2. Dear Salt Lake Chamber Members,
Over the past year, Utah has continued to solidify its position as an economic leader. Years of
consistent, prudent decision-making and our entrepreneurial spirit have driven economic growth,
reduced our level of unemployment and moved us to the head of the class. Utah is leading the
nation into more prosperous times.
As Utah’s largest and longest-serving business association, we continued to provide economic
leadership throughout our state. We have enhanced business-strengthening programs to make
membership in the Chamber even more valuable, and to help us achieve our mission to stand as
the voice of business, support our members’ success and champion community prosperity.
We continued our efforts to strengthen the Utah economy by supporting policies that help
businesses thrive. We fought for a greater investment in our state’s future workforce through
the Prosperity 2020 movement. We strengthened Utah’s health system, sustained investment
in transportation and enhanced community prosperity through innovation. We will continue to
provide leadership on the issues facing our state.
As a valued member of Utah’s largest and longest-serving business association, you play an
integral role in helping business succeed. Together, we provide a new and better brand of
business leadership on a statewide level. Not alone in this work, we embrace and advance
the Downtown Alliance and World Trade Center Utah as our strategic partners. We have also
formalized relationships with chambers of commerce across the state and internationally.
This annual report presents our budget, outlines many of our accomplishments and highlights
our leadership. If you are a member of the Salt Lake Chamber, thank you for your support. If you
are not a member, now is a great time to join.
Sincerely,
Lane Beattie, President and CEO Ray Pickup, Chair

To Senators Hatch and Lee, and Congressmen Bishop, Stewart, Chaffetz and Matheson:
T
ogether our organizations represent thousands of businesses, both large and
small, from all sectors of the economy. Our members span the spectrum of
Utah’s economic community. We support the final passage of S. 744, the
Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013 in
the Senate and comparable comprehensive reform efforts in the House.
America’simmigrationsystemisbrokenandfailstomeettheneedsofUtahbusinesses.
Improvements are long overdue and essential to continued economic growth for our
state. We applaud the efforts of the bipartisan “Gang of Eight” for their initiative, as
well as Utah’s own senior senator, Orrin Hatch, for his leadership on this issue.
Sen. Hatch has championed the workforce need for highly skilled employees. His
amendment to improve the legislation by increasing H-1B visas, while providing
more resources for STEM education in the United States will prepare Utah students
to fill the jobs of tomorrow. We know our national ability to compete in the global
economy depends on improving science, technology, engineering, math (STEM),
as well as computer science education. We strongly support Sen. Hatch’s bipartisan,
broad-based STEM education amendment, adopted as part of the Senate Judiciary
Committee’s final bill.
Business stands united in support of comprehensive immigration reform in the 113th

The Salt Lake Chamber is proud to work with Inspire STEM USA, a coalition of organizations,
companies and leaders supportive of a two-part plan to address immigration and workforce
development needs and improve our STEM education pipeline. The plan closes the STEM jobs gap
today and ensures the United States remains competitive by producing more college graduates with
engineering and computer science degrees. Learn more at inspirestemusa.org.
