Research questions: Does the white teachers really have bias against the black children towards their behaviors in school?
I would like to get my feedback on the grammar, ideas of the entire paper, what to write on the conclusion, or any change I should make in the sources?
Intro:
In the history of the United States, the war is not only about the out wars, it is also an inner war that was between the colors, regions, and the races. Even now people have more open thoughts than the back of the years, yet we still suffering from the discrimination because of our color. Not only does the adult need to fight with the war, the kids also suffer from the issue of the color. Many black children in today’s United States still experiencing a discrimination from not only their classmates, neighbors, strangers, but also from their teachers. Teachers' bias against the black children is one of the problems that the United States is facing. To be a teacher, teachers should be careful with student’s feelings instead of saying things without thoughts.
Writing this paper brings me back to my history class when I was in highschool, I still remember how strong my feeling was when I saw the picture of burning the black people by the whites, being unbelievable it has happened in our real life. I want to explore this problem which has occured for hundreds of years and is still very common in the year of 2020.
Body paragraph1:
“Teachers' Implicit Bias against Black Students Starts in Preschool, Study Finds.”
To compare the reactions and relationships between white teachers and black students, having a test on the teacher and the children is a credible activity to do. It shows the evidence of a reality. The research is about the eye-tracking technology on which child teachers are more identified. The result of the research came out as 42% of the teachers identified the black boys. Is that a good result? Why does almost half of the teachers identify the black boys? Is it because the black students behave badly? In the article, it has shown that the teachers have lower expectations of the black students in school than white students.
This is a credible article for me since there is evidence from the researchers and they really put a test between the students and teachers. The purpose of this article is to understand the expectation from teachers to black students and white students. Their behavior is worth observing. This became helpful to my topic because it shows whether the bias is occurring from teacher to between whites and black students. Compared to the score gap, the expectation is also important because it is also involved in the bias implicit towards the black students.
Body paragraph 2:
“Eye-tracking technology shows that preschool teachers have implicit bias against black boys”

Their behavior is worth observing. This became helpful to my
topic because it shows whether the bias is occurring from

score gap, the expectation is also important because it is also
involved in the bias implicit towards the black students.
Body paragraph 2:
“Eye-tracking technology shows that preschool teachers
3. have implicit bias against black boys”
The researchers used eye-tracking technology to watch over
white teachers to black students. To understand how the teacher
treats their preschooler, the research has involved 132 previous
workers in the preschool. In the research, they have found the
treatment difference from teachers between white students and
black students. While black educators have high expectations of
black students, but there are always low expectations from the
white educator towards black students.
This article has a good purpose on exploring the bias between
the white teacher and the black students. It is a credible article
since they have many sources and researchers to support the
main idea and their purpose. The strength of this article must be
the eye-tracking technology is very wise to test out how
teachers treat their students. However, the article doesn't have
anything about the student reactions in school. Also is unclear
about the suspension rate between the white and black students.
This source is useful in my research helping me understand
clearly about the thoughts between white teachers and black
students' relationships.
Body paragraph 3:
“Variability in Schools’ Suspension Rates of Black Students.”
A three-year suspension study was conducted to explain inter-
school differences in the proportion of black students suspended
in middle schools in the metropolitan school district. Backward
elimination results show that suspensions can be determined by
the percentage of suspensions of non-black students. When
black and non-black students use these variables in the model,
the enrollment rate of black students and the proportion of black
teachers, male teachers and novice teachers cannot predict black
Student suspensions. The proportion of students participating in
the free / sale lunch program was originally retained in the
student model but replaced by teaching experience.
4. The purpose of the article is to know the rates of the suspension
rate between the black students in order to know their behaviors
and the expectations from the teachers. The advantage in this
article is that they had included the rate of the other region of
the rate of suspensions. This is also helpful in the topic because
it can be compared to the previous source to see which source
rate has more standard results.

