This document outlines the evolution of traditional media to new media across four ages: pre-industrial, industrial, electronic, and new/information. In the pre-industrial age before 1700, early forms of media included cave paintings, clay tablets, papyrus, and the printing press using wood blocks. During the industrial age from 1700s to 1930s, developments like the printing press, newspaper, telephone, and motion pictures emerged. The electronic age from 1930s to 1980s brought transistor radio, television, mainframe computers, and personal computers. Finally, the new/information age from 1900s to 2000s has seen the rise of the internet, social media, smartphones, and digital technologies that transformed media.
