Abstract: Cloud Computing has had phenomenal growth over the past year and continues to entrench itself in all facets of IT. Cloud Computing is definitely more than just a buzz word or a passing trend. Now the heavy weights like IBM, HP and SAP are ready lock horns with existing players like Amazon, Salesforce and Microsoft whose offerings have matured over a period of time. Besides these big players, a lot of start ups are coming up with innovative offerings in this space.
The talk is about the current state of affairs in the cloud computing. It will cover the products, services and offerings that have been making a lot of noise in the cloud computing space.
Following are the main points that will be covered in the talk:
1. New Players: A lot of enterprise market giants are now coming to the cloud party offering infrastructure and platform services. IBM has come out with its SmartCloud for private as well as public clouds. Oracle has released its Cloud-in-a-box solution. The talk will cover all the new offerings by these enterprise giants.
2. Old Players, New offerings – Amazon being the leader in the Cloud Infrastructure space has rolled out a lot of new products and services, strengthening its hold in the market and expanding into the PaaS segment. Amazon Beanstalk, Amazon CloudFormation and EC2 Dedicated instances most notably have the power to be game changers. SalesForce the leader in the Cloud SaaS space released database.com, enterprise cloud database and its “PaaS” offering similar to GAE – VMforce.com This section will cover the new offerings by the players.
3 .Interesting Players in the cloud ecosystem: There have been a lot of new players who are leveraging the cloud to build some exciting products like Scalable API platforms, Cloud-based logging, Java in the Cloud. etc eg. Apigee, PiCloud, Loggly,Cumulogic, Cloudbees being some of them. This section will cover most of the exciting platforms and technologies these companies are working on.
4. Current Trends and Future: This section will cover the current trends(where a lot of startups are investing in) and how the future will look like in the cloud space.
Finally, the talk plans to “arm” developers and architects with the latest and cutting edge platforms, products and technologies in the cloud that have been developed and made available over the last year, helping them to leverage the cloud and make better choices leading to higher ROI and lesser TCO.

Heka is a tool that can be used to intake, process, and output all these types of data using a single pipeline. David de Boer presented on his work with Planidoo, an event organization platform built using Zotonic and other technologies. The current architecture uses two separate APIs and data stacks that interconnect data between Zotonic and other services like Elasticsearch. De Boer discussed potential solutions to streamline the architecture including using Elasticsearch as a single data source or rebuilding the system entirely in Erlang. He also emphasized the importance of building community around new projects through stability, documentation, and approachability.

From 1999 to 2013 Bart worked at Global Crossing (acquired by Level 3 in 2011), where he developed staffing, systems and business processes for Global Crossing’s European brand new sales team, built and coached a Wholesale Sales team to sign new telecom customers and grow revenues in various countries across Europe, led Global Crossing’s expansion into Central and Eastern Europe and established Level 3’s position in the Benelux broadcast market.
Samer Abdel-Hafez joined the FiberRing network team in December 2013 as Network Design Engineer. Samer’s responsibilities within the team include planning capacity for the large traffic volume of FiberRing, arranging interconnections in new locations and markets, designing advanced ad-hoc solutions for the FiberRing network and customers and advise the Network support team on day to day issues.
Abstract: FiberRing operates one of the largest content networks in the world, peaking at over 2 Tb/s. In order to facilitate troubleshooting, detect attacks and saving important data as router configurations, we implement a series of tools mostly implemented in house or open source.
The key point of this presentation is to describe how FiberRing is using these tools for:
monitoring: FiberRing makes extensive use of Opsview (Nagios) and NMIS. We utilise Opsview for alerts and reporting and NMIS for detailed traffic analysis.
capacity planning: FiberRing choose PMACCT as netflow collector software and implemented an in house front-end solution that helps us locate strategic peering partners and explore ways to reduce the costs to deliver our content.
DDOS attacks detection: As every large hosting provider, we are regularly target of DDoS attacks. We implement a set of linux boxes running running nfcapd to collect traffic flows with 1 minute/per host granularity. This gives us great flexibility and incredibly valuable data to quick detect attacks and take corrective actions.
routers’ configuration backups: FiberRing is actively involved in the development of Oxidized, an innovative configuration backup tool which poses itself as rancid replacement.

Security Onion is a Linux distribution for intrusion detection and network security monitoring. It includes tools like Snort, Suricata, Bro, and the ELK stack for collecting, storing, and visualizing logs and security events. Security Onion offers high performance monitoring using technologies like PF_RING and stores data in Elasticsearch for querying and analysis using Kibana. It can integrate data from network and host agents that register with the Security Onion manager.

Security Onion is a Linux distribution for intrusion detection and network security monitoring. OpenDaylight is an exciting new community-led, open source project focused on accelerating adoption of software-defined networking (SDN) by providing a robust SDN platform on which the industry can build and innovate. An OpenDaylight controller provides flexible management of both physical and virtual networks. The open source nature of the project and its flexible network management capabilities make it an ideal SDN platform to integrate with Neutron.
In this session, OpenDaylight community members from Cisco, IBM, RedHat, and Ericsson will describe the OpenDaylight project goals and platform architecture, as well as the roadmap and progress to date. OpenDaylight brings together a number of virtual networking approaches, and we will discuss integration approaches with OpenStack Neutron that provide flexibility for OpenStack administrators and users. Details of our initial Neutron integration will also be demonstrated for attendees.
Attendees will leave this session with a greater understanding of what OpenDaylight is, and how it can integrate with OpenStack Neutron to provide a powerful SDN-based networking solution for OpenStack Clouds.

DublinJS: Titanium & Alloy
Rene Pot gave a presentation on cross-platform mobile app development with Titanium and Alloy. He discussed that Titanium is a cross-platform JavaScript SDK that allows building native mobile apps. The Alloy MVC framework provides separation of concerns, garbage collection, theming and extensibility. Titanium offers easier maintenance than other frameworks and better support for native elements. It has many official modules and an open source codebase. Rene also mentioned upcoming support for VueJS and Angular in Titanium.

Join this session to learn how to prepare for difficult conversations and how to improve our agile conversations in order to be more influential without power.