Exploratory Essay: Barriers to Student Success*The
Assignment:
Your task is to write an exploratory essay that describes
chronologically your own exploration of a problem or issue
relevant to student experiences within the US educational
system (K-college). Pick a research topic/issue that came up in
at least one essay/text that we examined in class, an issue that
some would consider a key barrier to student success and a
contributing factor to the student achievement or opportunity
gap. Your research topic should be something in which you’re
genuinely interested, and it should be one that your readers will
agree is worth looking at. Possible topics include: financial
challenges, implicit racial/gender bias, Zero-Tolerance policies,
standardized tests/poor assessment tools, stereotype threat, and
so forth.
Audience:
Your peers and me—we are somewhat familiar with the topic or
problem based on the class readings and discussions, but we
don’t know a whole lot yet. Like you, we’re curious but naïve
about your research topic, and we’re anxious to learn more
5. about both the process and your sources.
Purpose:
To convince your readers that you have chosen an interesting
and worthy research question and to help your readers
understand your research process and how it helped you to
expand your understanding, but perhaps not yet answer, your
research question.
Specifics:
· Length: 1750-2250 words (about 7-9 pages) -- not counting the
Works Cited page
· Formatting: double-spaced, 12 pt font (Arial or Times New
Roman), following MLA/APA guidelines
· Sources: 6 sources minimum, one of which may from our
course texts. The rest must come from your own research--at
least TWO of which must come from academic/scholarly
sources.
Tips for Success:
1. Read the back side of this handout, which explains how this
assignment differs from a traditional essay.
2. Read the sample exploratory essay. This is on a topic you
can’t use for this assignment --but it’s organization and content
is what you should aim for.
3. Review your notes before choosing a topic!
4. Don’t be afraid to use the word “I”; begin your paper with a
first-person (I, my, me) narrative about your issue, how and
why you became interested in it, how it’s significant, and then
why it is problematic for you (that is, why you can’t yet answer
it).
5. Apply lessons from They Say/I Say.
6. Start early on your rough draft! Go to WAC for help and
revise, revise, revise.
7. Pick an issue that you genuinely don’t know much about and
want to further understand.

How to Organize Your Exploratory Essay
Exploratory essays are very different from argumentative
essays. In fact, an exploratory essay is likely different from any
other essay you’ve written. Instead of writing to convince an
audience of the validity of a thesis, you will be writing to find
out about a problem and perhaps to form some preliminary
conclusions about how it might be solved.
But there is another aspect the exploratory genre that is equally
important. An exploratory essay is, in essence, a retrospective
of your writing and thinking process as you work through a
problem. It describes when, how, and why you completed
certain types of research. This kind of writing is about how you
work through problems that require writing and research. You
will have to be introspective and think about your thinking
process in order for your essay to turn out well. Very roughly,
then, your exploratory essay may follow this sort of structure:
IntroductionThe introduction should provide context about the
problem you explored and why it’s important--why the readers
should care and keep reading. In addition, you should briefly
discuss 1) some of the problem’s possible causes and other
contributing factors; 2) the institutions and people involved
7. with the problem; 3) your research question(s) that clearly
communicates what you hoped to discover and why you are
interested in this issue. Then, provide a brief overview of the
types of sources your researched during your inquiry. Body
Paragraphs
Body paragraphs should discuss the inquiry process you
followed to research your issue. These paragraphs should
include the following:
1. Introduction of source (title, author, publisher, pub date,
etc.) and why you chose to use it.
2. Important information you found in the source regarding your
problem
3. Why the information is important and dependable in relation
to the problem
4. Some personal introspection on how the source helped you,
allowed you to think differently about the problem, or even fell
short of your expectations and led you in a new direction in
your research, which forms a transition into your next source.
Throughout your paper, describe your intellectual wrestling
with the articles’ ideas—what you were thinking about as you
read the articles, how your ideas evolved, the impact of
discussions you had with your others as you reformulated the
problem, changed your mind, and likely experienced confusion
versus “aha!” moments.
Conclusion
By the end of your essay, you’ll need to sum up how your ideas
evolved during your process of research and reflection. Your
conclusion should also restate the problem you explored, outline
some of its possible causes, review the institutions and people
involved, and explain the preliminary conclusions (if any) you
have reached, having done some research. If you still have any
questions about the problem (and it’s perfectly fine to have
some), you will discuss them here. Talk about why you think
you still have questions regarding the problem you explored,
where you might look to answer these questions, and what other
forms of research you would have to do.
8. Again, you do not have to argue for a solution to the problem at
this point. The point of the exploratory essay is to ask an
inquiry question and find out as much as you can to try to
answer your question. Then write about your inquiry and
findings.
Make your exploratory essay an interesting intellectual
detective story—something your readers will enjoy.
