Introduction
Southern Texas encompasses different groups of people whose behavior, gender identity, and gender expression varies depending on cultural identity and norms. About a quarter of individuals in United States have a history or are experiencing a mental disorder with approximately 6% of the population having critical mental illness. These mental problems typically affect the general well-being of an individual. For instance, patients living with severe mental disorders are more likely to die in average of twenty-six years earlier than the average life expectanc ...

This document provides feedback on a dissertation prospectus from the dissertation chair, Robert Astur. Some key points made in the feedback include:
1) The prospectus does not clearly define what gap in research the study aims to address, as one cited study found no impact of patient-centered medical homes on expenditures or care.
2) More scientific citations are needed to support statements, rather than just websites.
3) Numerous grammatical and formatting errors need to be corrected before further review.
The chair looks forward to discussing these issues further in their upcoming Zoom meeting and working with the student to strengthen the prospectus.

Grant Proposal-Assessing the role of stigma towards mental health patients in help seeking
Study problem
There are several studies that have shown that stigmatization towards mental health patients have been present throughout history and even despite the evolution in modern medicine and advanced treatment. For example, Verhaeghe et al., (2014), captures in a publication in reference to a study that he conducted that stigmatization towards mental health patients has been there even as early is in the 18th Century. People were hesitant to interact with people termed or perceived to have mental health conditions.
Stigmatization has resulted from the belief that those with mental problem are aggressive and dangerous creating a social distance (Szeto et al., 2017). Also, mental health-related stigma has become of major concern as it creates crucial barriers to access treatment and quality care since it not only influences the behaviour of the patients but also the attitude of the providers hence impacting help-seeking. Timmermann, Uhrenfeldt and Birkelund (2014), have identified stigma as a barrier that is of significance to care or help seeking while the extent to which it still remains a barrier have not been reviewed deeply. Therefore, this study will assess the role contributed by stigma in help seeking in depth. 1. Purpose
The intention of the research study is to review the association between stigma, mental illness and help seeking in order to formulate ways in which the stigma that is around mental health is done away with to enable as many people suffering from mental health complications to seek medical help.2. Background
Mental health is crucial in every stage of life. It is defined as the state of psychological well-being whereby the individual realizes a satisfactory integration instinctual drive acceptable to both oneself and his or her social setting (Ritchie & Roser, 2018). The status of mental health influences physical health, relationships, and most importantly day-to-day life. Mental health problems arise when there is a ...

A. Basu, Rehkopf, Siddiqi, Glymour, & Kawachi (2016). According to the authors, there is a gap here in the changes being experienced in social policies in recent years. It has created a gap among women with low income in South Texas. Accordingly, the authors used the determination of the differences in income to understand the relationships between health outcomes and welfare reforms as it impacts the less privileged women in comparison to the most affected women.
B. Ly, A. (2019). This study focused on the factors that influence the utilization of mental health among Vietnamese Americans and the barriers to seeking help in Texas. The study had 12 participants including providers and community leaders who were familiar with the target population. The findings of the study indicated that there is a gap here in cultural acceptance of mental health treatment. Hence the need to culturally specify mental health intervention to improve mental health utilization in the community. However, the study was limited by the small sample size; therefore, the findings cannot be generalized. Further studies should include more cultural groups to validate the findings of this research.

Semi structure interviews were used to collect information from 12 pacific islanders. Trained community leaders recruited eligible candidates for the study. The study was limited by the small sample size. Five themes arose from the study. There is a gap here in regard to cost of healthcare, mental health stigma and language and culture barriers, which were the themes that emerged concerning barriers affecting the utilization of mental health services. The researchers indicated the need for future studies to include a larger sample size to enable generalization of the findings.

Introduction
Hester (2017) noted that there is a huge gap between patients experiencing mental health illnesses and individuals who access treatment in the United States. As a result, there is the need to identify the factors that influence individuals to seek or not to utilize or not to utilize mental health services. Kohn et al., (2018) expressed the need for more studies to establish why people suffering from mental illnesses avoid getting treatments. Platt, Wolf & Scheitle, (2018) suggested that more studies need to be conducted to determine why individuals decide to utilize or reject mental health services. This study aims to evaluate the factors influencing an individuals' decision to utilize or reject mental health services in South Texas.
Background of the Problem
Sampogna et al., (2017), found that mental health is one of the major public health concerns in the United States. However, there is a considerable gap in research as to why people utilize or reject the treatment of mental health. According to Stanley, Hom & Joiner, (2018) there are numerous factors that influence people to utilize mental health services. Additionally, Irteja et al., (2020), indicated the need for more studies to be conducted to establish the factors that influence people to seek mental health services.
This problem has a long history In the United States dating back to when mental health services were established in the country (Calear et al., 2017). A lot has been done over the years to encourage individuals to utilize mental health services. Most notable, mental health America was established in 1909n to help address major mental health issues at the time including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and Dementia (Chang & Biegel, 2018). Historically, mental health was described as mental hygiene, a term used since 1843. At the time research indicated that mental hygiene would work best through religion, culture, and education (Chang & Biegel, 2018).
Theoretical Foundations/Conceptual Framework and Review of the Literature/Themes
Theoretical literature
Social cognitive theory is used to address the gap identified in this research. According to Kohn et al., (2018), social cognitive theory can be applied to encourage people experiencing mental health problems to utilize mental health services. This theory describes how individuals believes and the environment influence people’s behaviors. The theory holds that people’s believes affect how people behave. The theory suggests that people need to have the skills to be able to perform some behaviors. Regarding utilization or rejection of mental health services, behavioral capability can help people to chang.

A. De Luca, Blosnich, Hentschel, King, & Amen (2016). The authors indicate that mental health has emerged as one of the critical areas of focus in recent times, and for a long time, it had been sidelined. However, with the realization that most health conditions are related in one way or another to a mental disorder, this area is now been studied extensively, and more attention has been given to patients.
B. Mental health professionals point to insufficient mental healthcare resources in the United States as one of the major factors contributing to the rising suicide rate in the country. Nevertheless, these professionals noted that emergency providers paly major role at forefront of the problem and may also play significant role in its prevention. The experts reiterated the necessity for providers to possess the skills required for managing patients at lower suicide risk levels, especially in settings in which such patients do not enough access to behavioral healthcare providers and that the providers need to be accustomed to suicide risk, especially when there are widely publicized high-profile instances of suicide.

C. According to Kohn, et. al, (2018), emphasize the gap in mental health treatment in the American Region when examined through the prevalence of mental health disorders, use of mental health services, and the global burden of disease. Statistical data from community-based surveys of mental disorders in the various countries in America including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, and the United States etc. were utilized. The World Mental Health Survey published data were used in estimating professional the treatment gap. For Canada, Chile, and Guatemala, the treatment gap was calculated from data files. The mean, median, and weighted treatment gap, and the 12-month prevalence by severity and category of mental disorder were estimated for the general adult, child-adolescent, and indigenous populations. Disability-adjusted Life Years and Years Lived with Disability were calculated from the Global Burden of Disease study. Mental and substance use disorders accounted for 10.5% of the global burden of disease in the Americas (Kohn, Ali, Puac-Polanco, Figueroa, López-Soto, Morgan, & Vicente, 2018).

Mental health problems arise when there is a disruption in mental well-being.
The risk factors to mental health problems are not limited and therefore everyone is entitled to the problem irrespective of gender, economic status, and ethnic group. For example, data shows that in America one out of five individuals experience mental health problems annually; with mental disorders being recognized as the leading cause of disability not only in the United States but also globally (Ritchie & Roser, 2018). Mental health disorders are seen to be complex and of many forms such as anxiety, mood, and schizophren.

The Evaluative Criteria
The process of analyzing a healthcare plan to see if it meets its goals takes some time. Because it promotes an evidence-based approach, assessment is crucial in practice consignment. Evaluation can be used to assess the effectiveness of the research. It helps determine what changes could be recommended to improve service delivery and the study's persuasiveness. An impact evaluation analyzes the intervention's direct and indirect, positive and negative, planned and unplanned consequences. If an evaluation fails to deliver fresh recognition regularly, it may result in inaccurate results and conclusions. A healthcare practitioner can utilize the indicators or variables to evaluate programs and determine whether they are legal or not (Dash et al., 2019). The variables are also used to assess if the mediation is on track to meet its objectives and obligations. Participation rates, prevalence, and individual behaviors are among the measures to be addressed.
Individual behaviors are actions taken by individuals to improve their health. People have been denied the assistance and resources they seek because of ethics and plans. In addition, different people have varied perspectives about pressure ulcers treatment. Relevance refers to how the study may contribute to a worthwhile cause (Li et al., 2019). Quality variables give statistics on the precariously rising service consignment while also attempting to provide information on the part of the care that may be changed. The participation rate refers to the total number of people participating in the study.
On the other hand, individuals may be unable to engage in the study due to a lack of cultural knowledge and ineffective consent processes. The overall number of persons in a population who have a health disease at a given time is referred to as prevalence (Li et al., 2019). Although prevalence shows the rate at which new facts arrive, it aids in determining the suitable, complete outcome-positive prestige of people.
Research Approaches
The word "research approaches" refers to techniques and procedures to draw general conclusions concerning data collection, analysis, and explanation methods. In my research, I'll employ both quantitative and qualitative methods. A qualitative research technique will reveal deterrents and hindrances to practicing change by rationalizing the reasons behind specific demeanors (Li et al., 2019). Qualitative research will collect and evaluate non-numerical data to comprehend perspectives or opinions. It will also be utilized to learn everything there is to know about a subject or to develop new research ideologies.
The quantitative method focuses on goal data and statistical or numerical analysis of data collected through a questionnaire. In the healthcare field, quantitative research may develop and execute new or enhanced work meas ...
Key Stakeholders in Public Health Issue.docx4934bk
Key stakeholders in a public health issue include those affected by the issue as well as those who can influence or make decisions related to the issue. It is important to identify stakeholders to understand their interests and perspectives which informs policy analysis. Primary care physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers have an interest in public health issues that impact patient care. Government agencies also have an interest as they are responsible for funding programs and creating regulations and policies. Identifying stakeholders is crucial for conducting a thorough policy analysis.

