The characters on doodle jump are very minimalistic and
colourful. They are bright and cute looking which attracts to
females and young girls. The graph background is similar to
what kids would use at school so relates to the things they’re
used to and see everyday. I like the fact the colour scheme and
design isn’t too complicated, and I’m thinking of creating my
game with similar aspects. The pixel characters look hand
drawn, which is a child like feature but it gives the game a light-
hearted feel to it- the font is also hand drawn which works
nicely with the theme. The sound effects are subtle noises like a
pencil being dropped on the floor, or the sound of a whistle
when the character falls.
Doodle Jump is a platforming video game developed and published by Lima Sky, for Windows
Phone, iOS, BlackBerry, Android, Java Mobile (J2ME), Nokia Symbian, and Xbox 360 for the Kinect platform. It was
released worldwide for iOS on March 15, 2009, and was later released for Android and Blackberry on March 2,
2010, Symbian on May 1, 2010, and Windows Phone 7 on June 1, 2011 (Re-Released August 21, 2013 Windows
Phone 8 ). It was released for the iPad on September 1, 2011. Since its release, the game has been generally well
received. The game PapiJump by Sunflat Games inspired the gameplay of Doodle Jump, and characters featured
in Doodle Jump were based on Elise Gravel's illustrations. The game is currently available on nine platforms.

In the game, players complete levels by
swapping coloured pieces of candy on a
game board to make a match of three or
more of the same color, eliminating
those candies from the board and
replacing them with new ones, which
could potentially create further matches.
Matches of four or more candies create
unique candies that act as power-ups
with larger board-clearing abilities.
Boards have various goals that must be
completed within a fixed number of
moves or limited amount of time, such
as a certain score or collecting a specific
number of a type of candy.
The game is obviously very
colourful and bright with a bold
vibrant colour scheme. This
attracts more female audience,
as well as it being called ‘candy
crush’. The layout is different to
other game and has an up and
down perspective, there isn’t a
location or characters, which
makes it unique and appealing.

In Temple Run, the player controls either Guy
Dangerous, an explorer, Scarlett Fox, an escape
artist, Barry Bones, a city cop, Karma Lee, the
fastest runner in the Far East, Montana Smith,
the "second greatest explorer ever" (referring to
Indiana Jones being the greatest explorer;
Montana Smith even looks like him, although in
Temple Run 2 he looks more like a cowboy),
Francisco Montoya, a Spanish conquistador, or
Zack Wonder, a football star. The character
chosen will embark on an adventure to seek an
ancient and valuable golden idol from an Aztec
temple. They will not realize that the temple is
inhabited by a family of demonic monkeys who
want to devour them. As the game is an endless
running game, there is no end to the temple;
the player plays until the character collides into
a large obstacle, falls into the water or is
overtaken by the demon monkeys.
5. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have? All the existing products
I have research involve similar aspects, the games are all quite simple and easy to
carry on playing. The games are all very addictive and make you want to get a
better score each time. All the games are quite gender neutral and appeal to both
female and male, as well as being single player games. I want my game to be
played on an iphone or andriod, as doodle jump, temple run and candy crush all
seem to work best on mobile phones, and I will create my game to do the same.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? For my game, I
will be producing something that involves similar colours to candy crush, as I think
this creates a fun aspect that appeals to both female and male. I also think the
more colourful and bold, the more appealing it is to buy on the app store. I want
to make the concept of my game very similar to doodle, as the way you play the
game by moving your phone side to side is so minimalistic that it couldn’t be more
easy to play whenever you have a moment spare. However I don’t want my game
to be just like doodle jump, so I will make mine move side to side dodging the
objects instead of jumping upwards. I also think side to side is an easy concept and
if you tilt your phone side wards you can use both hands and it would feel more
steady.
7. Interview 1
• Would you like to play a game that is mainly to do with fashion and
items of clothing?
• Yes fashion really appeals to me and there isn’t many female video
games.
• Would you prefer to have a game that involves celebrity characters
or make your own duplicate of yourself characters? I would find it
more interesting if you could make your own characters.
• would you like the game to have different levels or a consistent
level of getting a higher score? I would prefer a consistent level with
higher score as I find similar games I have played like doodle jump
where you aim for a better score get you addicted to the game as
you want to get better and better.
8. Interview 1
• Observation: I think due to my feedback, my game only
applies to female audience. I don’t think this is a bad thing
however because one bit of feedback I got is that there
isn’t enough female video game.
• What this says about my audience: This says that the
audience that are female definitely would play a game of
this genre and that there isn’t enough games for this type
of audience (young girls).
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product
will appeal to this audience as its quite a creative and
varied game where you can collect pieces of clothing which
you like, its almost like online shopping without the buying
which is a quite a different idea for a game.
9. Interview 2
• Would you like to play a game that is mainly to do with fashion and
items of clothing?
• Yeah because there is a lot of customizing you can do.
• Would you prefer to have a game that involves celebrity characters
or make your own duplicate of yourself characters?
• I would like both as I would like to see my self in the game and also
use celebrities as you can see what your idols look like in your
clothes
• would you like the game to have different levels or a consistent level
of getting a higher score?
• I think that it would be better if it was a constant score so that you
can compare your score with your friends and see who can get the
highest score.
10. Interview 2
• Observation: my audience obviously like the idea of
custimizing and being able to create their own features and
applying their own ideas.
• What this says about my audience: As it was male that
answered my interview 2, I think this shows that males
would also find this game appealing as you can custimize
male characters and be interested in male fashion- it isn’t
just a game for females.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: my product
will appeal to this audience as it will have a similar aspect
to a game like doodle jump in the sense you want to get a
higher score every time, and audience like to challenge
themsleves and improve.
