With the broader adoption of digital technologies and AI, organisations face the emerging risks of AI, the unfamiliar, and the intensified risk of cybersecurity, the familiar. AI and cybersecurity are intertwined, but risk silos are often created when they are dealt with at the technology and governance levels. This talk will explore the interactions between responsible AI and cybersecurity risks via industry case studies. It will show how we can break down the risk silos and use emerging trust-enhancing technologies, architecture and end-to-end software engineering/DevOps practices to connect the two worlds and uplift the risk management posture for both.

The SINIC theory is a future prediction method that OMRON founder Kazuma Tateisi developed and presented at the International Future Research Conference in 1970. Announced in the midst of Japan's rapid-paced economic growth, before PCs and the Internet even existed, this theory drew a highly accurate picture of society up to the middle of the 21st century, including the appearance of the Information Society.
SINIC stands for Seed-Innovation to Need-Impetus Cyclic Evolution. According to the SINIC theory, science, technology and society share a cyclical relationship, mutually impacting and influencing each other in two distinct ways. In one direction, scientific breakthroughs yield new technologies that help society to advance. In the other direction, social needs spur on technological development and expectations for new scientific advancement. Thus, both of these factors affect each other in a cyclical manner, propelling further social evolution.

Abstract: ChatGPT, and more broadly AI Transformers, has put the cat among the pigeons over recent months. Institutions are looking at different ways to provide the best possible advice to our staff and students. There is now consistent agreement, there can potentially be very positive outcomes for both students and staff, but we first need to understand this as a community. The theme of the ACODE 88 Meeting 2 March 2023 was ‘Embracing AI for student and staff productivity’. As this workshop we had some 200 participants; Director of TEL, Managers and Educational Designers, all bringing perspectives from their own institutions, to benchmark and understand were we stand on this complex, but exciting issue. As an output from this workshop, ACODE have developed a White paper, to help provide the sector with a way forward, one developed together.
