Shahjahanpur: Fol-
lowing the foundation
laying ceremony of
Ganga Expressway in
Shahjahanpur, Uttar
Pradesh Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath on Sat-
urday said the express-
way will not only con-
nect the districts of the
state but also connect
hearts.
With the aim to im-
prove connectivity and
boost economic devel-
opment across Uttar
Pradesh, Prime Minis-
ter Narendra Modi
laid the foundation
stone of the Ganga Ex-
pressway in Shahja-
hanpur on Saturday.
Uttar Pradesh Chief
Minister Yogi Adity-
anath and Deputy
Chief Minister Keshav
Prasad Maurya were
also present at the
inauguration event.
Addressing the event,
the chief minister said,
“Before 2014, slogans
and announcements in
the country used to be
limited to elections
promises only
. But after
2014, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi dealt
with all those issues
which used to be ne-
glected earlier.”
“Just a few days ago,
the Prime Minister in-
augurated the Purvan-
chal Expressway
. Today
the foundation stone of
Ganga Expressway is
being laid which will
connect East Uttar
Pradesh with West and
North. Prime Minister
paid his respect to Maa
Ganga. Ganga Express-
way will not only con-
nect many districts of
the state but also con-
nect the hearts,” added
Yogi Adityanath.
According to Prime
Minister’sOffice(PMO),
the inspiration behind
the expressway is the vi-
sion of the Prime Minis-
ter to provide fast-paced
connectivity across the
country
.
The 594-kilometre
long six-lane express-
way will be built at a
cost of over `36,200
crore. Starting near the
Bijauli village in
Meerut, the expressway
will extend till near the
Judapur Dandu village
in Prayagraj. It will
pass through Meerut,
Hapur, Bulandshahr,
Amroha, Sambhal,
Budaun, Shahjahan-
pur, Hardoi, Unnao,
Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh
and Prayagraj.
Upon completion of
work, it will become
the longest express-
way of Uttar Pradesh,
connecting the west-
ern and eastern re-
gions of the state. A
3.5-kilometre long air-
strip for assisting
emergency take-off
and landing of Air
Force planes will also
be constructed on the
expressway in Shahja-
hanpur. An industrial
corridor is also pro-
posed to be built along
the expressway.
The expressway will
also give a fillip to mul-
tiple sectors including
industrial development,
trade, agriculture, tour-
ism etc. It will provide a
big boost to the socio-
economic development
of the region. The Gan-
ga Expressway was ap-
proved on November 26,
2020. This expressway
will be completed by
2024. Assembly elec-
tions in Uttar Pradesh
are slated for early next

Lucknow: Addressing
a rally after laying the
foundation stone of the
594-km-long Ganga Ex-
pressway in Uttar
Pradesh’s Shahjahan-
pur district, Prime
Minister Narendra
Modi said poor law and
order led to exodus of
people from UP earlier,
but during the past
four-and-half years
bulldozers have razed
unauthorised proper-
ties of mafias, causing
pain to those patronis-
ing them.
“UP plus Yogi bahut
hai upyogi” (Uttar
Pradesh plus Yogi have
great utility), he said,
expanding U.P.Y.O.G.I.
Modi said, “You are
well versed with the
situation here and the
law-and-order situa-
tion in western UP be-
fore the Yogi govern-
ment came. The BJP
has already declared
that Adityanath will be
its face in the upcom-
ing polls in the political
heartland of the coun-
try.
Hailing the state gov-
ernment’s action
against mafias, he said
“Aaj jab mafia par bull-
dozer chalta hai...bull-
dozer to gair kanooni
imaraat par chalta
hai...par dard usko
‘palne-posne’ wale ko
hota hai” (today when
bulldozers raze unau-
thorised properties of
mafias, the pain is felt
by those patronising
them).
Intensifying his at-
tack on the opposition
ahead of the crucial as-
sembly elections, Modi
said, “There are some
political parties, which
have problems with the
country’s heritage and
development. They
have problems with de-
velopment, as the de-
pendence of the poor
and common man on
them is reducing day
by day.” “These people
have problems with
cleaning of river Gan-
ga. These are the peo-
ple who raise questions
on the action of the
Army on terrorists.
“They are the people
who bring the made-in-
India coronavirus vac-
cine under the scanner.
They have problem
with the grand dhaam
of Baba Vishvanath in
Kashi, and these people
have a problem with
the grand temple of
Lord Ram in Ayodhya,”
Modi said. Counting
virtues of the double
engine government,
Modi said unlike five
years ago when elec-
tricity could be found
only in a few selected
areas, they have not
only given 80 lakh free
power connections, but
every district is getting
more electricity than
before.
He said more than 30
lakh poor people got
pucca houses in Uttar
Pradesh and this cam-
paign will continue to
cover all the remaining
entitled beneficiaries.
Modi said earlier pro-
jects were started on
paper to fill one’s coffer,
while today work is be-
ing done on such pro-
jects, so that the people
of Uttar Pradesh can
save their money.
“This feeling is also vis-
ible in our agriculture
policy and the policy
related to the farmers,”
he said.
Modi said in terms
of giving MSP (laab-
hkaari mulya) of sug-
arcane, Uttar Pradesh
is one of the leading
states, and it is also
ahead when it comes to
making payments to
the farmers.

MENTAL DISORDER

OBSTACLE IN ONE’S
PATH TO SUCCESS
havya Nain, a judi-
cial officer who suf-
fers from bipolar af-
fective disorder, has
made it to judgeship
thanks to the Supreme Court’s
path-breaking judgement in his
favour. Nain had qualified the
2018 Delhi Judicial Service Ex-
amination but was prevented
from joining on the ground that
his disability was not found to be
permanent as per his disability
certificate. He challenged the de-
cision and the Delhi High Court
allowedhispetitionanddeclared
him as the only person selected
to the Delhi Judicial Service in
the mental health category
.
In bipolar disorder a person
undergoesextrememoodswings,
including emotional highs and
lows. According to the WHO,
mental disorder is the sixth lead-
ing cause of disability globally
.
Nain went all through this but
overcame his illness to be a top-
per in LLM. He also taught law at
a private university
.
The HC and SC judgments will
be applauded by all those who
have mental disorders as one of
them has broken a glass ceiling.
B
n an avoidable
controversy, the

taken offense to BJP’s inter-
pretation of Sikh history and
wants a complete ban on the
booklet released at inaugura-

