The document outlines pitching a superhero film adaptation in class. Students will work in groups to choose a Marvel character, conduct research on the character, cast actors for the hero and villain roles, hire a director, and storyboard a trailer. The group chose Nova as their hero, casting Chris Pratt in the role. Their villain is Silver Surfer, played by Jason Statham. Edgar Wright was selected as the director due to his distinct style in superhero, action and comedy genres.

1. Pitching your own superhero film
adaptation
You are going to be working in groups of three to pitch the next superhero to appear in
the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You will be making a presentation that you will be
presenting to the rest of the class.
You will need to:
• choose one character from the selection provided;
• conduct some research and cast the lead actor to portray the hero;
• select a villain to appear in the film and also cast an actor in the role;
• conduct some research and hire a director to work on your film;
• storyboard the trailer for your film (you will need to map out the narrative – ensuring
it conforms to Todorov’s five stages).
3. Select a villain to appear in the film and also cast an
actor in the role.
• You need to select a villain from your superhero’s rogue gallery and then cast an actor to play
your character. Either use your knowledge of an existing actor from a film or television
programme or look on imdb.com. You need to make and explain your decisions based on:
• Your choice of villain:
• Why did you choose that villain? What part of their history/rivalry will you be drawing upon in your
film’s narrative? Are there particular storylines that you are going to borrow from? Is it a well known
villain and did that influence your decision?
• Your choice of actor:
• Their appearance (do they closely resemble the original character? Are they of a similar age?)
• Do they have experience in a superhero film already? What was it? How would it help with your
character?
• Have they played a similar character in a different text? How would it help with your character?
• Do they have experience in the genre/sub-genre (superhero, action, comedy, romance, etc.)? How
would it help with your character?
4. Conduct some research and hire a director to work
on your film.
• You need to select a director to record and edit your film. Either use your
knowledge of an existing director from a film or television programme or look on
imdb.com. You need to make and explain your decisions based on:
• Do they have experience in a superhero film already? What was it? How would it help
with your character?
• Have they worked with a similar character in a different text? How would it help with
your character?
• Do they have experience in the genre/sub-genre (superhero, action, comedy, romance,
etc.)? How would it help with your character?
6. It all started when Richard
rider was just a schoolboy
attending Guilsborough
school when the nova
corps were dying out.
Richard rider was the one that was
chosen for this task of filling the
empty space that would be left when
the last of the Nova Corps died.
Richard rider got all of his
powers but he got little
instructions so he would
have to figure out how to
use them by himself.
As he was trying to learn how
to use his newfound powers,
Silver Surfer was making his
way towards earth. Richard
decides his alter ego would be
‘Nova’
He is now starting to learn the
ropes with his new powers
and finds out about the
uprising threat of silver surfer
and realises he is one of the
only ones that can help.
Nova receives intel telling
him that silver surfer has
targeted London and he
makes his way their to
meet his first enemy.
When Nova arrives, the surrounding
areas of London have been so
damaged that they look like a desert
wasteland.
They meet as silver surfer
is causing havoc around
the London Eye. Silver
surfer sees Nova and
immediately recognises
the outfit.
They start heading towards
each other at their full speed
and the screen blacks out the
second they meet each other.

8. Nova was just a schoolboy when the last of the nova corps was dying, Richard rider
was chosen to replace this person. He was given the powers and uniform but very
little instructions on how to use these powers. He names himself Nova and goes on
to fight many supervillains.
Nova has powers such as he can absorb energy directed at him and shoot it back at
his enemies
We have casted Chris Pratt to play this part because he will add the comedic
element to this character but he can also be relatively serious. He is also a well
known actor so he could act as a way of attracting more people to watch the film.
He doesn’t neccisarily look the same as nova in the comic books but we still thin
that he is a good choice.
Chris Pratt has also played as superheroes before so we think he could fit this role
well.
9. VILLAIN
For our villain we have chosen silver surfer, Silver Surfer is an intergalactic super
villain that has a signature silver colour and a surf board like board which he uses to
travel at speeds faster than the speed of light. He is a worthy enemy for nova
because he has similar
We have chosen Jason Statham for this role because he is very serious and sinister
which should balance out Chris's comedic side, he is also a very popular actor so he
would also be able to attract more consumers. He also looks similar to how the
character looks in the comics
10. DIRECTOR
We have chosen Edgar Wright.
We have chosen him because he has a very distinct style in his movies, he has a lot
of Easter eggs in his films. His style also has a lot of smooth camera shots that, for
example, change the surrounding area of the main character to fit their mood.
He is also relatively well known, and people might want to watch the film for the
reason that he directed it.
He directed films such as ‘Baby Driver’, ‘Hot Fuzz’ and ‘Shaun of the Dead’
