Mother's Day is celebrated in many parts of the world in March or May to honor mothers and motherhood. It began in the early 20th century in the United States and complements Father's Day, which honors fathers. While not related to older traditions that also celebrated motherhood, in some countries Mother's Day has become synonymous with traditions from ancient Greece, Rome, or Christianity.