SGPC media secretary Kul-
winder Singh Ramdas has
objected to the booklet which
claims Panj Piaras were sent
to Kashi to learn about Sana-
tan Dharm. Those who went
to Kashi were different peo-
ple, Ramdas clarified while
condemning the booklet dis-
tributed as “prasad”.
The booklet states that “the
Panj Piaras (five beloved
ones), through whom the
Khalsa Panth was founded by
GuruGobindSingh,werefirst
senttoKashi,sothattheymay
attain full knowledge of the
Sanatan Dharm and be ready
for its protection,” Ramdas
said and asserted that this is
“factually wrong”, written
“withillusoryintentions”and
“lack of knowledge about the
Sikh faith”. The Khalsa Panth
was created to protect reli-
gious values and human
rightsagainsttyrannyandop-
pression and not to protect the
Sanatan Dharm.
Called it ‘distortion’ of
Sikh history in relation to
Kashi, SGPC said the five (not
the Panj Piaras) were sent to
Kashi to learn Sanskrit as one
Pandit Raghunath at Paonta
Sahib refused to teach San-
skrit to the “Sikh students
belonging to the Shudra
class”. Sikhism, unlike Sana-
tan Dharm, condemns the
caste system and a gurdwara
langar best symbolizes that.

to rewrite India’s political

I
o officer of the Indian For-
eign Service will forget the
horrific and murderous ac-
tivities of the Pakistan army
in East Pakistan, beginning
March 25, 1971.
After completing five years
in the Prime Minister’s Sec-
retariat, I was posted as am-
bassador to Poland. I had ac-
companied Prime Minister
Indira Gandhi in 1967 to War-
saw. Hence, I was familiar
with the historic city and Pol-
ish history
.
The Ministry kept me in-
formed of the developments
in East Pakistan. Pakistan
was committing genocide in
its Eastern wing. Indira Gan-
dhi was not sitting idle. She
visited several European
countriesandLondontobrief
the leaders of what was really
happening in East Pakistan.
Her meeting with Presi-
dent Nixon was not satisfac-
tory
. But she got several Sen-
ators, Congressmen and a
majority of the US media to
appreciate and support In-
dia’s policy of helping the
Bangladeshis. To the despair
of Pakistan the Islamic world
and China remained neutral.
Normally India and Paki-
stani diplomats do not dis-
play cordiality toward their
Indian counterparts. We re-
turn the complement. The
Poles following the Soviet
line were more than friendly
towards Indian diplomats.
Aware of my proximity to
PM, Indira Gandhi, I was
treated with unusual courte-
sy in Warsaw.
One day in September 1971
I got a message from the Pa-
kistan ambassador. He
wished to meet me at my
residence late in the evening.
Ambassador Bashir was a
Bengali. I could see that he
was anxious and distraught.
I asked him if I could do any-
thing for him. He handed me
a large envelope. “These are
the minutes of the meeting
Bhutto had held in Geneva a
few weeks ago of all Pakistan
ambassadors in Europe. The
subject was East Pakistan
and how Islamabad was deal-
ing with it. “My people are
being butchered. I have not
heard from my close rela-
tions in Dacca for months,”
Bashir said to me.
“What am I to do with this
envelope? I enquired. “I know
you are close to Mrs Gandhi.
Please send this to her.”
Strictly speaking I should
have sent it to the Foreign
Secretary. From there it
would do the rounds in the
Ministry
. I decided to send it
to the Prime Minister. Action
was immediately taken.
A few days later Bashir
came to meet me again. Clan-
destinely
. This time he hand-
ed me a diplomatic bomb.
Without wasting any time
Bashir said, “Here is the ci-
pher code which the Pakistan
Foreign office and Heads of
Mission use.” I was flabber-
gasted. For an ambassador
the cypher code is of the
highest importance, as it is
used to convey to the Minis-
try top secret information.
Here was the Ambassador of
Pakistan giving the cypher
code used by him to the In-
dian ambassador of India.
This was unheard of.
I personally took the red
hot cargo to Delhi and handed
it over to RAW chief RN Kaw.
By the time I returned to
Warsaw ambassador Bashir
had resigned from the Paki-
stan Foreign Service. He had
informed the Polish Foreign
Office. He was not declared
persona non grata but his
diplomatic immunity was
withdrawn. He was at a loss
to find an answer to the prob-
lems he faced. Sooner rather
than later he would be asked
to vacate the residence he
was staying in. He would
then have nowhere to go. Sec-
ondly, if his official car was
taken away he and his family
would be reduced to using
public transport.
The saving grace was that
he was not short of money as
he had withdrawn all the of-
ficial and personal funds
from the bank. Since he was
no longer an ambassador, he
could not meet anyone in the
Polish Foreign office.
I faced a dilemma, should I
intercede on his behalf with
the Foreign Office. Eventual-
ly I decided to help Bashir. I
spoke to the Deputy Foreign
Minister, Romuald Spasosky
.
He had been Polish ambassa-
dor to India. I had, more than
once taken him to meet Shri-
mati Gandhi. He said he
could only act, “Unofficially”.
Bashir could stay in the offi-
cialresidenceforafewweeks.
By December 16 it was all
over. Pakistan surrendered.
East Pakistan was history
.
Bashir was re-employed by
the newly born Bangladesh
Government.
The Americans behaved

formed his government that

can unworthies were an odi-
ous couple. They ignored the
Council General’s reports.

resign for telling lies. Kiss-
inger got away, calling Bang-

er of rice in the world, second

Mr Junaid R.K Ahmed, a
Bangladeshi citizen, current-
ly Country Director of the
World Bank in India wrote an
article in the Times of India
on December 16- “Making of
Shonar Bangla”. It is worth
reading.
I visited Dacca in 2004 as

was received with friendly
warmth, even respect. I carry

SP leaders, who were not
pulling on well with Akhilesh
Yadav during his regime (2012-
17) and were close to Shivpal
Yadav had switched over to
PSP when elder Yadav floated
the party in 2019 and was
expecting to become PSP
candidates in 2022. But their
hopes have been shattered as
there are indications from the
SP that all those who ran
vicious campaigns against
Akhilesh Yadav during the last
five years are unlikely to be
given tickets. In view of the
prevailing political situation and
emerging scenario of a bipolar
election, there was a realisation
in the PSP camp that it would
not be advisable to continue
hostility with the SP. Hence
Shivpal Yadav, who had
launched his Rath Yatra from
Mathura to Prayagraj, left in
midway. Elder Yadav repeatedly
said that he was willing to
merge the party with the SP.
However, he would now have to
keep his supporters in good
humour who accompanied him
during his “Vanwas”.

