Executive Summary Technology Executives More Upbeat Two thirds (67%) of senior global technology executives are more confident about prospects for the sector over the next 12 months, according to our latest annual IT confidence survey. Last year just 13% were more optimistic about prospects with almost half (48%) less confident facing into 2009. 43% believe that the global recession has bottomed out although almost a third (32%) believe it has not. A quarter (25%) are not sure. 48% of the respondents do not believe that the recession is over in their own country although over a third (36%) believe that the worst is past. The Eurocom Worldwide findings suggest better news on the IT jobs front. Over half (57%) expect to increase employment this year compared to 28% last year. 8% expect to reduce headcount compared to a quarter last year. IT executives are also more confident about sales prospects. Three quarters (75%) expect to increase revenues, up from 46% last year. Last year almost a quarter (22%) predicted a decline in sales, compared to just 6% in 2010. 01 Copyright 2010 Eurocom Worldwide
Executive Summary (contd.) Social Media The rise of social media continues with almost half (45%) of those surveyed expecting to increase their budget on social media over the next 12 months. However, tech firms seem to be a little undecided on corporate blogging The Eurocom survey finds that just over a third (37%) of technology companies surveyed have a corporate blog, little change from last year (33%). The major barrier to corporate blogging is that it is too time consuming, cited by 39% of respondents. Almost a third (32%) don’t see the value of it. 56% of those who blog do so to improve interaction with customers. Over a third (34%) blog to raise profile and thought leadership. Almost 40% of technology companies check out potential employees’ profiles on social media sites such Facebook or LinkedIn. So good career advice is to think twice before you post those holiday or party photos online! PR continues to be seen as the best value for money in terms of marketing communications spend (Page 18) along with Internet marketing. Eurocom Worldwide would like to sincerely thank all those who responded to this year’s survey. 02 Copyright 2010 Eurocom Worldwide
