Tuesday July 27, 2011 Southside ABE - ELL 4 Agenda and Goals
Goals for today: We will correct the mistakes in 2 sentences. We will do a partner activity by reading the article “The Best Medicine”. We will complete Unit 8 review on page 114. We will do a listening and pronunciation activity to practice the /s/ and /z/ sounds. We will write a story about a person who has changed their bad habits. We will interview 3 classmates about healthy habits.
Help! Fix the mistakes in these sentences: I am going to the pharmacy because I need to get a refill on my medicine. Do you have a prescription or can you buy your medicine over-the-counter?
What’s “The Best Medicine”? You will get an article called “The Best Medicine” that says: Pair A -OR- Pair B Find a partner that is the same letter as you: A or B. Read the article together Answer Questions for Pair A or Pair B together Then, find a new partner that is the opposite letter. (If I am Pair A, I will find a partner that has Pair B.) Share your answers to the questions with your new partner, and have your partner share his/her answers with you. Write your partner’s answers down on your paper.
Unit 8 Review Look at page 114 used to practice: http://www.englishgrammarsecrets.com/usedto/exercise1.swf
Listening and pronunciation activity: /s/ and /z/ Listen to the recording. When the recording tells you to, hold up either the letter “s” or the letter “z” to show what sound you hear. Fill out the handout about /s/ and /z/ sounds. Work with a partner to write a conversation.
Let’s Write A Story... Look on page 115. There are four pictures of a woman who has changed her bad habits. Work with your table to write a story about her - or someone like her - who used to have bad habits, but now has good habits. Each person will write one sentence in the story, then pass the paper to the next person. At the end, we will share our stories!
Interview! Interview 3 people in our class: What is a quick, healthy meal you like to eat or prepare? Do you think that most people eat well every day? Why or why not? Is it easy or difficult for most people to exercise every day? Why?
Spelling Practice! Quiz someone sitting by you about the spelling words for this week. Test on Thursday!
