In this essay prompt, the student is asked to analyze how aging women are represented in Tell Me A Riddle, "The Moths," and/or "The Ruins" by identifying how society views old women and the characteristics, concerns, struggles, and advantages of being an old woman in these works. The student must also discuss how the women deal with stereotypes, patriarchy, and their intersectional identities as they age, and how the outside world and their own families treat them. In doing so, the student should refer to points made in the essay "On Being An Aging Woman" and other criticism about the representation of old women in literature.
