2 Samuel 12.1-14 Accountable Second Baptist Summer 2018Lazarou Richard
Nathan tells David a parable about a rich man who takes a poor man's only lamb to feed a guest rather than taking from his own flock. David is outraged and says the man deserves to die. Nathan then tells David that he is the man, for David took another man's wife and had him killed. God will punish David by bringing evil out of his own house. When David acknowledges his sin, Nathan says God has forgiven David but the child born from this sinful relationship will die as consequence of David's actions. The passage shows that God holds all people, including kings, accountable for their sins.
[1] Saul pursued David into the wilderness with 3,000 men while David had only 600. [2] Saul entered a cave to relieve himself while David and his men remained in the back of the cave. Forgiveness and consequences seth g march 24 2019Pacific Church
What happened after David and Bathsheba's sins? How does forgiveness occur? What other spiritual blessings can be discovered through repentance? God loves us so much, that he allows the consequences of our sin to play out. It’s hard for us to see that as love, until we can look at the situation from God’s perspective.
This document provides context and summaries for several chapters in 1 Samuel that describe interactions between David and Saul. It summarizes that Jonathan encourages Saul to spare David's life, Saul tries multiple times to kill David, David spares Saul's life when he finds him alone in a cave, and Saul acknowledges David's righteousness and that he will become king.
This is the first sermon in a series entitled Hard Conversations. The Bible is filled with examples of hard conversations that God used in order to lead a person to repentance or issue a challenge. It may be one of the most important ways that we sharpen one another. This week's sermon is about confronting sin and looks at Nathan's confronting of David in 2 Samuel 12.
Nathan is sent by God to confront David about his sins of adultery with Bathsheba and murder of her husband Uriah. Nathan tells David a parable about a rich man taking a poor man's lamb that causes David to condemn the man's actions, not realizing it describes his own sins. Nathan then directly tells David "You are the man!" and outlines how God had blessed David but he betrayed God. David repents, and while forgiven, his sins still have consequences including the death of his child with Bathsheba. The story teaches that God's word exposes sin, we are often blind to our own faults, and repentance is needed for forgiveness, but sins still have effects.
I. Saul questions David's identity after David spares Saul, showing Saul was possessed and influenced by an evil spirit.
II. Saul partially apologizes to David but attributes his wrongdoings to being misled by others rather than seeing his actions as sins against God.
III. Saul acknowledges David will be king, showing he was receiving true prophecies from God despite consulting a possessed medium.
IV. Hoping to join David's winning side, Saul asks David to swear not to destroy his family, showing Saul was a poor loser unwilling to lose his kingdom gracefully.
The document provides an overview and summary of 2 Samuel 7:1-17, which establishes God's covenant with King David. It discusses how Nathan initially told David he could build a temple, but God later told Nathan the promises made to David. God promised to make David's name great, give Israel rest from enemies, establish David's kingdom forever, and that one of David's descendants would build a temple for God's name. The document also summarizes the 5 unconditional covenants God made: Noahic, Abrahamic, Levitical, Davidic, and New Covenants, and how they relate to God's plan to unite all things in Christ.
The document provides an overview of a sermon given at First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi on June 24, 2018. This document provides an overview of key events in David's life based on 1 Samuel 25-29. It includes a timeline showing David's birth, anointing, marriage to Abigail after saving her from being widowed, and moving to Philistine territory. The summary then describes David's interactions with Nabal and Abigail, two more attempts on David's life by Saul, David sparing Saul's life twice, and David deceiving the Philistines by raiding Israel's enemies while living among them.
2 Samuel 7.8-21 - Established Second Baptist Summer 2018Lazarou Richard
God promised David that he would establish one of his descendants as the leader of Israel. God told David that he would build David a house and establish his kingdom forever. God said that when David died, one of his offspring would come from his body and build a temple for God's name, and God would establish his throne forever. This promise to David established that one of his descendants would have an everlasting kingdom and throne.
Nathan tells David a story about a rich man who takes a poor man's only lamb to feed a traveler rather than take from his own flock. David is outraged at the injustice and says the man deserves to die. Nathan then reveals that David is the man - he took Uriah's wife Bathsheba after having him killed. David acknowledges his sin. Nathan says God has forgiven David's sin against him, but the child born from this sinful relationship will die as a consequence of David's actions.

