Strokepad
Developed as a joint venture between UCLH and 6PM with
support from the North Central London Cardiovascular and
Stroke Network, StrokePad gives you:
• A comprehensive, real-time, point-of-care digital
clinical record specifically designed for stroke patients,
encompassing the entire management pathway from
admission to discharge.
• Highly optimised, digital tablet interface with ‘pen and
paper’ functionality, eliminating the need for the use of
parallel paper records throughout the care pathway.
• Fully automated processing of outcome data,
eliminating resource intensive duplicate data collection
for reporting and audit.
• Built-in data field management optimising the
collection of clinical and managerial data. Improved
depth of coding increases revenue to your department.
A solution which meets all your Stroke
assessment needs, developed with clinicians
for clinicians.
Stroke services are undergoing a transformation in the UK,
but to justify new investment they have to provide highly
detailed information about their services. Can you easily
provide the outcome measures demanded of you, are you
satisfied with the accuracy of the data you provide, and is
your stroke service managing that data well?
CareSolutions
StrokePad
Solution
StrokePad is a tablet-based product which is very
intuitive and easy to use. It was developed to enable the
care process of a stroke patient to be recorded quickly
and accurately from start to finish.
The Solution allows clinicians to enter information
onto a hand held wireless device at the bedside, whilst
they are making their clinical assessment. It follows
the ‘real-life’ clinical processes undertaken by highly
experienced clinical staff whilst recording each step of
the patient journey.
StrokePad automates reporting, allowing clinicians to
focus on patient care and to decide which is the best
course of treatment. Each phase of assessment is
recorded and time- stamped for ease of reporting.
StrokePad records and consolidates all aspects of the
treatment and captures auditable information needed
for improvement of the service and provide outcomes to
other bodies e.g. Trusts, Stroke Networks and SSNAP.
“With only one input necessary at the
bedside, the StrokePad effortlessly informs
our clinical record, populates the discharge
summary, provides real time data and keeps
us on top of targets minute by minute.”
Dr. Nick Losseff ,
Clinical Director,
UCLH Comprehensive Stroke Service.
Example of Discharge Report
Improves the efficiency of
clinical assessment, as the
clinician can see at a glance
which stage they have reached
along the patient journey.
		Information traditionally
recorded on paper can now be
entered electronically.
		Provides timed information of
the duration of the episode and
assists clinical staff in drug
administration.
		Desktop and tablet-based
allowing ease of use and instant
access to patient details.
		Multiple tablets can be used
simultaneously by different
healthcare professionals caring
for the same patient.
		Complete audit trail of all
activities undertaken.
		Eliminates the double entry
processing thus reducing the
risk of incorrect data entries.
		The tablets record the data
even when there is no network
access. When network access
is re-established then the data
will automatically synchronise.
		Accuracy of clinical data
ensures correct coding of
each patient ensuring that
clinical activity is appropriately
remunerated.
		Provides Trust-specific key
performance indicator (KPI)
data or SSNAP (Sentinel Stroke
National Audit Programme)
submissions i.e. true/real
information at a key stroke.
		Automatically generates a
discharge document for the
patient.
		All the information captured
on the device is available
in a report format (printed
or electronic) to add to the
patient notes when leaving the
department.
		Connects to the Trust’s PAS
system and HL7.
		Collects accurate time-
stamping of patients’ critical
care.
		Collates data to create a
reliable audit report required by
the NHS.
Key Features and Benefits
StrokePad digitally records each activity of the assessment enabling clinicians to give their undivided
attention to the patient. In models of stroke care in which patients are transferred to a new clinical team
early on in the patient pathway, the electronic record can be transferred to the receiving team, ensuring
accurate and safe handover of care from one clinical team to another.
• A speed-optimised record for thrombolysed patients by
acquiring all relevant information with minimal impact on
	 ‘door-to-needle’ time.
• A comprehensive clinical record incorporating each phase of
the stroke care pathway from admission to discharge whilst
the application gathers and collates the necessary clinical
and management data for the service.
• Patient’s time in the Stroke Unit, any administration, or
not, of thrombolytic drugs, the reason for the decision,
	 and associated comments.
• Automated generation of discharge documentation to
facilitate continuity of care if required.
The Solution Encompasses
“We wanted a system that would
provide a complete stroke pathway
record, be smart enough to
organise and report on targets, and
provide meaningful outputs to our
stakeholders - all without getting
in the way of direct patient care.
This didn’t exist so we built the
StrokePad.”
