อตฺตนา อกตํ ปาปํ อตฺตนา ว วิสุชฺฌติ
สุทฺธิ อสุทฺธิ ปจฺจตฺตํ นาญฺโญ อญฺญํ วิโสธเย ฯ๑๖๕ฯ
ตนทำ�บาปเอง ตนก็เศร้าหมองเอง ตนไม่ทำ�บาป ตนก็บริสุทธิ์เอง
ความบริสุทธิ์หรือไม่บริสุทธิ์ เป็นของเฉพาะตน
คนอื่นจะให้คนอื่นบริสุทธิ์แทนไม่ได้
By oneself is evil done,
By oneself does one get defiled.
By oneself is evil left undone,
By oneself is one purified.
Purity or impurity depends on oneself.

บทบรรณาธิการ
“กิจฺโฉ มนุสฺสปฏิลาโภ การได้เกิดเป็นมนุษย์เป็นเรื่องยาก..ฯ”
วารสารธรรมรัตน์์กลับมาพบกับญาติธรรมอีกครั้งหนึ่ง ปกติเรามีนัดพบกัน
ทุกๆ 3 เดือน แต่เนื่องจากภารกิจรัดตัวฉบับที่ 14 นี้ ทางวัดจึงถือโอกาสรวมฉบับเดือน
เมษายน-มิถุนายน และฉบับเดือนกรกฎาคม-กันยายนเข้าด้วยกัน
ในรอบหลายเดือนที่ผ่านมา มีกิจกรรมบุญต่างๆ ภายในวัดและนอกวัด มีข่าว
บุญหลายอย่างที่อยากนำ�มาเล่าสู่กันฟัง เริ่มด้วยข่าวบุญเดือนเมษายนที่มีการทำ�บุญ
ประเพณีสงกรานต์ต้นเดือนที่วัดและเดินทางไปร่วมขอพรปีใหม่จากพระเดชพระคุณ
หลวงตาชีที่วัดไทยกรุงวอชิงตัน,ดี.ซี., ส่วนเดือนพฤษภาคมมีงานบุญหล่อพระพุทธ
มงคลรังษี พระประธานของวัด ที่วัดโปรดเกศเชษฐาราม มีญาติโยมชาวเมืองพิทส์
เบิร์กและวอชิงตัน,ดี.ซี.ไปร่วมทำ�บุญมากมาย ในงานนี้มีคนไปร่วมหล่อพระกว่า 3,000
คน งานสำ�เร็จลุล่วงไปด้วยดี เพราะได้รับเมตตาจากครูบาอาจารย์และญาติธรรมทุก
ฝ่ายที่ช่วยกันเตรียมงานจัดงานให้ผ่านไปด้วยดี และปลายเดือนมีงานทำ�บุญวิสาขบูชา
นานาชาติเพื่อรำ�ลึกถึงพระพุทธเจ้า มีชาวพุทธจากวัดและองค์กรพุทธต่างๆ ร่วมกันจัด
งานเฉลิมฉลองกลางเมืองพิทส์เบิร์ก ปีนี้ได้จัดกิจกรรมข้างนอกตัวอาคาร(Outdoor)
เป็นครั้งแรก, เดือนมิถุนายนมีงานทำ�บุญครบรอบ 40 ปีวัดไทยดีซีฯ และ อายุวัฒน
มงคล 90 ปีของพระเดชพระคุณพระราชมงคลรังษี(หลวงตาชี) นอกจากนั้นก็มีงาน
ประชุมประจำ�ปีของคณะสงฆ์ไทยที่อาศัยอยู่ในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาที่วัดไทยลอสแอง
เจลิส, ส่วนเดือนกรกฎาคมนั้นมีการทำ�บุญวันเข้าพรรษา ปีนี้มีพระสงฆ์จำ�พรรษา 2 รูป
คือ พระมหาปิยะ อุตฺตมปญฺโญ และพระมหาสายันต์ อคฺควณฺโณ, หลังจากนั้นก็มีการ
จัดบรรพชาสามเณรภาคฤดูร้อนมีเด็ก 2 คนจากวัดป่าธรรมรัตน์ไปบวชที่วัดไทยดีซีฯ
และได้อบรมด้านการฝึกสมาธิและเรียนพุทธศาสนาร่วมกับสามเณรที่วัดไทยดีซีฯ
เดือนกันยายนวันอาทิตย์ที่ 27 นี้จะมีการทำ�บุญวันสารทและครบรอบ 4 ปีวัด
และเดือนพฤศจิกายน วันอาทิตย์ที่ 1 จะมีการทำ�บญทอดกฐินสามัคคี จึงขอเรียนเชิญ
พุทธศาสนิกชนที่อยู่ในเมืองพิทส์เบิร์กและเมืองใกล้เคียงร่วมทำ�บุญโดยพร้อมกัน
ในเทศกาลเข้าพรรษาทุกวันอาทิตย์เป็นวันสมาธิ ขอเชิญญาติธรรมทุกท่าน
ร่วมพัฒนาชีวิตจิตใจด้วยการเจริญสติ และทุกวันมีการสวดมนต์นั่งสมาธิเช้า-เย็น ถ้า
ญาติโยมท่านใดประสงค์จะมาร่วมสวดมนต์นั่งสมาธิ และสนทนาธรรมกับพระสงฆ์
สามารถมาร่วมได้ตลอดเวลา ก่อนจะมาก็โทรศัพท์มาสอบถามทางวัดก่อนเพื่อความ
แน่ใจว่าพระสงฆ์ไม่ติดกิจนิมนต์นอกวัด และติดตามกิจกรรมต่างๆได้ที่เว็บไซด์และเฟส

