The slide deck discusses how to rapidly build rapport and influence through verbal and non-verbal communication techniques. It notes that over 50% of communication is non-verbal and suggests mirroring another's tones, pacing, and body language to build unconscious trust and lower barriers. Specific techniques are demonstrated like verbal mirroring, matching, and physical mirroring that can increase communication effectiveness 5-10x. The source material comes from neuro-linguistic programming and Virginia Satir's change model.
The document is a slide deck about creating influence and building rapport. It discusses how non-verbal communication like tone of voice and body language account for over 90% of communication effectiveness. Building rapport by mirroring another's speech patterns can increase communication effectiveness up to 5 times by overcoming unconscious barriers. The deck traces the concepts back to origins in neuro-linguistic programming and provides resources for further learning.
The document is a slide deck presentation given by Bernie Maloney to the Technology Management Council in Silicon Valley on June 7, 2012 about creating influence through verbal communication techniques. The presentation discusses how non-verbal elements like tone, pitch and tempo account for over 50% of communication effectiveness and how mirroring another's communication patterns can build rapport and lower unconscious barriers. It provides examples of how these verbal techniques can be applied in technology teams and outlines the neuro-linguistic programming principles behind rapid rapport building.
The document is a slide deck presentation about building rapport quickly through verbal communication techniques. It discusses how the first 60 seconds of an interaction matter in forming impressions and bias. It then explains how tone, pitch, tempo, timbre and volume account for over 35% of communication effectiveness. The presentation demonstrates mirroring techniques like matching tone, pace and body language to build rapport and lower unconscious barriers between people.

Most questions we receive are requests for something our student or colleague is missing. But questions themselves can be repatterned and used for so much more than a direct answer. WIth a series of exercises, this session introduces facilitation skills & techniques that enable a teacher to use questions to restructure a student’s thinking, and therefore their experience, opening a path for a student to discover an answer for themselves.
In this workshop, you can learn how to influence your colleagues and students to think “outside the box” powerfully leading them beyond their conscious mind to tap into their unconscious & find an answer within their question.
Ever feel like the market moves faster than your marketing team? Or wonder how flexible your finance (and leadership!) teams would really be if self-direction glitched and blew a million dollars? Organizations introduce Agile believing it will lead in part to greater responsiveness and resiliency. Yet, why do so many fail to achieve those outcomes?
It isn’t just that they’re structured and operated by default along hierarchical lines rather than by design for iterative work. Achieving the full benefits of Agile comes from shifting the culture and mindset of a whole organization, sometimes as radically as encouraging it to “Make New Mistakes.” This very philosophy was a driver in the fastest division in HP’s history to reach $1B, a hardware division that was focused on manufacturing operations with razor thin margins, and markets that changed 3x faster than the development lead time.
Through a series of short stories and exercises, attendees will explore 5 practices from that business which led to roaring success. We’ll probe their parallels in Lean / Agile practice. With each one, you’ll briefly self-inspect the state of your own organization, as well as create a backlog you can use to adapt in your “real world” beyond the conference.
Do you have, or want, a vision that takes you beyond high performing teams, to a high performing, resilient business? Come hear how you can help your organization shift from mechanics that “do” Agile, and walk away with a feel for what’s possible when not just development but a whole organization surfs the flow of “being” Agile.
Shu Ha Ri - Creating Your Agile Coaching JourneyBernie Maloney
Agile Alliance 2017: Tired of learning your Coaching craft by trial and luck? Many of us begin and emerge as coaches through kismet and fortune, rather than with clear goals for learning and acceptance criteria for progressing in the craft. Instead, why not apply Agile techniques and use Inspect and Adapt to groom a path to guide your learning as an Agile Coach?
In this interactive session, you won’t merely sit and listen; you’ll learn both WITH and FROM other participants. We’ll start by building a learning ‘backlog’ for coaches. Through 3 brief scenarios of increasing complexity, self-organized table-teams will examine what a coach would need to learn in order to be prepared to thrive in that stage. With each scenario, we’ll hold a group ‘demo’ of the topics, techniques, skills and resources for a coach’s learning at that stage.
What Did They *Really* Want? Bottom Line Impacts of Customer CollaborationBernie Maloney
The document discusses bottom line impacts of customer collaboration. It notes that while estimated units may drop with batch-based delivery, earlier shipments and less work-in-progress results in rework/bugs as a percentage of shipments dropping from 50% to 29%. Acceptable units shipped also rises 2-5 times. Samples from both external clients and internal teams show estimated units, acceptable units, bugs, and work-in-progress levels improving with batch-based delivery approaches. The document emphasizes that doing agile appears easy but being truly agile takes discipline and courage.
This document discusses business modeling and the lean startup methodology. It emphasizes that business plans often fail upon first contact with customers and that planning is not as important as taking action, validating assumptions, and iterating based on customer feedback. The business model canvas is presented as a tool to visualize a business model and its key elements in a simple format. The document advocates testing business model hypotheses through minimum viable products and customer experimentation to determine product-market fit. It stresses the importance of failing often through iterative experimentation in order to learn and succeed more quickly.
Agile at Enterprise Scale: The Tricky BitsBernie Maloney
Agile thrives with individual teams, yet even Ken Schwaber asserts 75% of organizations using scrum won't succeed in getting the benefits they hope for from it. Many such organizations have been structured by default along hierarchical lines, rather than by design for iterative work. A set of established and emerging ideas to address organizational impediments point to a future where Agile introductions Go Big, rather than Go Home.
The document discusses creating influence on demand through effective communication. It explains that communication is comprised of 55% physiology, 38% tonality, and 7% words. Mirroring another's verbal and physical behaviors can build rapport and lower unconscious barriers, increasing communication effectiveness up to 5 times. Practicing techniques like verbal mirroring, matching, pacing and leading with a partner can provide insights into non-verbal communication cues and their impact.
The document provides an overview of agile frameworks and concepts. It discusses different agile methods like Scrum, XP, and Kanban. It introduces the Stacey Matrix which plots projects based on uncertainty and complexity. The matrix shows what types of decision mechanisms and practices are best for different types of projects. The document also discusses applying the right agile framework based on a project's needs. Finally, it uses the metaphor of surfing to illustrate planning for emerging requirements and managing uncertainty over multiple iterations.
The document appears to be a slide deck presentation about creating influence through rapid rapport techniques. Some key points:
- Rapid rapport can increase communication effectiveness up to 5 times by matching verbal behaviors like tone, pitch, tempo and vocabulary.
- Building rapport lowers unconscious barriers and triggers confirmation bias, influencing how people perceive you in the first 60 seconds.
- Demonstrations of verbal mirroring and matching techniques are used to build rapport.
- The approach is based on principles of neuro-linguistic programming and using similarities in verbal and non-verbal communication to connect with others.
This slide deck discusses how to create influence through effective communication. It notes that only 7% of communication is based on words, while 38% is based on tonality and 55% on physiological factors like body language. It teaches how to build rapport by mirroring another's tonality, pace, and other verbal behaviors. This technique lowers unconscious barriers and can increase communication effectiveness up to 5-10x. The approach is based on principles of neuro-linguistic programming, which holds that mirroring builds rapport by signaling understanding on unconscious levels.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
