born?
• Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919.
• He was born in a small old farm house in Cairo, Georgia.
Early Life
• Jackie was the youngest of five children.
• His father left the family shortly after he was
born.
• When he was one his family moved to Pasadena,
California.
• Jackie loved to play games and sports and he would usually win.
• The Robinson’s were the only black family that lived on Pepper Street.
Neighbors would curse and throw rocks at them.
Education
• For elementary school Jackie went to Killian
Elementary.
• At John Muir Technical High School he was an
average student but an outstanding athlete.
• He started college at Pasadena Junior College
then went to UCLA where he started in four sports.
Adult LifeCareer
• In 1940 at UCLA Jackie met his future wife Rachel
Isum.
• In 1942 he was drafted into the Army.
• After leaving the Army Jackie played baseball in
The negro leagues.
• In 1945 he met Branch Rickey and was recruited
to play for the Royals a minor league team.
• In 1946 he was married and went on to have 3
children.
• On April 10, 1947 he signed with the Brooklyn
Dodgers where he played for the next nine years.
• He retired and took a job with Chock Full O’Nuts restaurants.
Accomplishments
• Jackie had many accomplishments here are some.
• He won the Rookie Of The year award in 1947.
• He also won the National League Most Valuable
Player award in 1949.
• He won six National League pennants with the
Dodgers and won the World Series in 1955.
• In 1962 he was the first African-American inducted into the Hall of Fame.

• Being the first African –American player in Major
League Baseball was an important step toward equal
rights.
• Jackie has been credited for breaking the Color
Barrier.
Date and cause of death
• Jackie battled with type one Diabetes.
• A heart attack eventually took his life on October 24,1972.
• He was just 53 years old.
