Outcome(s)
We were able to reduce costs in excess of $1.75M from the cost reduction
projects stated above and realized additional cost savings through other cost
reduction projects that were done later. The other projects resulted in savings of
more than $10.4M for the next two years. ATS created effective processes that
increased labor efficiency, and ATS reduced risk and compliance issues through
better audit functions and accountability. ATS simplified the Standard Operating
Procedures for the day-to-day operations staff, which enabled them to implement
requirements and exceed client expectations, resulting in increasing productivity.
We started in a company culture that was fear based. After meeting with
employees to gather information on what could be changed with the culture,
we created a management report without employees being attributable to the
comments. We discussed the results with executive management and they
realized something needed to be done.
Executive management supported the need for action and changes began to
take shape to improve the company culture. From the change management,
the culture became an open platform of ideas, willingness, and embrace for
excellence in best value, new business, sales growth, empowerment of each
location through centralized control.
ATS implemented these corporate culture changes and quantified results to
ensure they were received by the employees as a positive change. We changed
processes for the bidding of new business, hiring of capable and experienced
writers, and recruited new staff for preparation of new contracts.
ATS helped the company improve its overall reputation internally and externally
to the marketplace. As a result, the organization was able to increase revenues of
more than $55 Million over a five year period.

The CFO realized the need for cost savings, compliance, better financial and procurement practice, and did not want to downsize some of the staff. He decided to do research and from people he knew in upper management, our name was provided.
Outcome(s)
The savings with ETR was more than $1 M annually. Our cost saving projects enabled
ETR to save staff jobs that were identified for a reduction in force or layoff!
Having worked with ETR since 2008, we are excited about other projects that will
help ETR in their cost reduction and growth. The overall cost reduction savings
will be even more due to compliance, efficiencies, and a centralized procurement
department instituted. We were able to increase effectiveness through improved
communications, instituting best practices, and centralizing procurement. We
provided a platform for proper vendor management and evaluation. ATS instituted
many new techniques that impacted the resource allocations within the company.
We implemented green sustainability methods. We trained the staff, which
empowered them to be more effective with results.
Outcome(s)
We continue to work with the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles with any needs they
have, as they have been a client for several years.
We were able to reduce costs by more than $6 Million over a 9 month period
(multiple year awarded contracts), reduce costs through additional cost reduction
studies, increase effectiveness, improve communications, activate best practice,
centralize procurement, provide a platform for proper vendor management
and evaluation, institute many new techniques into the organization for greater
resource effectiveness, bring about finance and green sustainability, train and
empower staff to be more effective with results, renew a $100M contract with the
Federal Government, and much more!
Most importantly, both the YWCA and ATS value people as the most important
ASSET!
Outcome(s)
Over a one year period, the company realized savings in excess of $32M for hard cost, soft cost, cost avoidance, human capital labor, all with sustainable measures.
Each year our client initiated the Request for Proposal, best practice, and sustainable
measures implemented within a proactive and communicative centralized
procurement department.
The ATS approach, as conducted for all clients, resulted in the customized solutions
to the company’s environment, challenges, and needs. The end result not
only stopped after we completed all of these projects, but continued through the
education ATS brought, turnkey and automated software systems, data intelligence
for vendor sourcing, and up to licenses, contracts, and agreements.
The most significant impact to this company was the teamwork that started occurring
as a result of ATS recommendations being implemented within the company.
From the involvement, came ideas, which resulted in applied actions and
solutions, and actual ownership. This entire change management process helped
the teams in this company to sustain the savings, efficiencies, compliance, vendor
management and evaluation, continued best practice and SOPs changes as the
company continued to excel in growth, more than doubling in revenues, additions
of new enterprises, and the train the trainer model.
The entire consequences, such as, loss in life and finances, a tarnished reputation,
staff turnover of committed professionals, safety incidences, fines, and so many
other areas could have been avoided if best practice in each area, along with communications
and accountability, were in place.
How important is best practice and risk management to you and your organization?
Is it worth it to cut corners?
Is it better to be proactive instead of reactive?

Step 5 is the negotiation and supplier selection. The team sends out the RFP, negotiates with suppliers, and selects Fed Ex. supplier(s). The Center Led Sourcing process includes documented business cases that are Step 6 Once the team has made the selection, they need to do the integration. This is done by applying the Ariba toolset scrutinized by Stakeholders, Legal, and Finance and approved by the FedEx with the supplier, and identifying integration conflicts to be solved to make the contract workable. Corporation Sourcing Council Step 7 Benchmark the supply market - on-going monitoring of the supplier(s) through the FedEx Supplier Scorecard system. Fed Ex. ILLUSTRATIVE The sourcing process applies a rigorous, proven methodology to categories selected during an opportunity diagnostic Two aspects of how this is done are important: first, a central sourcing group leads company-by-company specific sourcing initiatives. This is a team of sourcing analysts who lead these sourcing initiatives, and once they get through the process - this hands off from the sourcing advisor to a supply chain associate. These associates are spend-category associated (e.g. aircraft components, IT contracts, etc.) Their role is to take the arrangement with the supplier and ensure that it is implemented and see that it goes on within that marketplace. They are responsible for completing the scorecard with the supplier to ensure that it is completed thoroughly and accurately. This handoff occurs in Step 6 during integration. Smart Process Design: Continuous Improvement to Leverage the Right Technology...Daniel W. Linna Jr.
Corporate Legal Operations Institute, May 2017
A technology-first approach can distract us from asking the right questions and solving the right problems. We must start with processes. By designing smart processes, we can increase the efficiency and quality of legal service delivery, generate actionable data, and pave the way for future continuous improvement. We will:
• Introduce smart processes for gathering data and improving efficiency, quality, and substantive outcomes;
• Use maps as knowledge production and management tools that can also be used for communication and training; and
• Discuss how cross-functional alignment and communication between the legal ops team, in-house counsel, and the other departments of the business can be furthered with this approach.

