Jim Heppelmann, President & CEO, PTC
A talk from Inspire Track at AWE USA 2017 - the largest conference for AR+VR in Santa Clara, California May 31- June 2, 2017.
Jim Heppelmann, CEO of PTC, and Professor Michael Porter of the Harvard Business School, collaborated on a multi-year research project to define the impact of Augmented Reality (AR) in the enterprise. Their previous research, published in two Harvard Business Review articles, defines how the IoT transforms competition and companies. Today, IoT and digital transformation initiatives multiply the volume and variety of data, but the means by which humans interact with this data has not kept pace. This visionary and research driven keynote by Jim Heppelmann explains how AR is enabling humans, across every function in the enterprise, to make better decisions faster.

Architects and Designers do understand the principles of design. While delving on Requirements without paying heed to the needs to identify latent needs is a challenge
Distribution Automation - Emerging Trends and Challenges Providing an overview of challenges, further providing a detail by introducing IEC 61850 standard and finally concluding by discussing the need of a maker approach or workshops thus enabling better skills and development at institutions.
Software Architecture and the role of the Architect has been discussed and deliberated in detail. Architecture still plays major role in success of projects. While the fundamentals remain strong, how architects can contribute in teams success while in agile is an ongoing journey. As the team member endowed with skills and wisdom acquired over the experience frame, we argue Architects are best positioned to prepare a road-map of architectural aspects and participate in planning together with product owners and release owners thus enabling a more meaningful planning and guidance system. Based on Risk and Cost Based Architecture concept by Eltjo Poort and based on CAFFEA framework by Jan Bosch and team, we applied it in projects which led to seeing it as a six stepped approach described in the slides.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

9. A Lifecycle approach
Human and Machine| Handling Uncertainty
October 21, 2018
The idea is to provide the same level of digital support to the industrial worker as has been available to office workers for
years.Slide 9
Lifecycle oriented considerations
– Planning, Modeling and Simulation, Continuous
Verification and Validation
– Cyber Security Common Architecture & Assurance
– Analysis of Quality using Visualization
Digital Twin
– Design and Configuration on twin
– Continuously learn and Improve
– Ensuring availability & reliability - condition monitoring
and advanced services

10. A Step by Step approach
Human and Machine| The Quest for Autonomy
October 21, 2018 Slide 10
Automation systems
– Can sense, analyze and act, within defined scenarios.
Autonomous systems
Need to be adaptable while staying predictable or
deterministic or explainable. They need to possess major
Artificial Intelligence Capabilities which involve:
– Perceive
– Understand
– Solve
More close to normal in robotic applications. In many other
areas, like in power plants where Human Factors play a
major role , a step wise approach, with these systems
working with humans and gaining confidence is essential.
Working with Startups through ABB Technology Ventures.

11. Human and the Machine
Human and Machine| Towards a truly beneficial relationship
October 21, 2018 Slide 11
– Human
• Creative
• Compliant
• Attentive to change
• Resourceful
• Decisions based on many factors
– Machine
• Logical and Consistent
• Can be precise
• Orderly
• Not distracted
