- Cool Australia is an award winning, not-for-profit that helps educators provide real-life learning opportunities for their children through sustainability education.
- Learning for life is about equipping our children with the skills and understandings they’ll need in the 21st Century. It is hands-on, experiential learning that involves problem finding and problem solving, nature play and real-world applications.
- Cool Australia’s coolest partner is Bendigo Bank. They help all of this happen.
- Cool Australia helps early childhood educators and services in three different ways: Curriculum – units of work, lesson plans and digital libraries Professional development – helping to build confidence and skills Enviroweek – a national education movement that celebrates young people taking action

- These resources are available for early childhood educators as well as primary and secondary teachers.

- Here are a few things to know before you explore the website.
- Here’s the front page of the website. If you click ‘Teacher’, you can see the units and lesson plans. If you click ‘Student’ you will see the resources in the digital library.
- You can filter the resources by whole units of work or individual activities and lesson plans…
- … by early learning in the ‘Year Level’ section ...
- … by the topics that you want to focus on …
- … or you can search for keywords.
- You will notice that Cool Australia works with a range of partners to create curriculum for events, competitions, books and films.
- All of Cool Australia’s curriculum is written by educators for educators, using a range of pedagogy and teaching styles.
- And everything is mapped to the Early Years Learning Framework.
- The resources contain activities for each age group.
- Click ‘Register’ in the top right hand corner. Everything is free to access.
- Check out the Toolbox area too, that contains resources to support learning.

- In 2014, the Australian Education for Sustainability Alliance’s (AESA) conducted research with 5,000 Aussie educators. Here’s what they found out… 90% (9 out of 10) of teachers said that they thought sustainability was important and should be part of the curriculum BUT 80% (8 out of 10) of teachers said that they didn’t know how to teach sustainability confidentally. - Cool Australia has partnered with Teacher Training Australia (TTA) to address this need and provide online professional development to teachers across the country.
- All Cool Australia’s courses are mapped to the AITSL Professional Standards for Teachers. They are also accredited with state education departments.
- Cool Australia’s professional development can be accessed anywhere, anytime. Learn at your own pace and use practical activities to give things a go in the classroom. You can also meet other teachers from across Australia.

- Here’s another website to explore. Cool Australia also organizes a national education week called Enviroweek. It’s all about empowering kids to celebrate the impact they’re making in their world. So far there are over 250,000 young Aussies participating in Enviroweek this year.
- Enviroweek is on from August 30th to September 5th 2015.
- Here’s how it works… your whole service or a learning room registers for free. They take action in Terms 2 and 3. They showcase their action on the Enviroweek website. Then they celebrate during Enviroweek. If the Enviroweek dates don’t work for your service, you can choose a time that suits you better.
- You can use Enviroweek to celebrate something you’re already doing or try something new.
- There are heaps of prizes and awards up for grabs including solar panels, EcoStore products, vegetable garden seeds and recycling stations.
- The Enviroweek website provides lots of support - like ‘How To’ guides and lesson plans.
- You can also learn from others through the Participant profiles and case studies.