A TOXIC MIX OF
BOOZE AND
BUREAUCRAT
BREWS
TROUBLE
In the bureaucracy of Uttar
Pradesh, many officers are
fond of drinking alcohol, but
everyone’s has got a different
style. But nowadays, a photo of
an officer drinking alcohol in the
bureaucracy of Uttar Pradesh
has gone viral following which,
the officer has now become a
topic of discussion among the
people. Those who drink alcohol
perhaps not have ever thought
that an officer would drink in
such a manner. An officer
posted in a big city of Uttar
Pradesh was seen lying in the
bathtub of a five-star hotel and
drinking alcohol, while his dear
friend is seen bringing food for
him. Seeing the photo, the scene
reminded some bureaucrats
about Sridevi. People drink
alcohol by sitting at the table,
but for the first time, a
bureaucrat was seen in the
bathtub of the bathroom, lying in
clothes and drinking alcohol.
Whether it is a hobby or a
compulsion, it cannot be said,
but while drinking alcohol, no
such incident which occurred
with Sridevi should occur again.
The officer seen in the picture
drinking alcohol was also made
aware of his actions and his
photograph had been clicked and
went viral which caused him a
huge disappointment. After all,
how a photo of such a secret
party reached the officers. Since
the matter was related to a senior
officer, most of the officers are
trying to hush up the issue so
that no harm can be done to the
career of the officer. Interestingly
everyone is also trying to find out
who was the insider who made
such a secret photo viral.

Lucknow: The writ-
ing on the wall for the
beleaguered Union
minister of state for
Home, Ajay Mishra
aka ‘Teni’ is clear. The
BJP may be resisting
the belligerent Opposi-
tion demanding his
scalp but the time for
the latter indeed seems
to have run out.
And their several in-
dications to this, the
latest being him being
not invited to attend
the foundation stone
laying of the Ganga
Expressway by Prime
Minister Narendra
Modi on Saturday in
Shahjahanpur, the
neighboring district
of Lakhimpur Kheri
from where Mishra
hails is an MP.
This is the second
slight the controversial
minister has received
from the party high
command. Earlier, he
was not invited to the
breakfast meeting
hosted by PM Modi on
Friday for UP parlia-
mentarians. About
three dozen BJP MPs
from poll-bound UP
were called by the PM
over breakfast as part
of an exercise to take
their feedback and
gauge the public mood
but ‘Teni’ was kept out.
In fact, the last time
Mishra was seen rub-
bing shoulders with
party heavyweights
was in November in
Lucknow. He had
shared the stage with
Union Home minister
Amit Shah on the inau-
gural day of the All In-
dia DGP Conference in
the State capital then.
No wonder, the state
party leadership too
has so far excluded him
from its scheme of
things. Barring
Mishra, all the other
ministers in the union
cabinet who hailed
from UP have been en-
trusted with election
related tasks and or-
ganisational meetings
held to discusss poll
strategy. So what has
kept the Damocles
Sword hanging over
his head from falling?
The answer is obvi-
ous: UP polls and po-
litical fallout of drop-
ping Mishra from the
team. The ruling party,
as also expressed by
some observers, appar-
ently, wants to “avoid
upsetting Brahmins”
in the poll-bound state.
Sources point to anoth-
er factor— “intra-party
politics” at play. Sur-
prised at Mishra’s en-
try in the Modi Cabinet
a couple of months ago,
a state leader said the
new set of charges by
the Special Investigat-
ing Team in the Lakh-
impur Kheri case had
made his continuation
(as a minister at the

termed Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath useless
or “unupyogi”, citing
incidents of crimes
against Dalits and wom-

He made the remark
in a tweet, punning on
the Hindi word Up-Yogi
(useful) as PM Modi
called him earlier in the
day
. In a public address
in Shahjahanpur, Modi
coined a new slogan
“UP plus Yogi bahut hai

tyanath for eliminating

ing developmental work
in the state. In his tweet
Akhilesh said, “The

feeling insecure, unem-
ployed youths, the Dal-
its, and the backward

Akhilesh headed Sa-
majwadi Party govt in

and was succeeded by
Yogi. The war of words
between BJP and SP
continued ahead of cru-

scheduled early next

WILL RAHUL
BECOME A LEADER
LIKE THIS?
Effortsareontoprove
Rahul Gandhi as a
leader. In the ‘Mehangai
Hatao Maha Rally’ held
in Jaipur recently, the
grand picture of Sonia
Gandhi was on the left
in the backdrop of the
grand stage, she was
also sitting there with
Priyanka. Ardent Cong
workers kept waiting
for her address, but she
did not speak in the ral-
ly
. By being silent, she
gave her son moral
strength and support.
Priyanka was not given
much importance in the
rally
, she spoke as much
as Pilot spoke. Rahul got
entangled in Hindu and
Hindutvadi, whatever
he said or wanted to say
,
most of the people could
not understand. Sonia
patted him on the back
and congratulated him
after his speech, as if
declaring that real lead-
er of party was Rahul.
In fact, this behaviour
of Sonia was to send a
message to the leaders
of the party, who are
still more fond of Pri-
yanka’s leadership abil-
itythanRahul’s.Priyan-
ka’s personal secy Sand-
eep had been preparing
for long that in elections
of five states, more and
more meetings of Pri-
yanka should be organ-
ised in every state. Pri-
yanka’s poll meeting in
Goa was a part of this
thinking. As per sourc-
es,Soniahassummoned
Priyanka told her
bluntly that she will
have to put an end to her
lofty political ambitions
 confine herself only to
UP
, where there is hardly
any ground left for Cong.
PRIYANKA VS RAHUL
Forthelastthree-four
months, the news of
a rift between Rahul and
his sister Priyanka has
been coming out con-
tinuously
. Sources said
that Rahul’s anger is
more about Priyanka’s
personal secy Sandeep.
It may be noted that
Sandeep of ‘JNU fame’
is the same who used to
be the ‘speech writer’ of
Rahul in 2019 LS polls. It
is also said that he
coined the slogan
‘ C h o w k i d a r
Chor Hai’
which was
badly back-
fired in the
elections. This
estrangement
between brother
and sister started
with the UP
e l e c -
t i o n s
when two important
members of the screen-
ing committee of UP
-Bhanwar Jitendra Sin-
gh and Varsha Gaikwad
-filed a complaint with
Rahul that there is a lot
of confusion in the tick-
et distribution in UP
and there were rumours
of tickets being sold. Re-
gardingGadchirolirally
also, Rahul was con-
stantly complaining
that a lot of money has
been taken from Chan-
drapur in name of Pri-
yanka’s rally
. Only after
this, Priyanka’s Gadchi-
roli rally was cancelled
at the behest of Rahul.
As per sources, Rahul
wants to remove Sand-
eep, but on suggestion
of Alankar Sawai, he
has put an end to his in-
tentions till UP polls. It
is said that Alankar
Sawai is as much impor-
tant for Rahul as Ahmed
Patel was for Sonia. But
these days, Rahul is a lit-
tle bit miffed with
Alankar, as he is getting
general complaints
from party leaders
workers that Alankar
does not give them time
to meet Rahul. So, after
polls of these 5 states,
there may be a major re-
shuffle in the kitchen
cabinet of Rahul and
Priyanka.
MAKEN EYEING RS
SEAT FROM RAJ!
Maken is giving
credit for success
of Congress’s Jaipur
rally to himself. He is
also trying to take credit
for the fact that it was
his idea to shift this ‘Me-
hengai Hatao Maha ral-
ly’ from Delhi to Jaipur.
Actually, Maken is eye-
ing the RS seat from Ra-
jasthan. The seat is go-
ing to fall vacant in
April when Anand Shar-
ma retires. Considering
his involvement in G-23,
there is very little hope
that Sharma will get RS
seat again. At the same
time,AKAntonyandSK

