Discussion Questions 
1. Would you be concerned about your health if you had a job that 
required night shift hours? Why/why not? 
2. What can be done to mitigate (reduce) the negative effects that 
may accompany working at night? 
3. According to the article, what risks are associated with working 
at night? 
4. Have you ever worked or studied at night? If so, did working or 
studying at night and sleeping during the day seem to affect your 
health? 
5. How would you rank your preference shift work? Would you 
prefer 7am-3 pm, 3pm-11 pm, or 11 pm-7am? Why?
Discussion Questions 
• 1-What would you do if you were in the place of the author of this article and 
you erupted like Mount Momsuvius at your children? (Also, what does “ 
Mount Momsuvious” mean?) 
• 2-What do you think when you hear parents telling their children to stop 
crying? Do you agree with this kind of attitude? 
• 3-Can you think of any other types (not included in the article) of phrases 
that you believe care takers should not say to children? 
• 4-Do you disagree with any of the 6 things the author believes parents 
should not say to their children? 
• 5-Comparing a child with others in his/her age, can affect his/her behavior 
negatively. Do you have any suggestions on how to avoid this?