C. Good Knowledge
Good knowledge is clear understanding of cause and effect, good and
bad kamma, and what is beneficial (kusala) and non-beneficial (akusala) for hu-
man beings. Buddhism praises those who use their wisdom in living a life that
brings honor. Wisdom is the guiding light for a life led in the right direction, a
life that is worthwhile, that brings blessings to oneself and to society. Therefore,
the good Buddhist should continue to make the practice more perfect and develop
knowledge. This, too, is inside-out training.
The following are ways to develop knowledge:
1. The good Buddhist should trust in the wisdom of the Buddha. In knowing
that the Buddha did indeed reach Enlightenment, we respectfully use him as a
model for living everyday life. We believe that we are able to continue to look
for further knowledge.
2. The good Buddhist should have the right mind, knowing what is right and
wrong, good and bad, wholesome and beneficial, and unwholesome and nonben-

3. The good Buddhist should believe in kamma. Kamma is volition (willing),
and our actions in terms of the body, speech, and the mind depend on our will-
ing. Good action leads to good results; poor action leads to poor results. So it is
important to be mindful
of one’s actions, whether
these actions involve
the body, speech, or the
mind. In one’s thoughts
and words and deeds,
one has to be aware of
not harming others.
4. The good Buddhist
should find refuge in the
Buddha’s teaching and
not just depend on what
people say when problems arise in life. One should ask oneself, “For this situ-
ation, what did the Buddha teach? What was his way of solving the problem?”
Once this is understood, then one follows the Buddha’s teaching.
5. The good Buddhist should have respect for others and treat them the way
he or she wants to be treated.
6. The good Buddhist should understand the three characteristics of all things:
they all change, are impermanent (อนิจจัง); they are full of suffering (dukkha) (not
satisfactory) (ทุกขัง); and there is no self to be found anywhere among existing
things that can control these things (อนัตตา), things that will continue to change in
terms of cause and effect. Accept, without getting upset or sad, that this is the
way things are.
7. The good Buddhist should be thankful to those who have been kind and
helpful, even in little things. He or she should do the same thing to others in
return. This is what the Lord Buddha and the monk Sariputta have shown as the
model for being thankful.
8. The good Buddhist should live life moderately (in the middle), following
the Noble Eightfold Path, the Middle Way, which is the way to true happiness.
This way has the power of what is “right”:
• Right view, or right understanding: being able to see the good, the bad,

the wholesome and beneficial, and the unwholesome and nonbeneficial;
being able to see things in life and nature as they are, for example, in
terms of the Four Noble Truths (dukkha, the origin of dukkha, the end of
dukkha, and the path leading to the end of dukkha)
• Right thought: intending to get rid of sensual desires and not to be over-
come by sensual pleasures, revenge, or making problems for others; trying
to establish good, positive thinking, which helps to make merit
• Right speech: speaking the truth, speaking gently, and speaking what
brings harmony with other human beings
• Right action: acting in a good way, not doing any harm to human beings
and other living things, not stealing, and being able to control one’s sensual
desires in order to do no harm to self or others
• Right livelihood: having a good job or business that does not make prob-
lems for others, and avoiding dishonest occupations such as the selling
of guns, human beings, poison, alcohol, and drugs
• Right effort: staying away from what is unwholesome, overcoming what
is unwholesome in oneself, developing what is wholesome, and keeping
in existence what is wholesome in oneself
• Right mindfulness: being aware of the breathing in and breathing out;
being aware in daily life of one’s feelings, thoughts, and states of mind
• Right concentration: having the mind pay attention to what one is doing,
for example, working on the job or studying at school, so that one’s ef-
forts are successful; concentrating on the breathing in and breathing out
in meditation to calm the mind
9. The good Buddhist should understand the cycle of life: that all things de-
cay, become ill, die; that we lose our loved ones; and that whatever kamma we
have made will sooner or later produce its results in life. Understanding all these
things, we should accept them and not get sad about them.
10. The good Buddhist understands that human beings have both mind and
body (nama and rupa). To body belong the four elements, earth (the solid element),
water (the liquid element), fire (heat), and wind (motion). To mind belong sense
consciousness, thinking, thoughts, and knowledge. Both ways of being human are
related and inseparable. The good Buddhist understands that the mind directs all
things and so develops his or her mind to act in the proper way.
11. The good Buddhist should understand that the conditions in life bring
happiness, unhappiness, good fortune, bad fortune, success, and failure. Nothing
in life is permanent; nothing is forever: absolutely everything comes and goes.
This is the way life is, and if we can learn to understand and accept this, we will
have freedom and peace.
Conclusion
The Good Buddhist has laid out a guide for those who want to learn and
to develop themselves. Those who follow the Buddha’s teaching can overcome
the sufferings of life and find true happiness. The main topics above were good
behavior, a good heart, and good knowledge. Generally speaking, good behavior
was about morality (sila), a good heart was about concentration (samadhi), and
good knowledge was about wisdom (panya). Morality, concentration, and wisdom
are the three parts of the threefold training in Buddhism.
If we follow the threefold training, we follow the Noble Eightfold Path: mo-
rality is made up of right speech, right action, and right livelihood; concentration
is made up of right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration; and wisdom
is made up of right view and right thought. The Noble Eightfold Path brings us
along the way to Enlightenment.***