Sonia, are also hoping to
get this seat. But these
days, what Rahul wants

CHINTU, MINTU,

J’KHAND GOVT
In the corridors of
power, speculation
has been rife for a long
time that the Hemant
Soren government of
Jharkhand is under
control by some Chintu,
Mintu and Pintu.
Sources said
that the me-
dia advisor
to CM Ab-
hishek Ku-
mar Pintu is
the most
power-
ful in
t h e
govt, who lives round
clock like a shadow with
the CM and is said to
have a very close rela-
tionship with the CM.
CM’s secy Vinay also
has an upper hand and
under his supervision,
the new liquor policy in
Jharkhand has got
shape.
NITISH’S FIGHT
WITH GUV IN BIHAR
Tussle between Bihar
Guv Chauhan CM
Nitish is escalating. Nit-
ish is so angry with his
Guv that he has also
complained against him
to PM. But BJP does not
want to trouble Chau-
han till polls as Chau-
han comes from UP
where he has a large
vote bank of his Nonia
caste. Chauhan, leader
of Nonia caste, has
made an alliance with
Akhilesh’s SP
, so BJP
Sangh do not want to
disturb Phagu in such
situation.
YOGI’S MODI-BHAKTI
Recently, UP
CM Yogi
was asked,
‘Who does
he consid-
er to be
his ideal?’ He replied
with alacrity,” If it is
about religion and rites,
then my ideals are guru
Mahant Avaidhyanath
and my parents. And if
it is about politics, then
my guru is respected
Modi.” So, in a way
, Yogi
has tried to silent peo-
ple who were talking
about Modi vs Yogi. At
the same time, by expos-
ing Teni in SIT investi-
gation, Yogi has tried to
target the number two
in BJP
. Everyone knows
who is standing firmly
behind Teni, who is
constantly giving him
protection in politics.
When Teni misbehaved
with a TV journalist, it
is understood that Shah
summoned Teni took
his class. So, till polls,
Teni seems to be safe.
...AND FINALLY

of streaming services over
recent years has made it
very easy to do. Unsurpris-
ingly, during COVID lock-
downs, research shows
many of us spent more time
binge-watching than usual.
But can binge-watching
become problematic or ad-
dictive? And if you can’t
tear yourself away, what
can you do?
P r o b l e m a t i c
binge-watching
isn’t defined by
the number of
episodes watched
(althoughmostre-
searchers agree
it’s at least two in
a row), or a spe-
cific number of hours spent
in front of the TV or com-
puter screen. As with other
addictive behaviours, more
important is whether binge-
watching is having a nega-
tive impact on other aspects
of the person’s life.
Over many years study-
ing addiction, I’ve argued
thatalladdictivebehaviours
comprise six core compo-
nents. In relation to binge-
watching, this would
mean:
1.Binge-watching
is the most important
thing in the person’s life
(salience)
2. The person engages in
binge-watching as a way
of reliablychangingtheir
mood: to feel better in the
short-term or to tempo-
rarily escape from some-
thing negative in their
life (mood modification)
3. Binge-watching compro-
mises key aspects of the
person’s life like relation-
ships and educa-
tion or work (conflict)
4. The number of hours
the person spends binge-
watching each day has
increased significantly
over time (tolerance)
5. The person experiences
psychological and/or
physiologicalwithdrawal
symptoms if they’re un-
abletobinge-watch(with-
drawal)
6. If the person manages to
temporarily stop binge-
watching, when they en-
gageintheactivityagain,
they go straight back into
thecycletheywereinpre-
viously (relapse).

I loved the movie! There isn't a thing
about it that I'd change. Being a Marvel
fan, I had to catch the earliest show
possible and the feeling to watch a marvel
movie after two years was amazing. The
characters, be it the homecoming of Tobey
Maguire or the presence of Spiderman’s
OG villain, Green Goblin, the movie is a
star show, perfect for any day of the week,
not just the weekend.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is the
perfect weekend watch for every
spiderman fan as the grand entry of all the
old villains takes you to nostalgia. Spider-
Man has always been one of the most
famous superheroes from Marvel Comics
and with this movie, you get a glimpse of
your favourite individual Peter Parker no
matter what generation of him you
liked the most.
SHAHAN ANSARI
Spider-Man: No Way Home is by far
the best Spider-Man movie. The
Marvel universe isn't just a franchise
it is a feeling for people and the
feeling of watching a Marvel movie
on the big screen has always
been surreal and amazing. I
loved the storyline and
characters in the movie and
I’ve always loved Spider-Man.
It’s a great watch for e weekend

