The document discusses the 5Rs - repair, reuse, recycle, reduce, and recover - as strategies to minimize waste. Repair involves fixing broken items to reuse them. Reuse means using items for their original purpose or a new one, like donating old clothes. Recycle is processing waste materials into new products, like recycling paper, plastics, and metals. Reduce is lessening unnecessary material use by actions like bringing reusable bags and avoiding impulse purchases. Recover converts non-reusable waste into energy through incineration.
2. Repair- is fixing or restoring broken
items to be used again.
Here are some examples:
❑ sewing torn out shirts
❑ fixing broken doorknob
❑ replacing the stuck zipper
3. Reuse- use the material again,
or use for another purpose
Tips on how to reuse:
❑ donating old household item
like old clothes, toys and books
❑ cans and boards for school projects
4. Tips on how to reuse:
❑ scrap papers into note pad
❑ old containers into food storage
❑ old toothbrush into cleaners like
sewing machine parts,
stove burner and kitchen wares
5. Recycle- processing the waste materials to
make another or new product.
Some materials that could be recycled:
➢ paper, plastics, old carton, newspaper
➢ metals, ceramics, eggshells and many
more
6. Reduce- lessen the use of
unnecessary materials.
What are possible ways on how
you could practice reduce?
➢Bring your own utensils and bottles
➢Buy rechargeable materials/items.
7. What are possible ways on how
you could practice reduce?
➢ Prepare a list whenever you buy
to avoid impulse buying.
➢ Buy in bulk instead of small items.
➢ Bring reusable shopping bag when shopping.
8. Recover- using the waste product to
“recover’ energy
o after segregation , waste material that
cannot be reused or recycled are
incinerated to produce power and
heat.