Overall Comments:
Thank you for this revision. Unfortunately the requirements are still not being met because of not following the grading rubric completely for all required items. I hope you can see the comments on your paper and can use them and follow the rubric for revising this paper if you choose to do so.
1. Introduction
2. Evaluation of the outcomes of the PHII - not ones that were and were not met - all outcomes including missing information.
3. Using evidence-based research how can you improve on the outcomes.
4. Identifying another PHII you were to develop approaches to personalizing patient care from the other PHII.
5. You were to provide research to validate information about personalizing patient care including a successful PHII. Then you were to identify knowledge gaps from the research you used.
6. In this section you were to identify a framework, which contains concepts, which would have been used to evaluate the outcomes of the PHII. You were to acknowledge the limitations of this proposal.
7. see paper for APA formatting issues, etc.
This is a much better paper, but the main thing is to identify a successful PHII. For example others have used Triple Aim but there are many others. If you have questions please let me know.
Patient Centered Care Report
Introduction
Population health improvement initiative is meant to bring some improvement in a certain health issue in the community (Hack et al., 2017). The initiative must have some outcomes at the end of the improvement process. These are the set goals or achievements that the initiative wishes to achieve at the end of the process. In the case at hand, the expected achievements of the population health improvement plan for elderly people with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) include; improvement in moods, memory, and muscle control. Most elderly people with TBI and PTSD have frequent cases of loss of memory. They tend to forget things easily (Winter et al., 2016). In addition, they also have issues with their moods. Their muscle control is also very low.
The Outcomes
Out of the above outcomesWhat outcomes? You have not identified any outcomes yet, but you stated - "Out of the above outcomes..." This is very confusing that the initiative wished to achieve, the achievements that were made are going to be focused in this section. The first one is improvement in memory. The initiative managed to improve the memory of the participants using various interventions. Exercise was the most effective treatment (Duzel, van Praag, & Sendtner, 2016). About four hundred people agreed to participate in the exercise therapy. This was about half the number of the total participants. They followed the Center incorrect name - Cente ...

Week 8 Sample Section Example
Written by Jennifer Oddy, Entitled: Distress And Coping of Mothers of Children With Muscular Dystrophy
Sampling Method, Sample, and Setting
Sampling method. The participants will be recruited by criterion purposive sampling by their doctors/nurses at the Muscular Dystrophy Association clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Sample. Inclusion criteria are the following: (1) You are 21 years of age or greater; (2) are the mother of a child with muscular dystrophy; (3) your child is aged between 4 and 17 and was 10 years or younger at their first physical assessment by a primary care provider; (4) you provide roughly 75% or more of the home care for the child.
People will not be eligible for this study if they: (1) have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or have a physical addiction to drugs or alcohol); (2) if the child is currently residing in a long-term care facility.
The sample size will ideally be about 10 participants. Phenomenological studies tend to rely on very small samples, since there is one guiding principle for selecting the sample: all participants must have experienced the phenomenon and must be able to articulate what it is like to have lived the experience (Polit & Beck, 2012). Data will be collected until saturation is accomplished.
Setting. The proposed setting for this study is at the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital located at 300 Longwood Ave, Boston, MA. There are two directors at the clinic, an orthopedic, and a pediatric neurologist. The team members include a social worker, physical therapist, and a genetic counselor. The number of patients at the clinic cannot be disclosed, however, Boston Children’s Hospital is considered an elite clinic and is included in the MDA network that supports clinical trials and research. The hospital offers the highest level of diagnostic and treatment services, with neurologists and other specialists being very experienced in treating children with muscular dystrophy.
Informed consent and ethical considerations
Before enrolling participants in this study, an informed consent must be signed and approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB, Appendix A). This will be obtained from the Muscular Dystrophy Association clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital, as well as from Regis College. An application and proposal will be sent to the IRB, requesting approval for this study. Since there is minimal risk to subjects, an expedited review will be requested (Polit & Beck, 2012). There is a risk that the participant may have feelings of discomfort while discussing the experiences of caring for a child with muscular dystrophy. This will be minimized by the researcher with empathy and compassion. If the participant would like counseling, a call will be made to their primary care provider.
There are no foreseen ethical issues involved in this research study. The interviews will be ta ...
Can China's new mental health law substantially reduce the burden of illness ...BinhThang
This document discusses China's new mental health law and its potential impact on reducing the burden of mental illness in China. Some key points:
- Mental disorders account for a large portion of disability and illness in China. The new law aims to expand access to mental health services.
- However, achieving this goal faces challenges like lack of rural health providers and stigma around mental illness. Simply increasing services may not help if people refuse to seek care.
- The law prioritizes prevention but proposed interventions like education lack evidence that they prevent mental illness. More research is needed to evaluate prevention strategies.
- The law does not clearly address alcohol use disorders despite alcohol being a major health risk factor in China. Overall

This document provides a framework for improving collaboration between primary care and mental health services globally. It takes a three-step approach:
1. Identifying mental health services that can be delivered in primary care settings by primary care providers, with or without support from mental health professionals.
2. Outlining ways that effective collaboration can enhance primary mental health care, such as integrating mental health services within primary care settings or coordinating care when services are separate.
3. Examining system changes needed to support new roles and activities, and how collaboration can help address challenges facing all mental health systems.

Executive summary
The purpose of this research is to solve the problems international students have with health insurance or healthcare in the United States. This portfolio is comprised of four separate papers that examined all of the various strategies and approaches that can be adopted by foreign students to select an appropriate health insurance policy. The paper covers all of these approaches in great detail, also providing (a) recommendations and strategic planning techniques, which should be adopted by the students in order to assess the value of the health insurance policy they are planning to purchase (MSA 603), (b) the ways different ethnic groups perceive health insurance or quality healthcare, while evaluating and hypothesizing the way cultural variables interact in shaping the individual’s perception within an organization and society (MSA604), (c) strategies for effective communication most important in helping patients and doctors communicate (MSA601), and (d) the evaluation model in financial performance in healthcare or in hospitals (MSA602). In each of the papers, the researchers used strategic planning projects to help improve the operations and services offered by health insurance and healthcare systems. Regardless of the conclusions found through this research, more follow-up studies should be conducted that consider the continued development and corresponding effectiveness.

Abstract
Case studies which are done in the field of medicine work towards improving the health of the population. There are some of the parts contained in case studies which are abstract, results, limitations of results, conclusions, and applications. The common statistical methods used in research are descriptive numerical and qualitative thematic analyses. The results of the studies show that equal participation of individuals in the health sector will help boost public health. Limitations of results are that although some strategies may work towards improving health sector, not all of them are effective.
Public health is an important sector in any country for it directly affects the economy of the nation. There need to be certain ways which should be employed with the aim of supporting and improving public health. In this paper, I am going to examine 4 contemporary peer-reviewed articles which employ quantitative or mixed-methods concerning ways on how to improve the health of the public. The interest of the paper is to aid in achieving the best impact in public health sector via using programs which will improve health outcomes drastically. Enhancement of public health will in return help to improve the well-being of populations across the world. Public health awareness on how to avoid unhealthy lifestyles should be created.
In the articles, samples and populations used were appropriate for it showed the real representative of the population at hand. All the samples used in the 4-contemporary peer-reviewed articles fulfilled the rule of thumb hence making them appropriate. The samples used were suitable for they were used to estimate the population parameters for it stood for the entire inhabitants. The samples used were larger but not too large to consume more resources of money and time. The larger sample has helped to produce accurate results making the samples valid and appropriate. The appropriateness of the samples used in these articles, it has been proved via usage of target variance. In using target variance an estimate to be derived from the model eventually attained.
Each article which has been used includes having results, limitations of results, conclusions, and applications. The first contemporary peer-reviewed article is entitled, Refugee women’s involvements of maternity-care facilities in Canada: a methodical review using a description synthesis written by Gina MA Higginbottom, Myfanwy Morgan, Miranda Alexandre, Yvonne Chiu, Joan Forgeron, Deb Kocay and Rubina Barolia. The article was published 11 February 2015. The results show that there needs to have a healthier understanding of the aspects that produce discrepancies in availability, adequacy, and outcomes during parenthood care (Higginbottom, Morgan, Alexandre, Chiu, Forg ...