Intensifying his at- tack on the opposition ahead of the crucial as- sembly elections, Modi said, “There are some political parties, which have problems with the country’s heritage and development. They have problems with de- velopment, as the de- pendence of the poor and common man on them is reducing day by day.” “These people have problems with cleaning of river Gan- ga. These are the peo- ple who raise questions on the action of the Army on terrorists. “They are the people who bring the made-in- India coronavirus vac- cine under the scanner. They have problem with the grand dhaam of Baba Vishvanath in Kashi, and these people have a problem with the grand temple of Lord Ram in Ayodhya,” Modi said. Counting virtues of the double engine government, Modi said unlike five years ago when elec- tricity could be found only in a few selected areas, they have not only given 80 lakh free power connections, but every district is getting more electricity than before. He said more than 30 lakh poor people got pucca houses in Uttar Pradesh and this cam- paign will continue to cover all the remaining entitled beneficiaries. Modi said earlier pro- jects were started on paper to fill one’s coffer, while today work is be- ing done on such pro- jects, so that the people of Uttar Pradesh can save their money. “This feeling is also vis- ible in our agriculture policy and the policy related to the farmers,” he said. The senior residents remained in the hall but could not give treatment to patients in the same way as treatment used to be done due to presence of junior doctors. However, the patients got relief for the time being due to functioning of emergency services. Up- set by the delay in admission under NEET PG 2021, the junior doctors of GSVM Medical College went on strike again from Saturday hitting OPD, indoor and routine operations. HC RELIEF TO FORMER SP MLA SAEED AHMED’S SON IN RAPE CASE Allahabad: The Allahabad HC has granted interim anticipatory bail to Quavi Ahmed, son of former Samajwadi Party MLA Saeed Ahmad, in a rape case. Justice SD Singh fixed January 7 as the next date of hearing and directed the UP government to file a counter affidavit in the case. The petitioner claimed that false allegations were made in the FIR to pressure him as he and the woman had business relations which became sour and they started accruing losses in the business. On September 13, an FIR was registered against Ahmad for assault, loot and rape and under UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020 for attempt to convert forcefully by misrepresentation at Civil Lines police station here. The woman came in contact with Quavi in 2018. I-TDEPTRAIDSONAKHILESHAIDES First India Bureau Lucknow: In a major development on Satur- day morning, the In- come Tax (I-T) depart- ment sleuths conducted raids on the premises of people associated with the Samajwadi Party (SP). The search- es were carried out at multiple cities. IT sleuths carried out searches on the prem- ises of Manoj Yadav in Agra, Neetu Yadav aka Jainendra Yadav in Lucknow and Rajeev Rai in Mau, sources said. A team from the I-T department from Vara- nasi first searched the residence of Rajeev Rai in Sahadatpura area of Mau district located in eastern UP. Rai is the secretary and spokes- person of the Samajwa- di Party . Sources said Rajeev owns a group that runs many educational insti- tutions in Karnataka and they were all under the I-T scanner. The I-T department also conducted search- es on the premises of RCL Group owner Manoj Yadav in Main- puri and Agra. In Mainpuri, I-T offi- cials arrived in a fleet of 10 vehicles and cor- doned off Manoj Ya- dav’s residence. Akhilesh Yadav questions the timing of the raid Taking a jibe at the ruling BJP over the raids, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said such misuse of Central agencies only reflect that the BJP has realised they will be wiped off in the 2022 as- sembly polls in UP. “I have always said as the elections will draw closer even the senior most leaders of BJP will visit UP. Income Tax has come, now En- forcement Directorate, Central Bureau of In- vestigations (CBI) and all other Central agen- cies will follow suit. Al- legations will be heaped. B n an avoidable controversy, the Shiromani Gurd- wara Parbandhak Committee has taken offense to BJP’s inter- pretation of Sikh history and wants a complete ban on the booklet released at inaugura- tion of Kashi Vishwanath Dham recently. The “Kashi Vishwanath Dham ka Gauravshali Itihas” was released by PM Narendra Modi.Inastrongreaction, the SGPC media secretary Kul- winder Singh Ramdas has objected to the booklet which claims Panj Piaras were sent to Kashi to learn about Sana- tan Dharm. Those who went to Kashi were different peo- ple, Ramdas clarified while condemning the booklet dis- tributed as “prasad”. The booklet states that “the Panj Piaras (five beloved ones), through whom the Khalsa Panth was founded by GuruGobindSingh, werefirst senttoKashi, sothattheymay attain full knowledge of the Sanatan Dharm and be ready for its protection,” Ramdas said and asserted that this is “factually wrong”, written “withillusoryintentions”and “lack of knowledge about the Sikh faith”. The Khalsa Panth was created to protect reli- gious values and human rightsagainsttyrannyandop- pression and not to protect the Sanatan Dharm. Called it ‘distortion’ of Sikh history in relation to Kashi, SGPC said the five (not the Panj Piaras) were sent to Kashi to learn Sanskrit as one Pandit Raghunath at Paonta Sahib refused to teach San- skrit to the “Sikh students belonging to the Shudra class”. Sikhism, unlike Sana- tan Dharm, condemns the caste system and a gurdwara langar best symbolizes that. Is this part of a bigger plan to rewrite India’s political and religious history? PANJ PIARAS BJP’s SANATAN DHARM The Khalsa Panth was created to protect religious values and human rights against tyranny and oppression and not to protect the Sanatan Dharm I o officer of the Indian For- eign Service will forget the horrific and murderous ac- tivities of the Pakistan army in East Pakistan, beginning March 25, 1971. After completing five years in the Prime Minister’s Sec- retariat, I was posted as am- bassador to Poland. I had ac- companied Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1967 to War- saw. Hence, I was familiar with the historic city and Pol- ish history . The Ministry kept me in- formed of the developments in East Pakistan. Pakistan was committing genocide in its Eastern wing. Indira Gan- dhi was not sitting idle. She visited several European countriesandLondontobrief the leaders of what was really happening in East Pakistan. Her meeting with Presi- dent Nixon was not satisfac- tory . But she got several Sen- ators, Congressmen and a majority of the US media to appreciate and support In- dia’s policy of helping the Bangladeshis. To the despair of Pakistan the Islamic world and China remained neutral. Normally India and Paki- stani diplomats do not dis- play cordiality toward their Indian counterparts. We re- turn the complement. The Poles following the Soviet line were more than friendly towards Indian diplomats. Aware of my proximity to PM, Indira Gandhi, I was treated with unusual courte- sy in Warsaw. One day in September 1971 I got a message from the Pa- kistan ambassador. He wished to meet me at my residence late in the evening. Ambassador Bashir was a Bengali. I could see that he was anxious and distraught. I asked him if I could do any- thing for him. He handed me a large envelope. “These are the minutes of the meeting Bhutto had held in Geneva a few weeks ago of all Pakistan ambassadors in Europe. The subject was East Pakistan and how Islamabad was deal- ing with it. “My people are being butchered. I have not heard from my close rela- tions in Dacca for months,” Bashir said to me. “What am I to do with this envelope? I enquired. “I know you are close to Mrs