The children who have ever been deprived of food know the real meaning of hunger. It’s our time to be the light in their lives by donating to children’s charity. This way we are doing our bit for the ones who will shape the future of our country.

This is Catalyst's overview of how you can start making positive changes in your school to support healthy eating.
Here's what the presentation covers:
First we’ll talk a little bit about why we need healthy food in schools, and what the food is like at our schools.
Then we’re are going to break for two rounds of Catalyst’s “Family Food.” It’s like the game show Family Feud, but all about food, healthy eating, and what food is like at school. We’ve been talking with students at our schools to get their thoughts about food in general and about the food that’s offered at school, and in this game, you’ll have a chance to guess what they’re thinking.
We also want to talk about what we can do to get things moving in our schools and make sure we have healthy options that taste good. So first we’ll talk a little about questions you might get from your principal and food service staff if you talk to them about starting to make changes.
Then we’ll work in small groups and plan out some first steps you can take, like setting up a meeting to talk to your principal and food service staff.

3. Our Big Goal
More than 12 million children in the U.S live in “food insecure”
homes, this meaning that there is not enough food in their
household to provide the children with a nutritious meal. S.O.S for
Youth Hunger has a mission that no kid shall go to bed hungry. Our
plan would be to solicit the help of grocery stores and collect
reusable shopping bags so that we would be able to fill them with
healthy foods and give them to students, no matter the grade level,
so that they will have the energy needed to stay focused.
4. Our Research
•16 million children struggle with hunger
•1 of 7 children go hungry all around the world
•16.2 million kids lack nutritious food
•The cause for hunger is mainly poverty and lack of financial
resources at both national and local levels
•children are at higher risk for health conditions and are more likely
to be hospitalized
5. Passionate
“ I feel passionate about hunger
because if I was in that situation,
unfortunate and didn’t have food I
would dream and hope there is
someone out trying to help. For
example, us, you, me, everyone in this
room. Doing projects, fundraisers to
help kids who are from low income
families and don’t have the expense
for food. It reminds me of this old
saying,
Treat others like you would want to be
treated and great things will come
your way.”
6. Our Vision
● Our vision for S.O.S. is to help kids with low income
families or kids who are affected by other circumstances
that prevent them from having good food to be able to get
the daily nutrients that come from having 3 meals a day.
● We want kids going home with food for dinner that night
and breakfast for the next morning. That way they don’t go
to bed hungry and they come to school with the fuel needed
for the days learning.
7. Our Action Plan
● Give students from low income families a reusable bag full of
food to go home with every day
● They bring the bag back again the next day to get more food
● To find volunteers we would put up posters around the town
asking for help or announce that we need the help at schools
and other businesses
● We would make a S. O. S. Club at the schools that we would
work at and the club would give the food to the students in
need
8. ● We plan on advertising by going to stores and other businesses
asking for donations. Along with asking family members, churches,
or other organizations we are involved with to help us and our
cause.
● If we run out of food we can use donated money to help buy more,
or collect more donations with extra food drives.
● We will ask local farmers for donations of produce, or help through
community gardens for more food.
● We could put out boxes at stores for collection.
9. Partnering with Schools
● To partner with schools it will be important to
communicate with the faculty.
● First to get permission from the school board
and the principal of each school.
● It will also be important to talk to the
teachers, counselors, and nurses to find
ways to best help hungry students.
● Spreading the word through flyers and P.A.
announcements will help gain more
donations from families that have food to
share.
10. Partnering with Local Food Banks and
Pantries
We felt it would be important to add Food Banks and Pantries in our
presentation because we could use some of the tactics they use to
get food and donations to make our mission more successful. We
would contact our local Food Banks/Pantries such as Arlington
Food Assistance Center(AFAC), Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry and
Northern Illinois Food Bank to see if they would be willing to share
some of the methods they use so all of us can work the best we
can to solve the universal problem of hunger.
11. Possible Non-Profit Partner Organizations
● My House Homeless Youth Center - Alaska
● Fresh Future Farms - South Carolina
● Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts - Ohio, Virginia, Alaska
● Iron Mountain FFA - Alaska
● United Way
● Salvation Army
● Lansing Food Pantry- Illinois
● American Legion
● Local Rotary Clubs
● Local Churches and Schools
12. Other Possible Partner Organizations
● Aldi
As food is often wasted by stores for reasons such as damaged
packaging and the like, we believe that working with these
companies, we can use that previously wasted food. Working with
these businesses we could also get connections to be able to
gather the reusable bags we would need. This could give the
children an effective way to get the food home, while also
advertising the companies and helping the environment.
● Safeway ● Walmart
● Other Local Grocery Services
13. Implementing S. O. S.
● S.O.S. Clubs would be started in the school to help with the
process of filling bags, fundraising, and collecting donations.
● In the morning before class starts students will bring their
empty bags from the night before and put them in a box in the
office.
● The S.O.S. Club would fill the bags with food.
● At the end of the day students receiving food would go to the
principal’s or the nurse’s office to get their bags.
Our way of battling against youth Hunger is to give low income students a reusable bag with food for dinner and a small thing for breakfast. Once the student gets a bag, they bring it back for another meal.