Introduction
Goal 1 of the President’s New Freedom Commission Report states that: “Americans understand that mental health is essential to overall health.” This seems like a simple enough goal. It is, however, not as easy to achieve as it appears.
The link between mental and physical health has long been a subject of interest to theorists and practitioners and has been studied in the general population. For example, in a general population study, Sederer et al. (2006) found that those New Yorkers who reported nonspecific psychological distress suffered more physical health problems, were more likely to smoke, be inactive and have a poor diet than those who didn’t report distress. They noted that these individuals were much more likely to have hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity, asthma, and diabetes.
The link with physical health is especially important for those suffering from serious mental illness. We learned in a previous lesson that persons with serious mental illness were likely to die 25 years earlier than adults in the general population (Colton & Manderscheid, 2006). Of those who die, 87% do so because of medical illnesses (Parks, Radke, & Mazade, 2008). These studies, results from Sederer et al. in a general population, and others show that physical and psychological problems not only co-exist, but also have a relationship. Treating one without addressing the other will result in inadequate care for the individual who suffers from both. Not much in terms of practice, however, has been done to address this issue until fairly recently.
Why Integrate Care?
Addressing the physical health needs of persons with mental illness has become increasingly important as more evidence becomes available of the link between them. An account of a recently held forum at the Robert Graham Center for Policy Studies in Family Medicine and Primary Care noted:
“For years, the prevailing notion in medicine held that the body is treated in a physician's office and the mind in a ...

Abstract
The prevalence of obesity and sedentary lifestyle complications are increasing at alarming rates, representing a common but preventable cause of severe medical complications like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and early mortality. This chronic condition has been for a long time a public health concern and social determinant. The Fitbit app offers a unique opportunity to enhance the efficacy of weight loss plans as it is used to track activity, monitor steps, heart rate, energy expenditure, sleep, and sedentary behavior. The integrative review focused on how the American Heart Association (AHA) Diet and Lifestyle recommendations and the Fitbit app are used as innovative solutions to reduce obesity in adult patients.
Research Methodology: A systematic review was conducted to identify research articles completed in the preceding 4-5 years centered on obesity care, diet, physical activity, activity trackers, and lifestyle implications.
Results and Discussion: The databases searched were Chamberlain Library, PubMed, and CINHAL. Initial searches yielded over 2000 articles, of which 45 were chosen and examined because they fit the integrative review's theme. The 15 papers most relevant to the PICOT question were studied in further detail and appraised using the Johns Hopkins Evidence Appraisal table. The studies reported positive physical activity outcomes.
Conclusions and Further Recommendations:This systematic review supported the effectiveness of the AHA Diet and Lifestyle recommendations to reduce obesity, and clinical use generalization is recommended. Fitbit app provides new ways to improve physical activity habits, and the easy availability of electronic devices may enhance their generalizability use.
Keywords: Obesity care; Obesity complications; Lifestyle recommendations; Obesity management; Physical activity intervention using Fitbit activity trackers.

The document discusses chronic diseases as persistent health issues that affect many communities in the United States and other parts of the world. Common chronic diseases reported over the past 10 years include obesity, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, and cancer. The rising number of chronic disease cases has increased health care costs globally and forced governments to allocate more funding to health sectors. Project management approaches may help address chronic diseases by defining the problems, determining causes, generating solutions, and selecting the best options. However, these approaches also have disadvantages like increased complexity and high costs.

COMMENTS: Solid effort, Maria. Unfortunately, this assignment needed a good “once-over” prior to final submission. There were so many concerns – including grammar, punctuation, sentences made no sense, APA style, etc. – noted in just the first two paragraphs that I stopped my review of your assignment at this point. Being that you are in your 11 course in the program, this is problematic, to say the least. Please see my feedback below for details. That being said, you must contact the Academic Success Center (ASC) to work with a writing coach to address these and other notable issues with your writing, else you will have a difficult time from here on out in the program.
As always, when you open this document, make sure you go to the toolbar at the top of your screen and click the ‘Review’ link. From there, go to the right, click the dropdown, then click ‘All Markup’ to view all of my feedback (including any Track Changes, highlighted in-text comments, and ‘Comments’ bubbles located in the right-hand margin of the document).Identify Project Need and Scope Definition
Chronic illness is human diseases that are persistent or considered to be long-lasting in their effects.
In the United States, particularly the State of Florida, this is a common health issue
that affects many groups of people. The common public health issues that have been reported over the past 10
years include obesity, diabetes, asthma,
arthritis, and cancer (Chapel, Ritchey, Zhang, & Wang
, 2017). However, the most rampant diseases that have to bring adverse effects in most communities in the United States and other parts of the world are obesity, asthma, and diabetes.
Chronic diseases are some of the most rampant health issues that affect many communities in Florida State and other areas of the United States.
The problem arises from human living conditions, unlike acute illness, which is considered to occur through supernatural
means. According to the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention
(CDC), the issue of chronic diseases started to attract the attention of members of the public in early 2000 (Chapel et al., 2017).
Cases of Diabetes and obesity have topped the list as many conditions relating to such are reported to be high in many regions in the United States. Since 2005, the United States has been spending a considerable part of its budget to sought chronic disease cases that are currently rampant among the middle and old age Americans.
Unlike acute illness, chronic disease cases have rapidly grown over the past ten years. Currently, chronic illness is considered a lifestyle condition because they affect many people both in American communities and in other parts of the world. The issue of chronic diseases has led to an increase in the cost of health services in many countries across the globe. At the moment, governments o ...

4.1 EXPLORING INCENTIVE PAY
4-1 Explore the incentive pay approach.
Incentive pay

rewards employees for partially or completely attaining a predetermined work objective.
Incentive or variable pay is defined as compensation, other than base wages or salaries that
fluctuate according to employees’ attainment of some standard, such as a preestablished
formula, individual or group goals, or company earnings.
Effective incentive pay systems are based on three assumptions:
Individual employees and work teams differ in how much they contribute to the
company, both in what they do as well as in how well they do it.
The company’s overall performance depends to a large degree on the performance of
individuals and groups within the company.
To attract, retain, and motivate high performers and to be fair to all employees, a
company needs to reward employees on the basis of their relative performance.
Much like seniority and merit pay approaches, incentive pay augments employees’ base pay,
but incentive pay appears as a one-time payment. Employees usually receive a combination
of recurring base pay and incentive pay, with base pay representing the greater portion of
core compensation. More employees are presently eligible for incentive pay than ever before,
as companies seek to control costs and motivate personnel continually to strive for exemplary
performance. Companies increasingly recognize the importance of applying incentive pay
programs to various kinds of employees as well, including production workers, technical
employees, and service workers.
Some companies use incentive pay extensively. Lincoln Electric Company, a manufacturer of
welding machines and motors, is renowned for its use of incentive pay plans. At Lincoln
Electric, production employees receive recurring base pay as well as incentive pay. The
company determines incentive pay awards according to five performance criteria: quality,
output, dependability, cooperation, and ideas. The company has awarded incentive payments
every year since 1934, through prosperous and poor economic times. In 2014, the average
profit sharing payment per employee was $33,984.
Coupled with average base
pay, total core compensation for Lincoln employees was $82,903. Over the past 10 years,
Lincoln’s profit-sharing payments averaged approximately 40 percent of annual salary.

Chapter 2: Literature Review

4-1 Explore the incentive pay approach.
Incentive pay

variable pay

rewards employees for partially or completely attaining a predetermined work objective.
Over the past 10 years,
Lincoln’s profit-sharing payments averaged approximately 40 percent of annual salary.

backcountry of southeastern Arizona, where the main deterrent to
trespassers is the challenging nature of the terrain—not the metal

But the border crosser was des-

The border crosser was a jaguar.
Jaguars once roamed throughout

are now quite rare. A core population

It seems that this source is arguing the effect of social media on mental health. This source uses this evidence to support the argument: Provided studies focusing on why individuals use social media, types of social network platforms, and the value of social capital. A counterargument for this source is: Studies that focus more on statistical usage rather than emotion connection. Personally, I believe the source is doing a good job of supporting its arguments because it provides an abundance of study references and clearly portrays the information and intent. I think this source will be very helpful in supporting my argument because of the focus on emotional connection to social media and its effects on mental health.

It seems that this source is arguing that social media platforms are not doing enough to eliminate harmful pro-ED posts. This source uses this evidence to support the argument: Information about specific platforms and what they have done to moderate content, links for more information, and what constitutes as harmful content. A counterargument for this source is that it is too difficult for platforms to remove the content and to even find it. In addition, it is believed there may be harmful effects on vulnerable people posting this type of content. Personally, I believe the source is doing a good job of supporting its arguments because it provides opposing viewpoints as well as raising awareness of some of the dangers of social media posts. I think this source will be very helpful in supporting my argument because it provides information on specifically what is being done to moderate this type of content on social media, and what some of the difficulties in moderating are.