Gandhi. Please send this to her.” Strictly speaking I should have sent it to the Foreign Secretary. From there it would do the rounds in the Ministry . I decided to send it to the Prime Minister. Action was immediately taken. A few days later Bashir came to meet me again. Clan- destinely . This time he hand- ed me a diplomatic bomb. Without wasting any time Bashir said, “Here is the ci- pher code which the Pakistan Foreign office and Heads of Mission use.” I was flabber- gasted. For an ambassador the cypher code is of the highest importance, as it is used to convey to the Minis- try top secret information. Here was the Ambassador of Pakistan giving the cypher code used by him to the In- dian ambassador of India. This was unheard of. I personally took the red hot cargo to Delhi and handed it over to RAW chief RN Kaw. By the time I returned to Warsaw ambassador Bashir had resigned from the Paki- stan Foreign Service. He had informed the Polish Foreign Office. He was not declared persona non grata but his diplomatic immunity was withdrawn. He was at a loss to find an answer to the prob- lems he faced. Sooner rather than later he would be asked to vacate the residence he was staying in. He would then have nowhere to go. Sec- ondly, if his official car was taken away he and his family would be reduced to using public transport. The saving grace was that he was not short of money as he had withdrawn all the of- ficial and personal funds from the bank. Since he was no longer an ambassador, he could not meet anyone in the Polish Foreign office. I faced a dilemma, should I intercede on his behalf with the Foreign Office. Eventual- ly I decided to help Bashir. I spoke to the Deputy Foreign Minister, Romuald Spasosky . He had been Polish ambassa- dor to India. I had, more than once taken him to meet Shri- mati Gandhi. He said he could only act, “Unofficially”. Bashir could stay in the offi- cialresidenceforafewweeks. By December 16 it was all over. Pakistan surrendered. East Pakistan was history . Even as Akhilesh has made it clear that “Chacha” and his supporters would be honourably adjusted in ticket distribution there is no indication how much of them would be able to get the nomination. Shivpal Yadav has also said that there would not be any issue in seat sharing. Quite a substantial number of SP leaders, who were not pulling on well with Akhilesh Yadav during his regime (2012- 17) and were close to Shivpal Yadav had switched over to PSP when elder Yadav floated the party in 2019 and was expecting to become PSP candidates in 2022. But their hopes have been shattered as there are indications from the SP that all those who ran vicious campaigns against Akhilesh Yadav during the last five years are unlikely to be given tickets. In view of the prevailing political situation and emerging scenario of a bipolar election, there was a realisation in the PSP camp that it would not be advisable to continue hostility with the SP. Hence Shivpal Yadav, who had launched his Rath Yatra from Mathura to Prayagraj, left in midway. Elder Yadav repeatedly said that he was willing to merge the party with the SP. However, he would now have to keep his supporters in good humour who accompanied him during his “Vanwas”. —First India Bureau A TOXIC MIX OF BOOZE AND BUREAUCRAT BREWS TROUBLE In the bureaucracy of Uttar Pradesh, many officers are fond of drinking alcohol, but everyone’s has got a different style. But nowadays, a photo of an officer drinking alcohol in the bureaucracy of Uttar Pradesh has gone viral following which, the officer has now become a topic of discussion among the people. Those who drink alcohol perhaps not have ever thought that an officer would drink in such a manner. An officer posted in a big city of Uttar Pradesh was seen lying in the bathtub of a five-star hotel and drinking alcohol, while his dear friend is seen bringing food for him. Seeing the photo, the scene reminded some bureaucrats about Sridevi. People drink alcohol by sitting at the table, but for the first time, a bureaucrat was seen in the bathtub of the bathroom, lying in clothes and drinking alcohol. Whether it is a hobby or a compulsion, it cannot be said, but while drinking alcohol, no such incident which occurred with Sridevi should occur again. The officer seen in the picture drinking alcohol was also made aware of his actions and his photograph had been clicked and went viral which caused him a huge disappointment. After all, how a photo of such a secret party reached the officers. Since the matter was related to a senior officer, most of the officers are trying to hush up the issue so that no harm can be done to the career of the officer. Interestingly everyone is also trying to find out who was the insider who made such a secret photo viral. —Ahtesham Siddiqui MOSAJAYMISHRA BECOMES THEHOT-POTATOFORBJP M Tariq Khan Lucknow: The writ- ing on the wall for the beleaguered Union minister of state for Home, Ajay Mishra aka ‘Teni’ is clear. The BJP may be resisting the belligerent Opposi- tion demanding his scalp but the time for the latter indeed seems to have run out. And their several in- dications to this, the latest being him being not invited to attend the foundation stone laying of the Ganga Expressway by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday in Shahjahanpur, the neighboring district of Lakhimpur Kheri from where Mishra hails is an MP. This is the second slight the controversial minister has received from the party high command. Earlier, he was not invited to the breakfast meeting hosted by PM Modi on Friday for UP parlia- mentarians. About three dozen BJP MPs from poll-bound UP were called by the PM over breakfast as part of an exercise to take their feedback and gauge the public mood but ‘Teni’ was kept out. In fact, the last time Mishra was seen rub- bing shoulders with party heavyweights was in November in Lucknow. He had shared the stage with Union Home minister Amit Shah on the inau- gural day of the All In- dia DGP Conference in the State capital then. No wonder, the state party leadership too has so far excluded him from its scheme of things. Barring Mishra, all the other ministers in the union cabinet who hailed from UP have been en- trusted with election related tasks and or- ganisational meetings held to discusss poll strategy. So what has kept the Damocles Sword hanging over his head from falling? The answer is obvi- ous: UP polls and po- litical fallout of drop- ping Mishra from the team. The ruling party, as also expressed by some observers, appar- ently, wants to “avoid upsetting Brahmins” in the poll-bound state. Sources point to anoth- er factor— “intra-party politics” at play. Sur- prised at Mishra’s en- try in the Modi Cabinet a couple of months ago, a state leader said the new set of charges by the Special Investigat- ing Team in the Lakh- impur Kheri case had made his continuation (as a minister at the Centre) untenable. First India Bureau Lakhimpur Kheri: The lives of Tharu tribe women living in the for- ests of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve of the district is undergoing a positive change owing to the ODOP scheme of the Yogi government. They are not only making the Tharu craft popular in the country as well as abroad but have also got employment through it. Under the One Dis- trict One Product scheme, Tharu Tribal Craft was selected by the UP government with jaggery in the Kheri district. Accord- ing to Aarti Rana of the Tharu tribe, around 5000 women had got employed under the ODOP. Before the scheme, Aarti Rana used to earn her liveli- hood from Dudhwa Ti- ger Reserve and forests by remaining depend- ent on forests. But now Aarti had got work un- der the ODOP scheme of the UP government and has not a minute to spare. Well trained hands of Tharu women in their traditional art were making a mark in the international mar- ket. Rana gained eco- nomic independence by making