgeting and science/technology. - Key aspects include the establishment of BNPB, integration of disaster management into development plans through allocation of budgets, and formation of a national platform involving multi-stakeholders such as government, private sector, NGOs and international organizations.

3. Purpose of Disaster Management:
In addition to protecting the public from hazard and to
synchronize existing regulations, DM Law No. 24/2007
also serves the purpose to:
“ensure the implementation of planned, coordinated and
inclusive disaster management, taking into account
respects for local wisdom, building public-private
partnership, enhancement of spirit for mutual solidarity
and charity, as well as creating peace in community life,
nationhood and statehood”.