NIMH: Opinion or Fact
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) was formed in 1946 and is one of 27 institutes that form the National Institute of Health (NIH) (NIMH, 2019). The mission of the NIMH is “To transform the understanding and treatment of mental illnesses through basic and clinical research, paving the way for prevention, recovery, and cure.” (NIMH, 2019). There are many different mental illnesses discussed on the NIMH website to include Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The NIMH website about ADHD is effective at providing the public general information and meets the criteria of authority, objectivity, and currency.
The NIMH website about ADHD provides an overview of ADHD, discusses signs and symptoms, and risk factors. The NIMH continues with information about treatment and therapies. Information provided by the NIMH is intended for both children and adults. The NIMH concludes on the page with studies the public can join and more resources for the public such as booklets, brochures, research and clinical trials.
As described by Jim Kapoun authority can be identified by who or what institution/organization published the document and if the information in the document is cited correctly (Cornell, 2020). The information on the website is published by the NIMH which is the lead research institute related to mental health for the last 70 plus years (NIMH, 2019). On the page related to ADHD the NIMH references the program of Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) and provides a hyperlink to access the resources available with the agency (NIMH,2019). This link can be found under the support groups section in the treatment and therapies. On the website to the right of the area describing inattention the NIMH has a section on research. In this block there is a link to “PubMed: Journal Articles about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)” which will take you to a search of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) published by PubMed on ADHD (NIMH, 2019). Throughout the entire page the NIMH provides sources and hyperlinks to the sources as citations. Based on the reputation of the NIMH and the citations to the source material the website meets the criteria of authority.
According to Kapoun objectivity can be identified looking for areas where the author expresses his or her opinion (Cornell, 2020). Information provided on the NIMH page about ADHD does not express the opinion of the author. The author produces only factual information based on research. The NIMH makes it a point not to mention the names of medications when discussing treatments and only explains the medications fall in two categories stimulants and non-stimulants (NIMH, 2019). In this same area the NIMH provides hyperlinks to the NIMH Mental Health Medication and FDA website for information about medication. The extent at which the NIMH goes to not provide an opinion on the website meet ...

This is an electronic template for papers written in GCU style. The purpose of the template is to help you follow the basic writing expectations for beginning your coursework at GCU. Margins are set at 1 inch for top, bottom, left, and right. The first line of each paragraph is indented a half inch (0.5"). The line spacing is double throughout the paper, even on the reference page. One space after punctuation is used at the end of a sentence. The font style used in this template is Times New Roman. The font size is 12 point. When you are ready to write, and after having read these instructions completely, you can delete these directions and start typing. The formatting should stay the same. If you have any questions, please consult with your instructor.
Citations are used to reference material from another source. When paraphrasing material from another source (such as a book, journal, website), include the author’s last name and the publication year in parentheses. When directly quoting material word-for-word from another source, use quotation marks and include the page number after the author’s last name and year.
Using citations to give credit to others whose ideas or words you have used is an essential requirement to avoid issues of plagiarism. Just as you would never steal someone else’s car, you should not steal his or her words either. To avoid potential problems, always be sure to cite your sources. Cite by referring to the author’s last name, the year of publication in parentheses at the end of the sentence, such as (George & Mallery, 2016), and page numbers if you are using word-for-word materials. For example, “The developments of the World War II years firmly established the probability sample survey as a tool for describing population characteristics, beliefs, and attitudes” (Heeringa, West, & Berglund, 2017, p. 3).
The reference list should appear at the end of a paper (see the next page). It provides the information necessary for a reader to locate and retrieve any source you cite in the body of the paper. Each source you cite in the paper must appear in your reference list; likewise, each entry in the reference list must be cited in your text. A sample reference page is included below; this page includes examples (George & Mallery, 2016; Heeringa et al., 2017; Smith et al., 2018; “USA swimming,” 2018; Yu, Johnson, Deutsch, & Varga, 2018) of how to format different reference types (e.g., books, journal articles, and a website). 3Welcome to Writing at Work! After you have completed.docxlorainedeserre
3
Welcome to Writing at Work! After you have completed the reading for the week, write an email to introduce yourself to your peers. The name of your thread should be what you would include in the subject of the email.
As you compose your email, keep in mind the following:
· You are addressing a group you will work with in a professional capacity for at least 15 weeks. Let us know something about you, but don't share anything you wouldn't want repeated.
· You should include what you perceive to be your relative strengths with regard to writing at work. What types of tasks would you feel most comfortable taking on?
· You should also include what aspects of writing at work make you feel least comfortable. What types of tasks would you not be as suited for?
· What do you hope to learn in the next several months?
Next, in an attachment, choose one of the following two prompts and write a letter, taking into account the purpose, audience, and appropriate style for the task.
1. Your organization has been contracted to complete a project for an important client, and you were charged with managing the project. It has unfortunately become clear that your team will not meet the deadline. Your supervisor has told you to contact the client in writing to alert them to the situation and wants to be cc'd on the message. Write a letter, which you will send via email, addressing the above.
2. After a year-long working relationship, your organization will no longer be making use of a freelancer's services due to no fault of their own. Write a letter alerting them to this fact.

HRT 4760 Assignment 01
Timeliness
First, you will choose one particular organization where you will conduct each of your 15 different observational assignments. Stick with this same organization throughout your coursework. (Do not switch around assignment locations at different organizations or locations.) The reason for continuing your observational assignments at the same organization is to give you a deeper understanding of this particular organization across the 15 different assignments. As you read on, you will get a more complete understanding as to how these 15 assignments come together.
Tip: Many students choose the organization where they are currently working. This works particularly well. If you are working there, you have much opportunity to gain access to the areas that will give you a more complete understanding of the quality of entire service package (the 15 different elements) that the organization offers to its customers.
This is one of a package of 15 different assignments that comprise the Elements of Service, which you will study this term. For this assignment, you will observe elements of service in almost any particular service establishment. A few examples of service establishments would include, but not be limited to these: Hotel, resort, private club, restaurant, airline, cruise line, grocery store, doctor’s office, coffee house, and scores of oth ...

Introduction
An Introduction should be succinct and to the point. Start your Introduction with a general and brief observation about the paper’s topic. Write a thesis statement, which is the “road map” for your paper - it helps your reader to navigate your work. In your thesis statement, be specific about the major areas you plan to address in your paper.
The headings below should guide your introduction, since they identify the topics to be addressed in your paper. The introduction is not a graded part of your rubric but it helps your reader to understand what your assignment will be about. We recommend that you write this part of your Introduction after you complete the other sections of your paper. It only needs to be one paragraph in length.
Analysis and Recommendations
You must answer each of the following questions in your paper. Keep your responses focused on the topic. Straying off into additional areas, even if they are interesting, will not earn additional marks, and may actually detract from the clarity of your responses.
I. Where is each company in its corporate lifecycle (startup, growth, maturity or decline)? Explain.
Before writing your response to this question, make sure you understand what characterizes ea ...

48 Human Resource Management
Introduction
As described in Chapter 2, strategic HRM is a mindset that leads to strategic actions and reac-
tions, either in the form of overall or specifi c HR strategies or strategic behaviour on the part
of HR professionals. This chapter focuses on HR strategies and answers the following ques-
tions: What are HR strategies? What are the main types of overall HR strategies? What are the
main areas in which specifi c HR strategies are developed? What are the criteria for an effective
HR strategy? How should HR strategies be developed? How should HR strategies be
implemented?
What are HR strategies?
HR strategies set out what the organization intends to do about its human resource manage-
ment policies and practices and how they should be integrated with the business strategy and
each other. They are described by Dyer and Reeves (1995) as ‘internally consistent bundles of
human resource practices’. Richardson and Thompson (1999) suggest that:
A strategy, whether it is an HR strategy or any other kind of management strategy must
have two key elements: there must be strategic objectives (ie things the strategy is sup-
posed to achieve), and there must be a plan of action (ie the means by which it is pro-
posed that the objectives will be met).
The purpose of HR strategies is to articulate what an organization intends to do about its
human resource management policies and practices now and in the longer term, bearing in
mind the dictum of Fombrun et al (1984) that business and managers should perform well in
the present to succeed in the future. HR strategies aim to meet both business and human needs
in the organization.
HR strategies may set out intentions and provide a sense of purpose and direction, but they are
not just long-term plans. As Gratton (2000) commented: ‘There is no great strategy, only great
execution.’
Because all organizations are different, all HR strategies are different. There is no such thing as
a standard strategy and research into HR strategy conducted by Armstrong and Long (1994)
and Armstrong and Baron (2002) revealed many variations. Some strategies are simply very
general declarations of intent. Others go into much more detail. ...