Nathan then reveals that David is the man - he took another man's wife after having him killed. God will punish David by bringing calamity on his household. David acknowledges his sin.
1) David wrote a song lamenting the death of King Saul and Jonathan, who were killed in battle. 2) Though Saul had tried for years to kill David, David still loved Saul and mourned his death. 3) David cursed the mountains near the battlefield for not protecting the king, and asked that they receive no rain in remembrance of the fallen mighty warriors.

Introduction
Mantra Yoga is an exact science. "Mananat trayate iti mantrah- by the Manana (constant thinking or recollection) of which one is protected or is released from the round of births and deaths, is Mantra." That is called Mantra by the meditation (Manana) on which the Jiva or the individual soul attains freedom from sin, enjoyment in heaven and final liberation, and by the aid of which it attains in full the fourfold fruit (Chaturvarga), i.e., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. A Mantra is so called because it is achieved by the mental process.

Astronism, Cosmism and Cosmodeism: the space religions espousing the doctrine...Cometan
This lecture created by Brandon Taylorian (aka Cometan) specially for the CESNUR Conference held Bordeaux in June 2024 provides a brief introduction to the legacy of religious and philosophical thought that Astronism emerges from, namely the discourse on transcension started assuredly by the Cosmists in Russia in the mid-to-late nineteenth century and then carried on and developed by Mordecai Nessyahu in Cosmodeism in the twentieth century. Cometan also then provides some detail on his story in founding Astronism in the early twenty-first century from 2013 along with details on the central Astronist doctrine of transcension. Finally, the lecture concludes with some contributions made by space religions and space philosophy and their influences on various cultural facets in art, literature and film.

The very deep experience of silence helps to expand from the 3 - dimensional awareness of the body to all pervasive awareness. The bed of silence becomes deeper and more expansive - an ocean of silence with waves on it merge into complete silence called Ajapa state of the mind. This silence is the source of Creativity, Power, Knowledge and Bliss.
PHASE V
From this deep ocean of silence in the heart region, let one OM emerge as an audible sound which diffuses into the entire body and the space all around. Enjoy the beautiful vibrations.
Blink the eyes slowly, gently open the eyes and come out of meditation.
Lição 12: João 15 a 17 – O Espírito Santo e a Oração Sacerdotal | 2° Trimestr...OmarBarrezueta1
God calls us to a journey of worshiping Him. In this journey you will encounter different obstacles and derailments that will want to sway you from worshiping God. You got to be intentional in breaking the barriers staged on your way of worship in order to offer God acceptable worship.

Saul & the Amalekites
Sin pattern continued
Invitation to confess & repent
David anointed king
Saul tries to kill David
David flees
5. 1 Samuel 24:4-6 (pg. 421)
4 And the men of David said to him, “Here is the day of
which the LORD said to you, ‘Behold, I will give your
enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall
seem good to you.’” Then David arose and stealthily cut
off a corner of Saul’s robe. 5 And afterward David’s heart
struck him, because he had cut off a corner of Saul’s
robe. 6 And he said to his men, “The LORD forbid that I
should do this thing to my lord, the LORD’s anointed, to
put out my hand against him, seeing he is the LORD’s
anointed.”
6. Psalm 57:2-3 (pg. 415)
2 I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his
purpose for me. 3 He will send from heaven and save
me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me.
Selah God will send out his steadfast love and his
faithfulness!
7. 1 Samuel 24:17, 20-21 (pg. 422)
17 He said to David, “You are more righteous than
I, for you have repaid me good, whereas I have
repaid you evil. 20 And now, behold, I know that
you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of
Israel shall be established in your hand. 21 Swear
to me therefore by the LORD that you will not cut
off my offspring after me, and that you will not
destroy my name out of my father’s house.”
9. 2 Samuel 12:1-3 (pg. 459)
1 And the LORD sent Nathan to David. He came to him
and said to him, “There were two men in a certain city,
the one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had very
many flocks and herds, 3 but the poor man had nothing
but one little ewe lamb, which had bought. And he
brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his
children. It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his
cup and lie in his arms, and it was like a daughter to him.
10. 2 Samuel 12:4-6 (pg. 459)
4 Now there came a traveler to the rich man, and he was
unwilling to take one of his own flock or herd to prepare
for the guest who had come to him, but he took the poor
man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come
to him.” 5 Then David’s anger was greatly kindled against
the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the LORD lives, the
man who has done this deserves to die, 6 and he shall
restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and
because he had no pity.”