ปัญหา ทางพระพุทธศาสนาจัดแบ่งความสุขออกเป็นระดับต่างๆ อย่างไรบ้าง?
พุทธดำ�รัสตอบ “.....ดูก่อนอานนท์ กามคุณ ๕ นี้เป็นไฉน คือรูปอันจะพึงรู้ด้วย
จักษุ..... เสียงอันจะพึงรู้ด้วยโสตะ.... กลิ่นอันจะถึงรู้ด้วยฆานะ... รสอันจะพึงรู้ด้วยชิวหา...
โผฏฐัพพะอันจะพึงรู้ด้วยกาย อันสัตว์ปรารถนาใคร่พอใจเป็นที่รัก ประกอบด้วยกามเป็นที่
ตั้งแห่งความกำ�หนัด ดูก่อนอานนท์นี้แลกามคุณ ๕ สุขโสมนัสอันใด ย่อมเกิดขึ้นเพราะอาศัย
กามคุณ ๕ นี้ สุขและโสมนัสนี้ เรากล่าวว่ากามสุข
“ดูก่อนอานนท์ เราไม่ยอมรับรู้ถ้อยคำ�ของผู้ที่กล่าวอย่างนี้ว่า สัตว์ทั้งหลายย่อม
เสวยสุขโสมนัส มีกามสุขนี้เป็นอย่างยิ่ง ข้อนั้นเพราะเหตุไร เพราะสุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและ
ประณีตกว่าสุขนี้ยังมีอยู่
“ดูก่อนอานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่า สุขนี้เป็นไฉน.... ภิกษุในพระธรรม
วินัยนี้ สงัดจากกาม สงัดจากอกุศลธรรม บรรลุปฐมฌาน มีวิตกวิจาร ปีติและสุขเกิดแต่วิเวก
อยู่ นี้แล อานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุขนี้.....
“ดูก่อนอานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่า และประณีตกว่าสุขนี้ยังมีอยู่.... สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่า
และประณีตกว่า สุขนี้เป็นไฉน ดูก่อนอานนท์ ภิกษุในธรรมวินัยนี้บรรลุทุติยฌาน มีความ
ผ่องใสแห่งจิตใจภายในเป็นธรรมเอกผุดขึ้น ไม่มีวิตกไม่มีวิจาร เพราะวิตก วิจารสงบไป มีปีติ
และสุขเกิดแต่สมาธิอยู่นี้แล อานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุขนี้....
“ดูก่อนอานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุขนั้นเป็นไฉน ดูก่อนอานนท์
ภิกษุในธรรมวินัยนี้ มีอุเบกขา มีสติสัมปชัญญะ และเสวยสุขด้วยนามกาย เพราะปีติสิ้นไป
บรรลุตติยฌานที่พระอริยทั้งหลายสรรเสริญกว่าผู้ได้ฌานนี้เป็นผู้มีอุเบกขา มีสติอยู่เป็นสุข
นั้นแล อานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุขนี้.....
“ดูก่อนอานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุขนั้นเป็นไฉน ดูก่อนอานนท์
ภิกษุในธรรมวินัยนี้ บรรลุจตุตถฌาน ไม่มีทุกข์ ไม่มีสุข เพราะละสุขละทุกข์และดับโสมนัส
และโทมนัสก่อนๆ ได้ มีอุเบกขาเป็นเหตุให้สติบริสุทธิ์ นี้แล อานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและ
ประณีตกว่าสุขนี้.....
“ดูก่อนอานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุขนั้นเป็นไฉน.... ภิกษุในธรรม
วินัยนี้ บรรลุวิญญาณัญจายตนฌาน ด้วยมนสิการว่าวิญญาณไม่มีที่สิ้นสุด เพราะล่วงอากา
สานัญจายตนะได้โดยประการทั้งปวงอยู่ นี้แล อานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุข
นี้.....
“ดูก่อนอานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุขนั้นเป็นไฉน.... ภิกษุในพระ
ธรรมวินัยนี้ บรรลุอากิญจัญญายตนฌาน ด้วยมนสิการว่า หน่อยหนึ่งไม่มีเพราะล่วง
วิญญาณัญจายตนะได้โดยประการทั้งปวงอยู่นี้แล อานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่า
สุขนี้.....
“ดูก่อนอานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุขนั้นเป็นไฉน.... ภิกษุในพระ
ธรรมวินัยนี้ บรรลุเนวสัญญานาสัญญาตนฌาน เพราะล่วงอากิญจัญญายตนะได้ โดย
ประการทั้งปวงอยู่ นี้แล อานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุขนี้.....
“ดูก่อนอานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุขนั้นเป็นไฉน.... ภิกษุในพระ
ธรรมวินัยนี้ บรรลุสัญญาเวทยิตนิโรธ เพราะล่วงเนวสัญญานาสัญญาตนะได้ โดยประการทั้ง
ปวงอยู่นี้แล อานนท์ สุขอื่นที่ดียิ่งกว่าและประณีตกว่าสุขนี้.....

