PAGEREF _Toc258428959 4
INTRODUCTION.
Human beings have lived from the beginning of times in contact with nature but nowadays we spend more time in town then in the countryside.
It’s important to be aware of the different activities that you can carry out in contact with nature.
We have to study physical activity in relation with the environment. In older times, environment was a lifestyle, nowadays, for people from cities, environment is a secondary concern, the most important aspect is not the integration with it but the resource exploitation.
Last century, school trips started to be organized in Switzerland.
In the 1870s and 1880s, this custom was spread throughout Europe.
In Spain, the first activities were organized in Santander.
In 1908 in England, the most important movement was born, the ‘boys scouts’.
HIKING AND TREKKING
Hiking is to move from one place to another using your feet as the only ‘means of transport’. Any physical activity in the open air requires movements and these movements are made on foot.
Hiking is an aerobic activity, you burn more calories walking than running. Its benefits are uncountable:
It improves your heart resistance.
It relaxes the nerve system.
It burns calories.
Trekking is an increasingly popular activity. We can walk in the countryside to enjoy the landscape, the ground, the climate and also the trees, plants and animals. These are the ecological paths.
HOW TO PREPARE THE RUCKSACK
-43243515240You’ll need a rucksack to carry all your material. The amount of material depends on if you’re camping or not. Things you should do:
Keep your rucksack closed with no tools hanging outside.
The part next to your back must be soft. Be careful with hard objects inside, you can be hurt.
Heavier objects must be in the part of the rucksack closer to your body.
More fragile objects like food, cameras must go in the upper part.
Keep the documentation in a plastic bag.
.
2.2. WHICH ARE THE MOST APPROPRIATE SHOES?
Shoes must be comfortable and must be an insulator.
Don’t wear new boots for hiking.
Wear two pairs of socks.
2.3. ADVICE TO CARRY OUT HIKING.
Get information about the relief, the ground, the climate, temperatures, wildlife and the type of vegetation.
Make sure there is drinking water on the way. Carry it with you if there isn’t.
Choose appropriate clothes, don’t take either too many or too few clothes.
Never walk alone, you can get lost or hurt, moreover, it’s funnier and safer to go with somebody. The slowest person must go first.
Walk at a uniform speed, try not to go too fast at the beginning.
Stop every now and then, you should make a stop of 5 or 10 min every 45 min. You can drink some water (not much) and eat some nuts or chocolate to get energy.
Respect the zones, don’t leave paths and you won’t damage nature. Don’t pull branches from trees or bushes. Don’t shout.
Don’t throw rubbish, keep it with you till you find the appropriate container.