11. 2 Samuel 12:7-9 (pg. 459)
7 Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the
LORD, the God of Israel, ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and
I delivered you out of the hand of Saul. 8 And I gave you
your master’s house and your master’s wives into your arms
and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah. And if this
were too little, I would add to you as much more. 9 Why
have you despised the word of the LORD, to do what is evil
in his sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the
sword and have taken his wife to be your wife and have
killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.
12. 2 Samuel 12:10-12 (pg. 459)
10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from
your house, because you have despised me and have
taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ 11
Thus says the LORD, ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against
you out of your own house. And I will take your wives
before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he
shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. 12 For
you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel
and before the sun.’”
13. 2 Samuel 12:13-15 (pg. 460)
13 David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the
LORD.” And Nathan said to David, “The LORD also has
put away your sin; you shall not die. 14 Nevertheless,
because by this deed you have utterly scorned the LORD,
the child who is born to you shall die.” 15 Then Nathan
went to his house.
14. Psalm 51:1-4 (pg. 460)
1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast
love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my
transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin! 3 For I know my
transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against
you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your
sight, so that you may be justified in your words and
blameless in your judgment.
15. Psalm 51:5-12 (pg. 460)
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my
mother conceive me. 6 Behold, you delight in truth in the
inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I
shall be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have broken rejoice. 9 Hide your face
from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me
a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. 11
Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your
Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your
salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
16. Psalm 51:13-17 (pg. 460)
13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners
will return to you. 14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O
God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing
aloud of your righteousness. 15 O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise. 16 For you will
not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be
pleased with a burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God
are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God,
you will not despise.
17. Repentance
Worldly Grief Godly Grief
Restoration I can fix this From God alone
When Confronted Evades, excuses, hides, conceals Confesses & repents
Heart Attitude Pride & self-preservation Broken, contrite, & self-denial
Action Feels sorry, continues in sin Turns away from sin towards God
Greatest Desire Restoration of position Restoration of relationship with God
Result Death Salvation without regret
The king of God’s choosing
Samuel is a book of contrasts…humble vs. proud, righteous vs. unrighteous, man’s ways vs. God’s ways…the king of man’s choosing (Saul) vs. the king of God’s choosing (David)
have been promised one who will save and bring redemption and restoration…each time we see a leader who we think might be the one, we realize it’s not them…but we do get a clearer picture of Who it really is…
Creation – the Fall and the promise immediately after
Patriarch – Abrahamic Covenant (through you all the nations of the world will be blessed)…He will be from the tribe of Judah and will be a king, a ruler
Exodus – Moses (deliverer & law-giver, a mediator between God and man…Christ as the greater Moses)
Conquest – Joshua and the Israelites travel into the Promised Land and take over…didn’t drive out the Canaanites completely…becomes a big problem (what happens when we don’t deal with sin…)
Judges – the people have no king and are in a terrible sin cycle…the judges get worse and worse and the nation is spiraling completely out of control…
Kingdom Era – we’ve seen the king of the people’s choosing last week…this week we’ll look at the king of God’s choosing…ultimately will see that Christ is the true & better King
Amelek: descendant of Esau, symbolizes our flesh/sin…first battle the Israelites faced once leaving Egypt…were attacked from the rear…represents sin
Saul is called to completely wipe them out, but he doesn’t…kept the beset of the livestock & spoils…
Shows us the sin pattern we see in the Bible: see, desire, take, hide…ultimately death
God sends Samuel to Saul, invitation to confess
Saul blames the people (just like Adam & Eve)
David anointed king…see another contrast…man looks at the outward appearance (Saul) but the LORD looks at the heart (David)
David comes into Saul’s court and eventually becomes a military hero…Saul jealous
Who are your “men”, the people around you who speak into your life?
How do you respond to “little” sin in your life? Complete obedience to authority?
Do you recognize and submit to God’s authority and plan in your life? How do you respond when your timing doesn’t match God’s timing?