Summarize the nine steps in Ackerman and Anderson’s road map for change.
Analyze Cummings and Worley’s five dimensions of leading and managing change.
Describe how to align an organization with its new vision and future state.
Explain how roles/relationships and interventions are used to implement change.

Alan Mulally was selected to lead Ford in 2006 after he was bypassed as CEO at Boeing, where he had worked and was expected to become CEO. Insiders and top-level managers at Ford, some of whom had expected to become CEO, were initially suspicious and then outraged when Mulally was hired. They questioned what someone from the airplane industry would know about the car business (Kiley, 2009).
Chair William (Bill) Clay Ford, Jr.—who selected Mulally as CEO—told Ford’s officers that the company needed a fresh perspective and a shake-up, especially since it had lost $14.8 billion in 2008—the most in its 105-year history—and had burned through $21.2 billion, or 61%, of its cash (Kiley, 2009). Because Ford knew that the company’s upper echelon culture was closed, bureaucratic, and rejected outsiders and new ways of thinking, he was not surprised by his officers’ reactions. However, Ford’s managers had no idea that the company was fighting for its life. To succeed, Mulally would need Chair Ford’s full endorsement and support, and he got it.
The company’s biggest cultural challenge was to break down the silos that various executives had built. As we will discuss more in Chapter 4, silos are specific processes or departments in an organization that work independently of each other without strong communication between or among them. A lack of communication can often stifle productivity and innovation, and this was exactly what was happening at Ford.
Mulally devised a turnaround strategy and developed it into the Way Forward Plan. The plan centralized and modernized plants to handle several models at once, to be sold in several markets. The plan was designed to break up the fiefdoms of isolated cultures, in which leaders independently developed and decided where to sell cars. Mulally’s plan also kept managers in positions for longer periods of time to deepen their expertise and improve consistency of operations. The manager who ran the Mazda Motor affiliate commented, “I’m going into my fourth year in the same job. I’ve never had such consistency of purpose before” (as cited in Kiley, 2009, “Meetings About Meetings,” para. 2).
Mulally’s leadership style involved evaluating and analyzing a situation using data and facts and then earning individuals’ support with his determinatio ...

RES 9300
Recently, Autism has become a serious health concern to parents. According to Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2018), about one in fifty nine United States children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder with one in six children developing developmental disability ranging from mild disabilities such as speech and language impairments to serious developmental disabilities, such as intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, and autism (CDC,2018). World Health Organization (2019) estimates that 1 in 160 children globally has autism making it one of the most prevalent diseases. Despite the disease prevalence, most population has little knowledge about the disease. Many health practitioners have proposed early care as a means to control the disease effects.
Purpose Statement
The purpose of this study is to determine whether early intervention services can help improve the development of children suffering from autism. This study also aims to explore the general public awareness and perception about autism disorder.
Research Questions
(1) How should service delivery for autistic patients be improved to promote their health? (2) What impact does early intervention services have on development of children suffering from autism? (3) How can public knowledge on autism improve support and care for autistic patients? (4) What effect will early intervention have on patient’s social skills?

Interpretations of Iron Age Architecture Brochs in Society/Social Identity
Archaeology is a historical field which has advanced over the years based on more discoveries still being experienced by the archaeologists who seek them. According to Kelly and Thomas (2010; p.5), the concession that life existed in more ancient times than stipulated by biblical scholars and human culture allowed the archaeologists to dig deeper into genealogical data. Iron Age architecture and social/society identity relate to one another. For instance, the population, based on their identity and perception will construct buildings that directly reflect their beliefs. This essay will discuss these archaeological concepts of Iron Age architecture and society/social identity. Need a paragraph on brochs and how many and where they are across Scotland with patcialur focus on the atlantc region, this is not relevant for masters essay. Must define broch from its architecture and how long it would take to build and note famous ones and note the ones that will be referred to in this essay – this could be Perhaps incorpated into the next paragraph.
Iron Age architecture has over the years been dominated by differing archaeological concepts and debates. It was defined by settlements and settlement structures such as duns, brochs, wheelhouses, hillforts, stone-built round houses and timber. The social and societal identity which is identified through material remains indicates aspects of differentiation, regional patterns and segregation. According to Kelly and Thomas (2010; p.28), people who existed in Iron Age Scotland were isolated. This is demonstrated by the presence of a burial followed by an assembled chariot at Newbridge. Northern and western Scotland have been the source of the well-structured developments that have provided cultural, architectural and social data over time. Maes Howe, which is the largest Orkney burial cairn, located between Stromne ...

This document summarizes theories of teaching from several influential learning theorists. It discusses how theorists like Thorndike, Guthrie, Skinner, Hull, Tolman, and Gagné viewed the role of the teacher based on their behavioral and cognitive learning theories derived from animal and child studies. They generally saw teaching as managing external conditions to ensure specified behavioral changes in learners. The document then contrasts this with theories of teaching from adult learning theorists like Rogers, who rejected the notion that teaching is controlling learning and saw the teacher's role differently.

Telecommuting
The hard truth about telecommuting
Telecommuting has not permeated the American workplace, and
where it has become commonly used, it is not helpful in reducing
work-family conflicts; telecommuting appears, instead, to have
become instrumental in the general expansion of work hours,
facilitating workers’ needs for additional worktime beyond the
standard workweek and/or the ability of employers to increase or
intensify work demands among their salaried employees

Telecommuting, defined here as work tasks regularly performed at home, has achieved enough
traction in the American workplace to
merit intensive scrutiny, with 24 percent
of employed Americans reporting in recent
surveys that they work at least some hours
at home each week.1 The definitions of
telecommuting are quite diverse. In this ar-
ticle, we define telecommuters as employ-
ees who work regularly, but not exclusively,
at home. In our definition, at-home work
activities do not need to be technologically
mediated nor do telecommuters need a
formal arrangement with their employer to
work at home.
Telecommuting is popular with policy
makers and activists, with proponents
pointing out the multiple ways in which
telecommuting can cut commuting time
and costs,2 reduce energy consumption
and traffic congestion, and contribute to
worklife balance for those with caregiving
responsibilities.3 Changes in the structure
of jobs that enable mothers to more effec-
tively compete in the workplace, such as
telecommuting, may be needed to finally
eliminate the gender gap in earnings and
direct more earned income to children,
both important public policy goals.4
Evidence also reveals that an increasing num-
ber of jobs in the American economy could be
performed at home if employers were willing
to allow employees to do so.5 Often, employees
can perform jobs at home without supervision
in the “high-tech” sector, in the financial sector,
and many in the communication sector that are
technology dependent. The obstacles or barriers
to telecommuting seem to be more organiza-
tional, stemming from the managers’ reluctance
to give up direct supervisory control of workers
and from their fears of shirking among workers
who telecommute.6
Where the impact of telecommuting has
been empirically evaluated, it seems to boost
productivity, decrease absenteeism, and increase
retention.7 But can telecommuting live up to its
promise as an effective work-family policy that
helps employees meet their nonwork responsi-
bilities? To do so, tel ...

1. Read the entire Prospectus Template to understand the
requirements for writing your prospectus. Each section contains
a narrative overview of what should be included in the section
and a table with required criteria for each section. WRITE TO
THE CRITERIA, as they will be used to assess the prospectus
for overall quality and feasibility of your proposed research
study.
2. As you draft each section, delete the narrative instructions
and insert your work related to that section. Use the criterion
2. table for each section to ensure that you address the
requirements for that particular section. Do not delete/remove
the criterion table as this is used by you and your committee to
evaluate your prospectus.
3. Prior to submitting your prospectus for review by your chair
or methodologist, use the criteria table for each section to
complete a realistic self-evaluation, inserting what you believe
is your score for each listed criterion into the Learner Self-
Evaluation column. This is an exercise in self-evaluation and

