This document provides an overview of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a cloud computing service that allows users to launch server instances in Amazon's data centers. EC2 provides templates called Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) that contain pre-configured software. Users can launch instances of AMIs to replicate configurations across multiple servers. EC2 instances can be deployed and terminated on demand, while physical servers require regular maintenance. EC2 offers scalable, on-demand resources that users pay for based on usage, unlike physical servers which incur costs whether used or not. The document also briefly discusses other Amazon cloud services like S3, DynamoDB, and Elastic Beanstalk.
Cloud storage is one of the primary service offered by almost all the leading cloud service providers. This presentation looks into the options of Cloud storage in Azure, AWS and Google Cloud platform.

This document discusses using AWS for storage and archive solutions. It begins by outlining the business and technical benefits AWS can provide, such as reducing costs, reducing on-premise infrastructure needs, changing processes, and removing aging technologies. It then covers fundamental AWS storage services like EBS, S3, and Glacier. Examples of how these services can be used for different storage and archive use cases like backups, data distribution, databases, and long-term archives are provided. Finally, it discusses getting data into AWS and using database services like RDS and DynamoDB.
Amazon provides several cloud storage options on AWS including S3 for object storage, EFS for file storage accessible by multiple EC2 instances, and EBS for block storage attached to a single EC2 instance. S3 is highly durable, available globally at low cost but doesn't provide file system semantics. EFS delivers file system access across instances but has higher latency and cost than EBS, which provides low latency storage for a single instance via block-level access. Glacier is very low cost archival storage for infrequently accessed data.

TwinStrata CloudArray - Disaster Recovery as a Serviceinside-BigData.com
In this slidecast, Nicos Vekiarides from TwinStrata presents: TwinStrata CloudArray 4.5 with DRaaS.
Today, we use a combination of TwinStrata, cloud storage and an always-on cloud compute environment to drive our disaster recovery strategy,” said Vernon Jackson, senior systems engineer, SEPA Laboratories. “While it works well, it's pretty costly to keep secondary infrastructure up and running in the cloud just so we can run DR tests once a quarter. With this new CloudArray DRaaS offering, we can eliminate eight months worth of cloud compute costs, while still maintaining a quarterly DR test schedule. That's a huge savings.”

Everyone understands disk has become the primary target for backups in the last several years. It’s also safe to say that the main type of disk storage used as a target for backups would be a purpose-built backup appliance that presents itself to the backup application as an NFS or SMB server and then deduplicates any backups stored on it.
But what about object storage? Object storage vendors tout that their systems are less expensive to buy and less expensive to operate than traditional disk arrays and NAS appliances. So, does it make sense to use them for backups? How much is deduplication a factor and is deduplication even available with object storage? What else can object storage bring to the table that traditional disk backup appliances can’t?

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
