The European lobster (Homarus gammarus) is an ecologically important species of the North-eastern Atlantic which supports wild trap fisheries that are worth around £30 million each year to the UK alone. By weight the species is the highest-value seafood among those landed regularly in the UK and Ireland, where 75 percent of the ~5,000t annual landings for the species are made. As such, lobsters provide essential diversity to fragile inshore fisheries and vital income for rural coastal economies. However, populations across its range are pressured by rising exploitation, from which traditional fisheries management has failed to prevent extensive regional stock collapses in the recent past, and now struggles to stimulate recovery. While lobsters have long been transported as a live export commodity, chiefly to France and the Iberian peninsula, emerging markets, particularly those in East Asia, threaten to create additional demand for the species which far exceeds current capture yields. Improvements in hatchery rearing success have seen a number of recent aquaculture initiatives employed, in the hope of both generating restoration and improved sustainability of wild harvests, and instigating commercial aquaculture possibilities.

Students conducted research on European marine environmental policies and shared what they learned through PowerPoint presentations and flyers at their school and with partner schools. The EU is working to clean and protect coastal areas, seas, and oceans in a sustainable way. A 3D underwater projection brought the marine environment close to students, tempting them to touch it. Participants enjoyed visiting the Black Sea coast and city of Constanta in Romania. At a reading club meeting, students involved in the Erasmus+ project shared their creations in a brochure called "Poetry of the Sea", showcasing students' literary talents in poems dedicated to the beauty of the sea.

- 1. FLORA AND FAUNA B1 SECTION OF THE 1st PRIMARY SCHOOL OF SITIA SCHOOL YEAR 2015-2016. Responsible teacher: Vaso Asfentagaki.
- 2. THE BEGINNING OF THE PROGRAM «SEA BREEZE» The beginning of the program was based on the proposed text of the analytical programs of the Anthology of B class “X ... .. as Xerxes' where heroes are two fishes, the swordfish and the bream.
- 3. The children were divided into 4 teams and each team undertook to transform swordfish or bream in the form they wanted.
- 4. So there were created four new heroes: the witch, the princess, the painter and the pirate. With these heroes children all together wrote their own fairy tail.
- 5. The title of the fairy tail: “The adventures of witch Kakomelanouritsa”.
- 6. Then we discussed what children have in their minds when they hear the word “sea”. After the discussion they decided to create their own sea!!!!!
- 7. The result of their creation: The painting that is now decorating the classroom “The sea throw the eyes of children”
- 8. Children researched and collected images, grouping living beings of Mediterranean sea.
- 9. Mr. Kostas Pathiakis, who is diving, helped us to distinguish those that exists at our area.
- 10. The sixth grade completed information about the depths in which all living beings of our marine area live and grow up.
- 12. Then the second grade (section B1) in cooperation with the sixth grade began a three -dimensional construction, in which will be presented the fauna of the seas of our region in the depths we find them.
- 13. The sixth grade designed and cut fishes in newspapers, giving, in this way, an ecological message.
- 14. The same thing did and the children of second grade.
- 15. The three- dimensional construction of the sixth grade.
- 16. Mr. Antonis Skordylakis, Officer of the Greek Navy, organized a presentation about the history of ships from ancient times until today, the parties of the ship and the construction stages. All kids of the school attended this presentation.