Introduction
This research study will examine the factors according to
mental health providers that influence an individuals' decision
to utilize mental health services in South Texas. This research
will help us understand why individuals choose to utilize or
reject mental health services in the state. Researchers (AUTH
YEAR) have expressed a need for further research on the
reasons why people decide to utilize or reject mental health
services. In South Texas this research is needed because
XXXXXXX. There is a high need as this region receives the
4. second-largest allocation for mental health in the country (Mista
et al. 2017). Interestingly, Misra et al. (2017) describe the use
of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for mental
health treatment among children in Southern Texas. Despite all
these efforts, there still exists a gap between the treatment of
mental health disorders in the US. This research on reasons why
people use or reject mental health treatment is needed because
mental health is such a prevalent problem. Indeed, mental
health service use is an international problem. Comment by
Dr. Seymour: This is the “gap” statement for further research
that we discussed.
Mental health is a major issue around the World. The United
Nations (UN, 2015) has identified the issue as one of its
Sustainable Development Goals. These are a collection of goals
designed globally that aim to achieve a sustainable future for
all. The UN expressed its uncertainty regarding the extent to
which major social determinants of mental disorders are being
addressed worldwide (WHO, 2015). Developing a conceptual
framework will address There is a need to identify the social
determinants of mental disorders, and align it with its
sustainable development goals, . This way it can systematically
review the pieces of evidence about the social determinants and
identify potential mechanisms and targets for interventions
(Lund, et al. 2018). Part of this effort is to determine why
people choose to get mental health support or not. Comment by
Dr. Seymour: Provides a summary of results from the prior
empirical research on the topic. This is really not meeting this
item. Instead it is part of the reason why the study is needed
from the first rubric item.
Mental health is a national problem as well. According to the
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
(SAMHSA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) and the U.S. Department of Justice, millions of people
suffer from mental illness in this country. The high numbers
necessitate raising public awareness and start campaigning for a
much better health care system (Hamilton.et al. 2016).
5. According to the National Alliance on Mental Health (2019),
47.6 million people in the U.S. experienced signs of a mental
illness in 2018. This amounts to one in every five adults.
Roughly 11.4 million Adults between the ages of 25 and 35 had
an episode of serious mental illness that same year. In 2016, 7.7
million young people between the ages of 6 and 17 experienced
some sort of mental health disorder, while 9.2 million people
were reported to have experienced a substance use disorder
(National Alliance on Mental Illness, 2019). The high numbers
necessitate raising public awareness and campaigning for a
better health care system (Hamilton.et al. 2016). Part of this
effort is identifying the reasons why people choose to utilize or
reject mental health support.
Results from previous studies on the topic of use of mental
health services indicate that there is a gap between the people
who need treatment and the people who get treatment.
According to Kohn, et al. (2018), there is an emphasis on the a
gap in mental health treatment in America when examined
through the prevalence of mental health disorders, the lack of
use of mental health services, and the global burden of disease.
Statistical data from community-based surveys of mental
disorders in the various countries in America including
Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, and the United States, etc.
were utilized in formulating this conclusion. While 42.6% of
children and adolescents in the US suffered mental illness, the
treatment gap in this group was 64%. This issues of addressing
a lack of mental health services has not been given enough
attention, thus resulting in a wide gap in treatment(REF).
Comment by Dr. Seymour: Provides a summary of results
from the prior empirical research on the topic. Comment by Dr.
Seymour: How it is about America when the data is
international? Focus on US.
Other studies have found that there are programs that help
support the use of mental health services. According to
Bowdoin et al. (2018), a patient-centered medical home
6. (PCMH) model This designed to improve certain mental health
outcomes, while at the same time proving effective as cost-
containment. A total 6908 non-aging adults suffering from
mental illness participated in the 2007-2012 Medical
Expenditure Panel Survey. Utilization of healthcare services
was compared with expenditures on care consistent with the
PCMH, other participants include a non-PCMH, usual source of
care (USC), and participants without a USC. The outcome
showed differences in utilization and expenditures between
participants who were provided with care consistent with the
PCMH and those who had a non-PCMH. USC showed no
statistical importance for any healthcare services category.
Using results, societal needs, recommendations for further
study, or needs identified in three to five research studies
(primarily from the last three years), the learner identifies the
stated need, called a gap
Given these needs in the mental health around the world, in the
US and in South Texas this study will examine the gap: there is
a need to understand why people choose to utilize or reject
mental health services. This is recommended by researchers
including xxxx who stated “ xxxx” (p. 202).
Mental disorders in children can be corrected if detected early
enough. Unfortunately, most of the caregivers do not have the
skills to detect these disorders, which allows them to persist to
the point that it is dangerous (Kohn et al. 2018).
According to Bowdoin et al. (2018), a patient-centered medical
home (PCMH) model is designed to improve certain mental
health outcomes, while at the same time proving effective as
cost-containment.
This proposed study will examine the links between care
provided that is inconsistent with the PCMH and healthcare
7. services utilization as well as expenditures for non-aging
citizens who are suffering from mental illness in the United
States. Comment by Dr. Seymour: This seems too
complicated. You don’t want to do this for your study I don’t
think. You would need a pcmh system. Do you have one? You’d
have to compare it to non pcmh.
A total 6908 non-aging adults suffering from mental illness

Background of the Problem
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(2018), mental health has become a significant public health
issue in the United States that requires immediate attention.
9. There is a gap in the research regarding the reasons people
utilize or reject mental health treatment according to Authors
(years). The research has documented this gap. This includes
REFS REFS REFS. Comment by Dr. Seymour: Includes a brief
discussion demonstrating how literature has established the gap
and a clear statement informing the reader of the gap.
Discusses how the “need” or “defined gap” has evolved
historically into the current problem or opportunity to be
addressed by the proposed study (citing seminal and/or current
research).
Early research on use of mental health services found xxxxxx.
Later research on use of mental health services found xxxxxx.
Current research on use of mental health services found xxxxxx.
There is the need to understand the consequences of both
effective utilization and non-utilization of mental health as it
has evolved historically. Mental health services in this southern
state have faced several challenges. Texas (2017) asserts that
people suffering from mental illness still face problems despite
the huge costs that are directed towards healthcare. Schwartz
(2017), in support of the Southern State Region, argues that the
increased growth-rate of populations in one specific county
located in a southern state has impacted the health sector at
large. The high population together with economic constrains
has led to a decrease in the number of insurance policies
offering individuals access to health. The access to and
utilization of mental health care for the populations living in
this county has created a gap within the State (Children at Risk,
2013).
10. A mental disorder must be diagnosed at its early stages to avoid
the advance effects of it progressing into adolescence (Kohn et
al. 2018). According to Grayson (2018), there has been a
notable difference in how patients utilize mental health services
with patients that experience a high level of burden more likely
to utilize mental health services. Similarly, the caregivers that
experience serious signs of depression or anxiety in their child
or adolescent will tend to use the services more than the
caregivers who experience mild or no sign of depression or
anxiety. The mental health status of the caregiver is of no
significance and does not influence need and utilization
(Grayson, 2016). Comment by Dr. Seymour: This is research
on what people have already found on your research question. It
answers your research question instead of indicating that there
is a need for research on it. It might be useful in the literature
review.
Misra et al. (2017) in their article describe the concept relating
to the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM)
for mental health treatment among children in the Southern
State Region. According to the authors, CAM use among US
children stands at 12%. South Texas has begun to put forth a lot
of effort into improving the health care treatment of children.
The services offered are directly proportional to the allocation
provided. Research showed that some institutions have released
more funding to operate this sector and that this region receives
the second-largest allocation for mental health in the country
(Mista et al. 2017). Despite all these efforts, there still exists a
gap between the treatment of mental health disorders in the US.

Theoretical Foundations/Conceptual Framework and Review of
the Literature/Themes
The theoretical model for this research gap is Albert Bandura’s
Social Cognitive Theory. The Social Cognitive Theory can be
applied to the context of mental health promotion and
prevention. It helps to describe how motivations in health and
behaviors are influenced by the interaction of people's beliefs,
environment, and behaviors. It was advocated by famous
psychologist Albert Bandura (Morin, 2019). It is important to
determine the limiting factors behind individuals and families
not currently getting the mental health services that they need.
Major components of the theory concerning individual behavior
change include:
· Self-efficacy: The belief that an individual has control over
and can execute a behavior.
· Behavioral capability: Understanding and having the skill to
perform a behavior.
· Expectations: Determining the outcomes of behavior change.
· Expectancy: Assigning a value to the outcomes of behavior
change.
· Self-control: Regulating and monitoring individual behavior.
· Observational learning: Watching/observing outcomes of
others' performance or modeled behavior.
· Reinforcements: Promoting incentives and rewards that
encourage behavior change (Eslami et al. 2018).
13. Theoretical literature

effective utilization and non-utilization of mental health as it

Literature Themes
Review of the literature review identified the following themes:
Comment by Dr. Seymour: Review of the Literature
Themes section: This section is a bulleted list of the major
themes or topics related to the research topic. Each theme or
topic should have a one-two sentence summary.
· Research documenting Mental Health Need
· Research Documenting the lack of use of mental health
services
· Reasons for Lack of Use of Mental Health Services
· Lack of proper mental health education and infrastructure has
been the major factor affecting the utilization of mental health
(REF) .
· Augsberger et al. (2015) in support of this research argued
that mental health services had been underutilized by Asian
women living in this county, as a result of both cultural needs
and mismatch of the services offered in the health facilities in
this Southern State.
14. · Lack of medical insurance.
· Research has shown that many people due to poor economic
status have left many people without health insurance as they
cannot afford it. This limits many average and lower-class
families from accessing mental illness services (Children at
Risk, 2013).
· The poor perception among the community members.
Researchers reveal that many people who live in this county
perceive child mental illness as a mere sign of hunger besides
poor diets. This has left many people neglecting the utilization
of mental healthcare in the community (Children at Risk, 2013).
· Reasons for Use of Mental Health Services
· Goldman et al. (2018) in their research found out that women
who had been exposed to sexual abuse and drug abuse formed
the high numbers of people who utilize mental health services
among the Hispanic and non-white people in the county.
Augsberger et al. (2015) in support of this research argued that
mental health services had been underutilized by Asian women
living in this county, as a result of both cultural needs and
mismatch of the services offered in the health facilities in this
Southern State. What happens to these women as a result of
these lack of services needs to be further extrapolated by further
research. This demonstrates a current gap in existing literature.
· This is another gap in existing literature. It is important to
ascertain the reality that living in poverty face and how a lack
of services prevents them from being able to be class mobile in
terms of future career opportunities.
· The theoretical model for this research gap is the Albert
Bandura, Social Cognitive Theory. The Social Cognitive
Theory: Examines the context of health promotion and disease
prevention. It helps to describe how motivations in health and
behaviors are influenced by the interaction of people's beliefs,
environment, and behaviors. It was advocated by famous
psychologists Albert Bandura (Morin, 2019). It is important to
determine the limiting factors behind individuals and families
not currently getting the mental health services that they need.
15. Many do no seek help due to social stigmatization, while others
simply lack any type of access in the first place. Due to a lack
of promotion in this area, many do not know where to turn and
this is causing the problem to be compounded in society from
one generation to the next.