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5…blessed are those who lay down their ”rights” and submit to God’s will and authority, for He will give them great inheritance…
Then David confronts Saul and shows him the robe and uses it as proof that he is not out to usurp Saul’s kingship
Saul has a brief moment of what seems like sorrow/repentance…but in reality he is still all about himself and later continues to seek after David to kill him…worldly sorrow that leads to death…
David’s sin with Bathsheba follows the sin pattern we see throughout the Bible…see, desire, take, conceal
Should have been at war, instead sees Bathsheba (lingering gaze), rapes her, tries to cover up her pregnancy (twice…gift & making Uriah drunk), then has Uriah killed
The LORD sending Nathan is His grace…invitation to confession & repentance (like in the garden of Eden, like with Cain & Abel, etc.)…HIS KINDNESS LEADS US TO REPENTANCE…
Nathan is a prophet, will speak the word of the Lord to David
Rich man = David
Poor man = Uriah
Many flocks & herds = David’s wives and concubines
One little ewe lamb = Bathsheba
Traveler = David’s lust…originally was just a traveler, David invited it in and made it his guest…
Bathsheba is sacrificed to satisfy David’s lust
Adulterate = to corrupt, to ruin
God has given, David has taken what was not his to take…
Despised the word of the LORD: David’s actions have shown complete contempt and disregard for God and His authority…opposite of meekness…
Evil in His sight: David’s response to the messenger to tell Joab when he heard that Uriah and more of his men had died was not to let the matter trouble you, don’t let it be evil in your sight…God’s commentary is that it was evil in God’s sight
What David thought was a secret sin was not secret at all…God knew every part of it…
The difference in the king of the people’s choosing and the king of God’s choosing is REPENTANCE…
Descriptive, not prescriptive story…a story about God preserving His covenant no matter the wickedness of those in the line of Christ…
Heard David’s confession to Nathan and here to God…confess your sins one to another…
Not saying that his sin against Bathsheba and Uriah didn’t matter, but illustrating an important principle here to us…Despising God always leads to despising others…great command (love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself)…
THE REASON WE DESPISE OTHER PEOPLE IN OUR LIVES IS A FUNCTION OF A MANNER IN WHICH WE ARE DESPISING GOD HIMSELF…Jen Wilkin
His sin isn’t what made him a sinner, he knows he is a sinner and that is why he sinned…needs God and God alone to do a work in him, change his heart…
Hyssop: Passover & crucifixion…
When have you seen that God’s “breaking of your bones” been His kindness towards you?
Create in me a clean heart…doesn’t say “help me stop sinning”…not about behavior but a new heart, one that loves and submits to God and doesn’t despise Him…
Cast me not away from your presence…contrast with Saul’s desire ”don’t take my kingdom from me”
You will not delight in sacrifice: what do we try to do to atone for our own sin? Feel bad? Do lots of “good” things?
You will not be pleased with a burnt offering: Saul’s defense when he despised the Lord and didn’t carry out His command to wipe out the Amalekites…said they were going to use some of the livestock for a sacrifice…
Broken & contrite heart…Jesus in Beatitudes…
Blessed are the poor in Spirit, those who recognize their own spiritual poverty before the Lord…theirs is the kingdom of heaven
Blessed are those who mourn, those who mourn over their sin…they shall be comforted
Despise…that has been the problem here…we despise God…but through Christ, He will not despise us…
David models true repentance
Saul models false repentance
Guilt doesn’t equal repentance…just because you feel bad doesn’t mean you’ve repented…guilt is actually really dangerous because it can make you feel like you’ve paid for your sin by feeling bad about it…I CAN’T PAY FOR MY SIN…
You should have turned from something if you are a believer…repentance always involves turning…
DRINKING
Repentance is something I still struggle with…not always just outside sins, dealing with this that people can’t see, but like we saw NOTHING IS SECRET BEFORE GOD…
I HAVE BEEN LIKE SAUL…frustrated with authority at school, feel justified in feeling anger and contempt towards them, feel justified in disregarding their authority and doing my own thing…feel bad afterwards, but true repentance is a struggle…issue with Niki…upset with her and with authority over her, feel justified in being angry and even satisfaction when I found out her supervisor wasn’t happy with her…felt justified in doing to her the wrong I felt had been done to me (not being all in and just helping out)..
What we’ll today is this is SEPARATION FROM GOD, at it’s root is a DESPISING OF GOD HIMSELF…not just a “small little sin”…
Who in your life is willing to confront you? Who do you confront?
Where do you need to confess and repent? Is there someone you need to confess to? Who will listen with a sober heart and not just laugh it away with you?
Who will help you continue in the way of repentance?
