Our intelligence is judged by how we speak, which is why Amy's mother was disrespected by bank services, department stores, and restaurants. They even pretended like she had not been told because of her broken English. Tan could speak English, but her mother couldn't. The author explains her mother's challenges as an immigrant, which included people being rude to her and disrespectful. Her mother was discriminated against because of having imperfect English. Even though Tan could speak good English, she always spoke broken English with her mother. Speaking in broken English brought a connection and a strong bond between her and her mother. She then decides to take English because she believes in English; there are more ways to express oneself, unlike maths. Finally, Amy used to pick calls for her mother and impersonate her. She was fluent in English, but she could speak broken English to show people that even if one is not like the rest, they should not be discriminated against. agencies and the school district members are meeting and
working together to try to reduce the number of high school
students who are smoking/vaping.

example of primary prevention at the community level and is a
start. The team knows that a successful plan requires
interventions at all levels of prevention. They are looking for 2