· Reinforcements: Promoting incentives and rewards that
encourage behavior change (Eslami et al. 2018).

The study aims to come with the factors that either positively
influence or deter the people in the StateSouth Texas from
accessing much-needed mental healthcare. The study will
employ a qualitative study that will target mental health
providers within the State who are service providers that care
for the mentally challenged and compare factors impacting
utilization and non-utilization of mental services available in
the State. This study will make a recommendation on how to
21. improve the mental health accessibility in the State. It will
identify multiple factors that are associated with both the
utilization and under-utilization of specialty mental health
services among the people living in South Texas, such as delays
in observing and recognizing the symptoms and how to seek
help, the absence of appropriate mental health providers, and
lack of health insurance. Comment by Dr. Seymour: This is all

include xxxxx. The literature has identified that stigma is
preventing seeking mental health treatment (Morin & Cherry,
2019). This study may document that stigma is a problem in
South Texas and what practitioners recommend doing to combat
stigma. Summary sentence NEEDED. Comment by Dr.
Seymour: Describes how the study will address the “gap” or
“identified need” defined in the literature and contribute to
/advance the body of literature. (citations required)
The results of this research will add considerably to the
conclusions already reached by other studies, as it provides
means by which prevention and intervention efforts will help to
raise mental health awareness and the importance of utilizing
mental health services among Americans as well as offer
culturally sensitive services. The result would direct and focus
efforts on reducing the stigma that is associated with mental
health problems in the minds of most people (Morin and Cherry,
2019).
26. In addition, the results will help and be of value to
practitioners in determining the necessary strategies to be used
to allow more individuals to receive the necessary health care
services that they require. It will also help in eliminating the
individualized beliefs that prevent people from getting the
public services they need and thus help them be more
responsive to the services that are available to them.
Comment by Dr. Seymour: Describes the potential
practical applications from the research. (citations required)
Similarly, the result will enhance knowledge of social learning
theory through observation and modeling as they both play
significant and primary roles in this process, which moves far
and beyond Albert Bandura's behavioral theory, which suggests
that all behaviors can or are learned through conditioning, and
cognitive theories. Bandura's social learning theory also
proposed that learning also exists or develops simply by
observing the actions of others (Morin and Cherry, 2019).
Therefore, a learning condition like this may be used in
explaining different behaviors, including those factors
influencing individuals' decision to either utilize or not utilize
mental health. Comment by Dr. Seymour: Not the theory you
said you were using. Social cognitive theory is different. Which
one are you using? How is all of this related to your
study???What will this study to do extend the theory? Bring it
into this new area where it might be helpful? Have others used
it to describe seeking mental health treatment?

Rationale for Methodology
Qualitative methodology (Colorafi and Evans, 2016) will be

appropriate methodology that will be used in for answering the
research questions of this study which ask xxxxx. Qualiative
methods are appropriate because xxxxxx. , Comment by Dr.

and which will also address the problem statement is a
qualitative methodology (Colorafi and Evans, 2016). Why?
The qualitative approach is very effective when a phenomenon
that is being queried is properly and effectively defined. It is
appropriate for this study because the phenomena is clearly
defined as the factors that mental health professionals identify
as reasons people utilize or reject mental heath services. , and
this study has distinctly defined the phenomena of factors
influencing the behavior Comment by Dr. Seymour: Justify in

29. The methodology is preferred as it can document a first hand
account about the lack of mental health services being taken
advantage of by marginalized members of society. This will
support existing research in this area and aim to fill in certain
gaps that currently exist in literature. This methodology was
adopted because it will help to provide real-life evidence from
the interview with participants in terms of how the problem is
impacting them. The literature has determined the causes of the
low utilization of mental health in a certain area of Texas to
include limitations to accessing health care. It has also
identified other barriers to specialty mental health care
utilization (Augsberger et al, 2015).
· Interviews and Questionnaires will be used to gather accurate
information
· Data will be obtained to determine the health-seeking behavior
and mental health patients/services in Texas
Conclusions will be extrapolated based on existing literature
and the information shared by participants during the interviews

Nature of the Research Design for the Study
31. The design for this piece of research work will be a qualitative
descriptive study that will collect information from service
providers across Texas, which is aimed at identifying the
specific issues that are deterring the utilization of mental
healthcare facilities in a certain area of the state. This
qualitative descriptive design is the most appropriate design

selected because it helps to connect how mental health
providers and mental health professionals combine to influence
an individual’s decision to utilize mental health services (Kim
et al., 2017). This method is also justified as it applies the
description of the factors affecting the problem and how they
ultimately determine the outcome. According to Kim et al
(2017), qualitative-descriptive research helpful in so far as it
explains why a natural phenomenon exists and how it impacts a
given population. This method is suitable for research

The interview will utilize structured questionnaires developed
by the researcher to uncover the phenomena at hand. In
addition, structured face-face interviews will be conducted with
open-ended questions that require participants to elaborate on
the causes that keep people from properly utilizing mental
health services. Responses should also lead to the development
of a conclusion as to why qualifying individuals are hesitant to
receive the mental health treatment that they need. The initial
collection of data would involve getting a list of mental health
providers who are members of Mental Health Organizations
including:
Mental Health America (MHA)
National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)
National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI)
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)
Selected providers will be selected to complete a basic
questionnaire that details certain demographic information and
confirms experience in the field. Tools will be used in
collecting primary data, while the selected group will be
composed of service providers. A tape-recorded analysis will
also be used within the focus groups. Furthermore, the research
will make note of the factors that providers think can improve
mental health accessibility throughout the state.

Data Collection
The data collection process will be as follows:
· The process will begin by writing a letter to the dean to get
permission.
· After the IRB committee gives its approval for the project to
begin, participants will be selected. The study sample is set to
include caregivers, service providers, psychiatrists, therapists,
school counselors and members of the community.
· Data collection will only start after candidates have
acknowledged and DocuSign signed the consent form.
Furthermore, the dissertation will collect information from a
selected group of providers to provide primary data.
· The researcher will communicate with the sample group and
allocate everyone a specified time that they are free and then
will follow up to ensure that all the sample members are
included. Moreover, the researcher will ensure that the
providers who are to receive questionnaires are directly
contacted to make sure that they receive, properly fill out, and
return the questionnaire to the researcher within a specified
period of time.
· The research will be conducted systematically in a way that
begins with interviewing the service providers. The process will
be as follows:
38. · Respondents will be 12 mental health providers given
questionnaires to fill.
· Interviews will involve 12 respondents from within Texas.
· Respondents will respond to both interviews and the

Data Analysis Procedures
Upon completion of the interviews, each one will be transcribed
from the audio that has been recorded. Descriptive statistical
analysis will then began based on the results from the interview
and focus group sessions. Collected data will first be manually
40. coded for inductive codes that emerge from the data. Common
codes across participants will be determined as themes. with the
themes of the study. The coded themes will then be analyzed
and explanations assigned. The overall aim of the analysis will
be to find a certain level of consensus relating to the factors
that influence an individual’s decision to not utilize existing
mental health services offered throughout the county. During
this initial stage, individual interviews will be conducted,
recorded, and transcribed verbatim. This will be followed by the
researcher repeatedly reading and listening to the content to
become intimately familiar with it. This will allow the
researcher to be able to identify the answers to the research
questions forming the basis for this study, as well as identify
any themes that the participants seem to agree on repeatedly
adddress. The researcher will use the two theories selected to
see if the themes from the interviews align with the theoretical
framework. Comment by Dr. Seymour: Zoom transcripts,

· Data will be collected and analyzed for the study.
· Descriptive statistics will be used to summarize the acquired
data.
· Coding will be used to address the questions posed.
· A narrative summary will be developed.
The researcher may choose to adopt the process notes and
MAXDQA in organizing and visualizing data. According to
Braun and Clarke (2006), the following six-step thematic
analysis process is effective in identifying the relevant patterns
in data. Comment by Dr. Seymour: GOOD!!!!
· Stage 1: Become familiar with the data: the researcher is
expected to already be familiar with the contents of the research
and have a better understanding of it. This is because the
researcher is the individual who will collect the data.
· Stage 2: Generate first codes regarding the significant ideas
discovered in the data. Pertinent data relating to each code
should be combined together.
41. · Stage 3: This stage allows the researcher to start the search for
themes via analysis and a review of the codes. This stage is also
designed to better understand those responses that can be
developed into acceptable themes.
· Stage 4: Reviewing and refining the themes and determining if
there are any of them that need to be removed, combined, or if
they can be broken down into additional themes.
· Stage 5: Define and name the themes after refining them.
· Phase 6: Generate the final report by the researcher.
Once the researcher is familiar with the data by reading through
the data and looking for patterns, a detailed description of the
phenomenon from the synthesis of the data will be developed.

