IREX has been administering access to information and internet programs since the early 90s, but the approach to these programs made them different from anything we’ve done before. An investigation into public library outreach to the homeless
Rebecca Broadley conducted research into public library outreach projects aimed at homeless people in Yorkshire. She analyzed case studies of four previous outreach projects and interviewed six librarians to identify common themes, problems, barriers, solutions, and recommendations. Her results showed that developing partnerships, removing ID requirements, sharing ideas and reports, and providing sustainable outreach through low-cost projects and mobile library stops were effective strategies. She recommends libraries train staff, build trust with homeless populations, adapt services to specific needs, and combine qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods.

An investigation into public library outreach to the homeless
Rebecca Broadley conducted research into public library outreach projects aimed at homeless people in Yorkshire. She analyzed case studies of four previous outreach projects and interviewed six librarians to identify common themes, problems, barriers, solutions, and recommendations. Her results showed that developing partnerships, removing ID requirements, sharing ideas and reports, and providing sustainable outreach through low-cost projects and mobile library stops were effective strategies. She recommends libraries train staff, build trust with homeless populations, adapt services to specific needs, and combine qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods.
