Activity No. 2. Interview at least 10 nursing students and ask them to answer the different
roles of community health nurse using a questionnaire-checklist. After you gather the data
tally them and rank them from highest to lowest. Interpret your results specifically the
highest and the lowest then back-up with literature. Please put your citations. Just fill up
your answers on table below.
Table 1. Role of Community Health Nurse
ROLES FREQUENCY RANK
Advocate 6 1
Health Educator/Trainer 3 2
Counselor 2 3
Teacher 2 4
Case Manager 1 5
Partner and collaborator 1 6
Health Planner/Programmer 1 7
Manager/Supervisor 1 8
Community Organizer 1 9
Case Finder 1 10
Recorder 1 11
Community Leader 1 12
Researcher 0 13
Epidemiologist 0 14
The table shows the role preferences of nursing students. A great frequency of
nursing students (6 or six) preferred to be an advocate. Followed by a great number of
students (3 or three) preferred to be a health educator/trainer. In addition, the students
also preferred to be a counselor and teacher as their roles with a frequency of (2 or two).
Some students (1 or one) want to be a case manager, partner and collaborator, health
planner, manager or supervisor, community organizer, case finder, recorder, and
community leader. Lastly, none from the nursing student (0 or zero) preferred to be a
researcher and epidemiologist. This implies that the most preferred roles of community
health nurse is advocate. On the other hand, the least preferred role is the researcher
and epidemiologist.
Based on the table, out of 10 nursing students, the role nursing advocate ranked
first with a frequency of 6. As I interviewed them, the reason for choosing this role is to
secure and defend the rights to equal and just quality of care to every patient. According
to the American Nurses Association (ANA), “Advocacy is a pillar of nursing. Nurses
instinctively advocate for their patients, in their workplaces, and in their communities.
Similarly, according to Davoodvand F. (2016). Nurses chose to be an advocate to defend
patient’s rights and universal rights, protecting the interests of the patient, contributing to
decision-making and supporting the patient’s decision.
The table shows that the role researcher and epidemiologist is the Least preferred
roles, none of respondents chose these roles. According to Jennifer F. (2021) Nurses do
not usually engage into this field because in order to become an epidemiologist, the nurse
will first need to have earned a bachelor's degree and master’s degree in a related field
of study. As an epidemiologist, the nurse will be coming in contact with all different types
of contagious diseases. In addition, according to Nicole G. (2021) Nurses who are
pursuing research find work less fulfilling by not directly interacting with patients. Salaries
are typically lower than clinical nurse practitioner salaries.

  • 6. The table shows the role preferences of nursing students. A great frequency of nursing students (6 or six) preferred to be an advocate. Followed by a great number of students (3 or three) preferred to be a health educator/trainer. In addition, the students also preferred to be a counselor and teacher as their roles with a frequency of (2 or two). Some students (1 or one) want to be a case manager, partner and collaborator, health planner, manager or supervisor, community organizer, case finder, recorder, and community leader. Lastly, none from the nursing student (0 or zero) preferred to be a researcher and epidemiologist. This implies that the most preferred roles of community health nurse is advocate. On the other hand, the least preferred role is the researcher and epidemiologist. Based on the table, out of 10 nursing students, the role nursing advocate ranked first with a frequency of 6. As I interviewed them, the reason for choosing this role is to secure and defend the rights to equal and just quality of care to every patient. According to the American Nurses Association (ANA), “Advocacy is a pillar of nursing. Nurses instinctively advocate for their patients, in their workplaces, and in their communities. Similarly, according to Davoodvand F. (2016). Nurses chose to be an advocate to defend patient’s rights and universal rights, protecting the interests of the patient, contributing to decision-making and supporting the patient’s decision. The table shows that the role researcher and epidemiologist is the Least preferred roles, none of respondents chose these roles. According to Jennifer F. (2021) Nurses do not usually engage into this field because in order to become an epidemiologist, the nurse will first need to have earned a bachelor's degree and master’s degree in a related field of study. As an epidemiologist, the nurse will be coming in contact with all different types of contagious diseases. In addition, according to Nicole G. (2021) Nurses who are pursuing research find work less fulfilling by not directly interacting with patients. Salaries are typically lower than clinical nurse practitioner salaries.
