   Good advance warning at each end is essential.
   Advance warning of each main work site is necessary.
   Consistent regulatory speed limit is necessary – 40km/h
   More consistent delineation – lines and cones.
   Clearer messages on signs about what is ahead
   All workers to wear safety vests.

When I looked at this photo I saw a family travelling with their
little girl. She has her Mickey Mouse bag. She could be an
Indonesian girl or an Australian girl – and she deserves
protection. She is at risk here! We must do better in road works

          South Gippsland Highway, Victoria
Large water pipe was to be placed under a rural highway

Approx 8,000vpd, 100km/h speed limit

A side track was decided

Farm land was purchased – to be sold back to the farmer later

Careful planning went into the entire task.

I audited the work – twice!

The side track was to last for less than one week (in fact it
lasted 4 days)

This example is not to show that all road works in Australia are
great and wonderful.

Nor is it to expect Indonesia to spend $500,000 at each large
road work site.

But it does stress:
        - work sites are important

       - careful planning.

       - attention to safety

       - prevention rather than cure

When the work was ended, the asphalt was recycled and
reused. The land was sold back to the farmer.

But it does stress: - work sites are important - careful planning. - attention to safety - prevention rather than cure When the work was ended, the asphalt was recycled and reused. The land was sold back to the farmer.