traditional products and is mak- ing other women like her get employment. Presently, around 5000 women like Aarti have got work by join- ing the ODOP scheme. Some do the work of jute while some manu- facture articles with moonj. District Offic- er Mahendra Singh said that a tool kit had been provided to wom- en by the government. Women in large num- bers are working un- der the scheme, some of whom were also be- ing made master train- ers for going to differ- ent districts of the state and impart train- ing to other women. The ODOP scheme of government had bene- fited a lot of women in this area who were ac- tively participating under it. Tharu tribe is found in abundance around Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. Tribal wom- en had no work earlier but had good knowl- edge of their tradi- tional art and culture, be it handicrafts or wall paintings. To give international recogni- tion to this rural tra- ditional art, the Yogi government chose Tharu Craft under the ODOP scheme. BJP may be resisting the belligerent Oppn demanding his scalp but the time for latter indeed seems to have run out UP POLLS POLITICAL FALLOUT OF DROPPING MISHRA Yogi govt gave wings to Tharu tribe women living in Dudhwa Tiger Reserve First India Bureau Kanpur: To ensure the best output perfor- mance from the Inte- grated Command Control Centre (ICCC) of smart city for im- proving the Traffic Movement Parking of vehicles, Divisional Commissioner Police Commissioner visited ICCC of Smart city of- fice reviewed the Inte- grated Traffic Manage- ment System compo- nents. Div Police Commissioner visit Kanpur Smart City office Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi on padyatra to win back Amethi voters CAEHS COLLEGE OWNER HELD IN `250 CRORE SCAM First India Bureau Lucknow: Evenasrul- ing BJP has been mak- ing determined efforts to completely dislodge Nehru-Gandhis from Amethi and Rai Bareli in 2022 assembly elec- tions, the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi along with AICC gen- eral secretary Priyan- ka Gandhi today hit the streets in Amethi to participate in six- km padyatra to protest against price rise. Rahul-Priyanka move was aimed at re- gaining the lost ground in Amethi and Rai Bareli. Rahul Gan- dhi represented Ame- thi from 2004 to 2019, before his shock de- feat by Union Minister Smriti Irani in 2019 Lok Sabha election. This is the second time Rahul Gandhi visited Amethi after his defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, the first being his thanks- giving visit in July 2019. Party sources said Rahul’s visit to Amethi was “signifi- cant” showed the party’s attempt ener- gise workers ahead of the polls. With Con- gress in a moribund state in UP, Rahul Gandhi’s visit, accord- ing to party sources, was more of an at- tempt to galvanise party cadre in Amethi and Rai Bareli. But with just three months to go to crucial assem- bly elections 2022, there is feeling in the party that the move is too little, too late. Even as the Congress has been desperately trying to retrieve lost ground in Amethi and Rai Bareli in the run up to 2022 elections Union Minister Smri- ti Irani has repeatedly accused Rahul Gan- dhi of neglecting his Amethi Lok Sabha constituency during his tenure as MP for 3 terms. However, the Congress said Irani had resorted to pub- licity stunt as she had failed to do any con- crete work during the last seven years. Amethi continues to be backward district despite being repre- sented by high profile Congress BJP lead- ers over the decades. In 2017 while the Cong had lost all five assem- bly seats in Amethi, it could win just 2 seats in Rai Bareli but now both Congress MLAs Aditi Singh Rakesh Singh have switched over to the BJP. First India Bureau Meerut: Police have ar- rested the owner of the College of Applied Edu- cation and Health Sci- ences (CAEHS) at Ruda- ki road under the Pal- lavpuram police station area into the matter of Rs 250 crore. Police sources here said that complying court’s or- der, police have arrested Satyapal Singh Deshw- al, owner of CAEHS into the fraud matter registered in 2015 in Pal- lavpurampolicestation. It was alleged that Satyapal was involved in Rs 250 to Rs 300 crore land scam of 52 acres. The Indrapan Estate Cooperative Housing Committee Limited, committee on which Satyapal was deputy house commissioner or deputy registrar had il- legally encroached about 52-acre land. We can only know at the end - and then we have to live with this truth. —Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO Editor-in-Chief, First India First India Bureau Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday termed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath useless or “unupyogi”, citing incidents of crimes against Dalits and wom- en under his rule. He made the remark in a tweet, punning on the Hindi word Up-Yogi (useful) as PM Modi called him earlier in the day . In a public address in Shahjahanpur, Modi coined a new slogan “UP plus Yogi bahut hai upyogi” to praise Adi- tyanath for eliminating mafias” and undertak- ing developmental work in the state. In his tweet Akhilesh said, “The daughter of Hathras, the farmers of Lakhim- pur, the trader of Gora- khpur, women who are feeling insecure, unem- ployed youths, the Dal- its, and the backward class (people) are say- ing for UP, the current government is not use- ful, it is useless”. Akhilesh headed Sa- majwadi Party govt in the state from 2012-17 and was succeeded by Yogi. The war of words between BJP and SP continued ahead of cru- cial assembly elections scheduled early next year in the state. Modi was addressing a rally after laying the founda- tion stone of 594-km- long Ganga Expressway in UP’s Shahjahanpur district. The BJP has already declared Adi- tyanath to be its face in the upcoming polls. —FILE PHOTO CURRENT GOVT NOT USEFUL FOR UTTAR PRADESH: AKHILESH Akhilesh yadav takes on PM, CM Yogi Adityanath HIGHLIGHTS ‘UP polls will be fought on issues of social justice, devel’ First India Bureau Jhansi: The upcom- ing assembly elec- tions in UP will be fought on the import- ant issues of social justice and develop- ment, Apna Dal (S) president and Union minister Anupriya Patel said here on Saturday. The minister of state for commerce and industry also said the BJP and Apna Dal (S) coalition govt has worked on these is- sues and people will once again hand over the power to the NDA. Addressing the Vijay Sankalp public at Mauranipur in the district, Patel saluted the great men and warriors of the Bun- delkhand region and asked her party work- ers to fully gear up for the upcoming assem- bly elections. ”Our party is con- tinuously raising the demand for an OBC ministry on the lines of minority ministry for the development of the backwards. And I hope that our prime minister, who is always concerned about the develop- ment of the back- wards and Dalit soci- ety, will fulfil this im- portant demand,” she added. ”In 2022, we have to open the account of our party on the soil of Bundelkhand also. Here too, the blue-saf- fron flag has to be raised high,” she said. First India Bureau Noida: Plots worth Rs 4,500 crore for NOIDA’s Sports City were allot- ted to entities who did not meet the technical eligibility criteria of stipulated net worth, turnover or past expe- rience, a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India report revealed. The CAG’s perfor- mance audit report on ‘Land Acquisition and Allotment of Properties in New Okhla Industri- al Development Author- ity (NOIDA)’, UP govt, which was tabled in the Assembly on Friday, also flagged that the Sports City scheme was launched without ap- provals. New Okhla In- dustrial Development Authority (NOIDA), in deviation from its pri- mary mandate of devel- opment of an industrial township, allotted four plots measuring 33.44 lakh sqm during 2011-16 for the integrated devel- opment of four sports cities to hold marquee