I can’t imagine what my life would have been if I never met my best friend, Winney. She
encouraged me, and accompanied me during the dark period of my divorce, and helped me
change my life. It was 18 years ago when I was considering the divorce with my husband at the
time. My son was only 9 years old, and my mother had passed away a year before that time. I felt
that I was walking in the endless darkness with extreme pain in heart. I remember that was a
Sunday afternoon, while I sat at a table, Winney, who was my colleague, walked into the coffee
room and saw me. I invited her to sit down with me, and she asked why my face looked so pale and
sad. Then I cried and told her my things, feelings, and how much pain I was in and didn’t that I
didn’t know what I should do. She listened to me patiently, empathized with my feelings, comforted
me so well that I felt like my mom sat beside me. I have never forgotten what she said, “Move
forward whatever pain you feel, this is the darkness before dawn . Be brave and strong.“ Then I used
these words, her encouragement, and her friendly love to start over my life. Later, I also
accomplished my career goal by becoming a CPA in new city, and my life was heading towards
sunshine again. Since then, she has become my best friend. Whatever where I am, she always
comforts me, gives me the power words when I face some difficulties. Our friendship is almost two
decades old; indeed, right now she is not only my best friend but also my sister. I really appreciate
that she is in my life.