Spend and Inventory Reduced
Spend was reduced by more than 25% and carrying inventory by more than 10%.
This was done through Mr. Urillo’s recommendations of specific size and gauge
elimination while proactively managing order timing to maximize vendors manufacturing
efficiencies. This also helped the vendors by reducing their need for
change overs on their equipment to accommodate the numerous sizes and gauge
changes. There was no impact in the field as the gauge changes in some instances
were less than 0.001”. The largest gauge change recommendation was 0.003”, and
the largest size change was 0.5”.
The newspapers running a thinner or smaller product had no impact on delivery
or delivery complaints. Also, the system was changed for monitoring usage
and ordering which allowed for larger order quantities in agreed upon sizes and
gauges which gave us the maximum impact to savings. This was a major change in
the company as each newspaper became a part of the aggregated spend for the
benefit of the entire company.
The Purchase Order entry in the ERP system was changed to using Pcards for the
purchases, which provided an extra return at the end of the year of 1.5%. This
helped increase controls on the spending by issuing the cards on a product specific
basis. This kept the cards from being used on other commodities and kept the
reporting on the bags very controlled and much easier to analyze.

Summary
Above The Standard Procurement Group (ATS) staff has over twenty years of
experience in Pharmaceutical Clinical Development. This experience spans clinical
trial phases, functions, therapeutic areas and external organizations. Our staff has
effectively managed complex, global projects and has worked with executives and
world-renowned researchers in industry and academia.
Outcome(s)
ATS was able to reduce costs by $22.75M from the above cost categories, while
increasing effectiveness through improved communications, implementing best
practices throughout the organization for these projects. By working with each
location, vendors, and client staff we helped all understand their vital role in the
most important part of their business – their core competencies and their customers.
We conducted stakeholder meetings to improve all processes, procedures,
ideas, and best practice.
Outcome(s)
Handtech more than tripled their revenue after implementing all of the ATS
recommendations in less than two years. We conducted focus groups within
Handtech, in different locations around the U.S. As a result, there was a very large
productive team that developed quickly into hundreds of sales people. We took
the processes of the highly productive team and rolled this out to the entire U.S.
The revenue increased with new clients and upselling to existing clients. The new
training modules helped those in the field to connect better with clients. Each
team shared different ideas and promoted revenue generation techniques resulting
in a greater team environment and productive setting. The sales people were
speaking the same language of the Handtech brand messaging.

The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.

Case Study - Del-Jen (A Fluor Company)September 17, 2012
D
el-Jen, Inc. came about through referral. They called us and on
the call we spoke about what their need was, what we offer
through our services, and addressed our expertise in CPSR and
Audit.
Additional Project(s) Conducted
From the initial project conducted, Above the Standard Procurement Group®
(ATS) went onto conduct many other projects, such as:
„„ Procurement and finance training (some of the topics were sourcing, best
practice, CPSR, compliance, vendor management, Federal Acquisition Regula-
tion (FAR), Standard Operating Procedures, centralized purchasing, self-audit,
budget, finance and procurement separation, and much more);
„„ Cost reduction processes and methodologies were taught so that they could
conduct these practices;
„„ Revision of their Department of Labor Standard Operating Procedures (SOP),
supporting documents, attachments, templates, form, and contracts that go
along with the SOP;
„„ Revision of the DoD Purchasing Manual encompassing more than 160 pages;
and
„„ Agreement to train, audit, provide further contract services, and other areas
involving procurement, audit, and services.
Outcome(s)
We continue to work with Del-Jen (Fluor Company) with any needs they have, as
they have been a client for several years.
We were able to help multiple procurement, finance, and management staff
from around the U.S. understand best practice, procurement cost reduction,
audit, sourcing, vendor management, contracts, Request for Proposal processes,
compliance, regulation, Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) methodologies and
requirements, CPSR requirements, requisition efficiency, Scopes of Work, and
much more in the procurement and financial space.
They were able to improve processes, SOPs, understanding, documentation, and
apply sound procurement principles so that they are viewed as a first class DOL
Federal Contractor, as well as reduce costs in the amount of millions of dollars
without jeopardizing quality.

Case Study - Del-Jen (A Fluor Company)September 17, 2012
As a result of our actions, Del-Jen was able to be more effective in time
management. They were able to apply and integrate the increased compliance
and regulation without increasing or hiring additional Full-Time Equivalents
(FTE’s). This allowed them to continue doing business with the Federal
Government that began implementing budget cuts to Del Jen’s programs. We
helped them become more effective and efficient at their job, so that they freed
up more time, to conduct all of the extra requirements being stipulated by
Washington D.C. lawmakers.
Because of their improved compliance, rating with the U.S. Department of Labor,
and increased effectiveness, they were able to maintain their contracts and have
the opportunity to use this positioning while bidding on new contracts for new
business.
What does Del-Jen have to say about us?
We have known Ted Landgraf / Above the Standard Procurement Group and
have had a great relationship with them since 2007. In July, 2011, procurement
training was provided to us by them for several of our Job Corps senior staff and
purchasing agents. The feedback from our staff is that it was one of the best and
most practical training’s they have ever attended. There is no doubt that anyone
who works with Above the Standard Procurement Group will benefit like we
have, because they went above and beyond. They care about long-term working
relationships and understand DOL requirements and the needs of the program.