sports events like Na- tional Games, Common- wealth Games and Asi- ad Games, it noted. Effortsareontoprove Rahul Gandhi as a leader. In the ‘Mehangai Hatao Maha Rally’ held in Jaipur recently, the grand picture of Sonia Gandhi was on the left in the backdrop of the grand stage, she was also sitting there with Priyanka. Ardent Cong workers kept waiting for her address, but she did not speak in the ral- ly . By being silent, she gave her son moral strength and support. Priyanka was not given much importance in the rally , she spoke as much as Pilot spoke. Rahul got entangled in Hindu and Hindutvadi, whatever he said or wanted to say , most of the people could not understand. Sonia patted him on the back and congratulated him after his speech, as if declaring that real lead- er of party was Rahul. In fact, this behaviour of Sonia was to send a message to the leaders of the party, who are still more fond of Pri- yanka’s leadership abil- itythanRahul’s.Priyan- ka’s personal secy Sand- eep had been preparing for long that in elections of five states, more and more meetings of Pri- yanka should be organ- ised in every state. Pri- yanka’s poll meeting in Goa was a part of this thinking. As per sourc- es,Soniahassummoned Priyanka told her bluntly that she will have to put an end to her lofty political ambitions confine herself only to UP , where there is hardly any ground left for Cong. PRIYANKA VS RAHUL Forthelastthree-four months, the news of a rift between Rahul and his sister Priyanka has been coming out con- tinuously . Sources said that Rahul’s anger is more about Priyanka’s personal secy Sandeep. It may be noted that Sandeep of ‘JNU fame’ is the same who used to be the ‘speech writer’ of Rahul in 2019 LS polls. It is also said that he coined the slogan ‘ C h o w k i d a r Chor Hai’ which was badly back- fired in the elections. This estrangement between brother and sister started with the UP e l e c - t i o n s when two important members of the screen- ing committee of UP -Bhanwar Jitendra Sin- gh and Varsha Gaikwad -filed a complaint with Rahul that there is a lot of confusion in the tick- et distribution in UP and there were rumours of tickets being sold. Re- gardingGadchirolirally also, Rahul was con- stantly complaining that a lot of money has been taken from Chan- drapur in name of Pri- yanka’s rally . Only after this, Priyanka’s Gadchi- roli rally was cancelled at the behest of Rahul. As per sources, Rahul wants to remove Sand- eep, but on suggestion of Alankar Sawai, he has put an end to his in- tentions till UP polls. It is said that Alankar Sawai is as much impor- tant for Rahul as Ahmed Patel was for Sonia. But these days, Rahul is a lit- tle bit miffed with Alankar, as he is getting general complaints from party leaders workers that Alankar does not give them time to meet Rahul. So, after polls of these 5 states, there may be a major re- shuffle in the kitchen cabinet of Rahul and Priyanka. MAKEN EYEING RS SEAT FROM RAJ! Maken is giving credit for success of Congress’s Jaipur rally to himself. He is also trying to take credit for the fact that it was his idea to shift this ‘Me- hengai Hatao Maha ral- ly’ from Delhi to Jaipur. Actually, Maken is eye- ing the RS seat from Ra- jasthan. The seat is go- ing to fall vacant in April when Anand Shar- ma retires. Considering his involvement in G-23, there is very little hope that Sharma will get RS seat again. At the same time,AKAntonyandSK Shinde, who are close to Sonia, are also hoping to get this seat. But these days, what Rahul wants is happening in party who can understand this better than Maken becausethesedays, heis among number one flag bearers of Rahul. CHINTU, MINTU, PINTU ARE RUNNING J’KHAND GOVT In the corridors of power, speculation has been rife for a long time that the Hemant Soren government of Jharkhand is under control by some Chintu, Mintu and Pintu. Sources said that the me- dia advisor to CM Ab- hishek Ku- mar Pintu is the most power- ful in t h e govt, who lives round clock like a shadow with the CM and is said to have a very close rela- tionship with the CM. CM’s secy Vinay also has an upper hand and under his supervision, the new liquor policy in Jharkhand has got shape. NITISH’S FIGHT WITH GUV IN BIHAR Tussle between Bihar Guv Chauhan CM Nitish is escalating. Nit- ish is so angry with his Guv that he has also complained against him to PM. But BJP does not want to trouble Chau- han till polls as Chau- han comes from UP where he has a large vote bank of his Nonia caste. Chauhan, leader of Nonia caste, has made an alliance with Akhilesh’s SP , so BJP Sangh do not want to disturb Phagu in such situation. YOGI’S MODI-BHAKTI Recently, UP CM Yogi was asked, ‘Who does he consid- er to be his ideal?’ He replied with alacrity,” If it is about religion and rites, then my ideals are guru Mahant Avaidhyanath and my parents. And if it is about politics, then my guru is respected Modi.” So, in a way , Yogi has tried to silent peo- ple who were talking about Modi vs Yogi. At the same time, by expos- ing Teni in SIT investi- gation, Yogi has tried to target the number two in BJP . Everyone knows who is standing firmly behind Teni, who is constantly giving him protection in politics. When Teni misbehaved with a TV journalist, it is understood that Shah summoned Teni took his class. So, till polls, Teni seems to be safe. ...AND FINALLY Tariq Anwar wants RS seat from Jharkhand, for this he made his strategy . Tariq has got his close loyalist Rajesh, who is from Bhumihar caste, ap- pointed as the President of Jharkhand Cong. Leader of Bhu- mihar caste, Shy- am Sundar Dheeraj, from the race of state president there. • 11. he term “binge- watch” was a con- tender for the Ox- ford English Dic- tionary’s 2013 word of the year. Al- though it didn’t win(“selfie”ultimatelytook the crown), this pointed to the rise of what was becom- ing a popular activity of watching multiple episodes of a TV show in a single sit- ting. Today , millions of us – in- cluding me – regularly con- sume our favourite series in this way . The proliferation of streaming services over recent years has made it very easy to do. Unsurpris- ingly, during COVID lock- downs, research shows many of us spent more time binge-watching than usual. But can binge-watching become problematic or ad- dictive? And if you can’t tear yourself away, what can you do? P r o b l e m a t i c binge-watching isn’t defined by the number of episodes watched (althoughmostre- searchers agree it’s at least two in a row), or a spe- cific number of hours spent in front of the TV or com- puter screen. As with other addictive behaviours, more important is whether binge- watching is having a nega- tive impact on other aspects of the person’s life. Over many years study- ing addiction, I’ve argued thatalladdictivebehaviours comprise six core compo- nents. In relation to binge- watching, this would mean: 1.Binge-watching is the most important thing in the person’s life (salience) 2. The person engages in binge-watching as a way of reliablychangingtheir mood: to feel better in the short-term or to tempo- rarily escape from some- thing negative in their life (mood modification) 3. Binge-watching compro- mises key aspects of the person’s life like relation- ships and educa- tion or work (conflict) 4. The number of hours the person spends binge- watching each day has increased significantly over time (tolerance) 5. The person experiences psychological and/or physiologicalwithdrawal symptoms if they’re un- abletobinge-watch(with- drawal) 6. If the person manages to temporarily stop binge- watching, when they en- gageintheactivityagain, they go straight back into thecycletheywereinpre- viously (relapse). 10 ETC LUCKNOW | SUNDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2021 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epaper/ I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia Are you binge-watching too much?