A. De Luca, Blosnich, Hentschel, King, & Amen (2016). The
authors indicate that mental health has emerged as one of the
critical areas of focus in recent times, and for a long time, it
had been sidelined. However, with the realization that most
health conditions are related in one way or another to a mental
disorder, this area is now been studied extensively, and more
attention has been given to patients.

reiterated the necessity for providers to possess the skills
required for managing patients at lower suicide risk levels,
especially in settings in which such patients do not enough
access to behavioral healthcare providers and that the providers
need to be accustomed to suicide risk, especially when there are
widely publicized high-profile instances of suicide.

C. According to Kohn, et. al, (2018), emphasize the gap in
mental health treatment in the American Region when examined
through the prevalence of mental health disorders, use of mental
health services, and the global burden of disease. Statistical
data from community-based surveys of mental disorders in the
various countries in America including Argentina, Brazil,
Canada, Chile, and the United States etc. were utilized. The
World Mental Health Survey published data were used in
estimating professional the treatment gap. For Canada, Chile,
and Guatemala, the treatment gap was calculated from data
files. The mean, median, and weighted treatment gap, and the
12-month prevalence by severity and category of mental
disorder were estimated for the general adult, child-adolescent,
and indigenous populations. Disability-adjusted Life Years and
Years Lived with Disability were calculated from the Global
Burden of Disease study. Mental and substance use disorders
accounted for 10.5% of the global burden of disease in the
Americas (Kohn, Ali, Puac-Polanco, Figueroa, López-Soto,
Morgan, & Vicente, 2018).
D. Wang, & Xie, (2019) Emphasizes the need to eliminate the
prevalence of mental health service utilization among many
adults in the United States. The authors examined the links
between mental health service utilization, health insurance
coverage, mental health problems and drug abuse, and the
health disparities among communities. In 2013. the authors in
conjunction with the National Survey on Drug Use and Health
performed a research with 37,424 adults’ respondents, with the
outcome that only 5,434 adults were receiving mental health
services. The outcome of the research indicated statistics of
overall prevalence of mental health services utilization to be
around 15%, with the female and the aging population
experiencing major depressive episodes, serious psychological
51. distress, and illicit drug or alcohol abuse/dependence were
positively associated with mental health service use. Insured
African Americans, Asians and Hispanics, and married were
negatively associated with mental health service utilization.
Adults with varying types of insurances having disparities in

Introduction
Mental health is a major issue around the World. The United
Nations (UN, 2015) has identified the issue as one of its
Sustainable Development Goals. These are a collection of goals
designed globally that aim to achieve a sustainable future for
all. The UN expressed its uncertainty regarding the extent to
which major social determinants of mental disorders are being
addressed worldwide (WHO, 2015). Developing a conceptual
framework will address the social determinants and align it with
its sustainable development goals. This way it can
systematically review the pieces of evidence about the social
determinants and identify potential mechanisms and targets for
interventions (Lund, et al. 2018). According to the Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA),
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the
58. U.S. Department of Justice, millions of people suffer from
mental illness in this country. The high numbers necessitate
raising public awareness and start campaigning for a much
better health care system (Hamilton.et al. 2016). According to
the National Alliance on Mental Health (2019), 47.6 million
people in the U.S. experienced signs of a mental illness in 2018.
This amounts to one in every five adults. Roughly 11.4 million
Adults between the ages of 25 and 35 had an episode of serious
mental illness that same year. In 2016, 7.7 million young people
between the ages of 6 and 17 experienced some sort of mental
health disorder, while 9.2 million people were reported to have
experienced a substance use disorder (National Alliance on
Mental Illness, 2019).
According to Kohn, et al. (2018), there is an emphasis on the
gap in mental health treatment in America when examined
through the prevalence of mental health disorders, the use of
mental health services, and the global burden of disease.
This issues of addressing
a lack of mental health services has not been given enough
attention, thus resulting in a wide gap in treatment. Mental
disorders in children can be corrected if detected early enough.
Unfortunately, most of the caregivers do not have the skills to
detect these disorders, which allows them to persist to the point
that it is dangerous (Kohn et al. 2018).
According to Bowdoin et al. (2018), a patient-centered medical
home (PCMH) model is designed to improve certain mental
health outcomes, while at the same time proving effective as
cost-containment. This proposed study will examine the links
between care provided that is inconsistent with the PCMH and
healthcare services utilization as well as expenditures for non-
aging citizens who are suffering from mental illness in the
59. United States. A total 6908 non-aging adults suffering from
mental illness participated in the 2007-2012 Medical
Expenditure Panel Survey. Utilization of healthcare services
was compared with expenditures on care consistent with the
PCMH, other participants include a non-PCMH, usual source of
care (USC), and participants without a USC. The outcome
showed differences in utilization and expenditures between
participants who were provided with care consistent with the
PCMH and those who had a non-PCMH. USC showed no
statistical importance for any healthcare services category. This
research study will examine the factors according to mental
health providers that influence an individuals' decision to utilize
mental health services in South Texas. This research will help
us understand why individuals choose to utilize or regject
mental health services in the state.

Background of the Problem
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(2018), mental health has become a significant public health
issue in the United States that requires immediate attention. A
mental disorder must be diagnosed at its early stages to avoid
the advance effects of it progressing into adolescence (Kohn et
al. 2018). According to Grayson (2018), there has been a
notable difference in how patients utilize mental health services
with patients that experience a high level of burden more likely
to utilize mental health services. Similarly, the caregivers that
experience serious signs of depression or anxiety in their child
61. or adolescent will tend to use the services more than the
caregivers who experience mild or no sign of depression or
anxiety. The mental health status of the caregiver is of no
significance and does not influence need and utilization
(Grayson, 2016).

63. Theoretical Foundations/Conceptual Framework and Review of
the Literature/Themes
Theoretical literature
The access to and
utilization of mental health care for the populations living in
this county has created a gap within the State (Children at Risk,
2013).
Literature Themes
Review of the literature review identified the following themes:
· Lack of proper mental health education and infrastructure has
been the major factor affecting the utilization of mental health.
Goldman et al.
· Lack of medical insurance. Research has shown that many
people due to poor economic status have left many people
without health insurance as they cannot afford it. This limits
64. many average and lower-class families from accessing mental
illness services (Children at Risk, 2013). This is another gap in
existing literature. It is important to ascertain the reality that
living in poverty face and how a lack of services prevents them
from being able to be class mobile in terms of future career
opportunities.
· The poor perception among the community members.
Researchers reveal that many people who live in this county
perceive child mental illness as a mere sign of hunger besides
poor diets. This has left many people neglecting the utilization
of mental healthcare in the community (Children at Risk, 2013).
Again, further research must be conducted to determine how
these attitudes can shift so that socio-economically
disadvantaged families can get their children access to the
critical mental health services that they need.
The theoretical model for this research gap is the Albert
Bandura, Social Cognitive Theory. The Social Cognitive
Theory: Examines the context of health promotion and disease
prevention. It helps to describe how motivations in health and
behaviors are influenced by the interaction of people's beliefs,
environment, and behaviors. It was advocated by famous
psychologists Albert Bandura (Morin, 2019). It is important to
determine the limiting factors behind individuals and families
not currently getting the mental health services that they need.
Many do no seek help due to social stigmatization, while others
simply lack any type of access in the first place. Due to a lack
of promotion in this area, many do not know where to turn and
this is causing the problem to be compounded in society from
one generation to the next.
Major components of the theory concerning individual behavior
change include:
· Self-efficacy: The belief that an individual has control over
and can execute a behavior.
· Behavioral capability: Understanding and having the skill to
perform a behavior.
· Expectations: Determining the outcomes of behavior change.
65. · Expectancy: Assigning a value to the outcomes of behavior
change.
· Self-control: Regulating and monitoring individual behavior.
· Observational learning: Watching/observing outcomes of
others' performance or modeled behavior.
· Reinforcements: Promoting incentives and rewards that
encourage behavior change (Eslami et al. 2018).

Problem Statement
The problem is that individuals across South Texas are not make
use of the mental health services that are offered to them. It is
not known how mental health providers describe the factors
influencing individual decisions to utilize mental health
services. There are increasing mental health cases among the
children in the country, indicating that much improvement in
this area is needed. This research seeks to identify the key
issues that prevent the people of this part of the state from
utilizing its mental health services and facilities.