กิจกรรมเดือนเมษายน
5 เม.ย.2558 วัดป่าธรรมรัตน์จัดทำ�บุญประเพณีสงกรานต์สัปดาห์แรกของเดือน
มีพระสงฆ์จากวัดศรีลังกามาร่วมงานด้วย 2 รูปรวมเป็น 4 รูปด้วยกัน ญาติโยมมาทำ�บุญ
ตักบาตร ฟังเทศน์ สรงน้ำ�พระ และรดน้ำ�ขอพรผู้ใหญ่ในวันปีใหม่ของชาวเอเชียจำ�นวนมาก
6 เม.ย.2558 ขออนุโมทนาบุญนักศึกษาไทยในเมืองพิทส์เบิร์ก มีน้องปุ้ย-น้อง
เนย-น้องโจ มาช่วยเข้าเล่มทำ�หนังสือ Buddhism in Pittsburgh จำ�นวน 300 เล่ม เป็น
หนังสือรวบรวมคำ�สอนในพระพุทธศาสนาย่อๆ และข้อมูลวัดในเมืองพิทส์เบิร์ก เพื่อแจกใน
งานวันวิสาขบูชานานาชาติ
9-11 เม.ย.2558 พระมหาปิยะ อุตฺตมปญฺโญ หัวหน้าสงฆ์วัดป่าธรรมรัตน์ ได้รับ
นิมนต์จากวัดนวมินทรราชูทิศให้ไปช่วยสอนสมาธิในงานปฏิบัติธรรมนานาชาติ และร่วมงาน

10 พ.ค.2558 งานบุญหล่อพระพุทธมงคลรังษี พระประธานประจำ�วัดป่าธรรม
รัตน์ ที่วัดโปรดเกศเชษฐาราม จ.สมุทรปราการ ในงานได้รับเมตตาจากเจ้าประคุณสมเด็จ
พระพุทธชินวงศ์ เจ้าคณะหนกลาง กรรมการมหาเถรสมาคม เป็นประธานฝ่ายสงฆ์ใน
งาน มีญาติโยมจากวัดไทยกรุงวอชิงตัน,ดี.ซี.และวัดป่าธรรมรัตน์เดินทางไปร่วมงานด้วยกัน
มากมาย มีพุทธศาสนิกชนทั้งพระสงฆ์และญาติโยมมาร่วมทำ�บุญกว่า 3,000 คน ทำ�ให้งาน

"วันสารท"เป็นการทำ�บุญกลางเดือนสิบ เพื่อนำ�เครื่องอุปโภค
บริโภคไปถวายพระ เป็นการอุทิศส่วนกุศลแก่บรรพบุรุษของตนผู้
ล่วงลับ ภาษาบาลีว่า "เปตชน" ภาษาชาวบ้านว่า "เปรต" ซึ่งหมาย
ถึง ผู้ที่รับความทุกข์ทรมานจากวิบากแห่งบาปกรรมที่ทำ�ไว้ในเมือง
มนุษย์ คนข้างหลังจึงต้องทำ�บุญอุทิศให้ปีละครั้งเป็นการเฉพาะ
ทั้งนี้ยังได้ผนวกการทำ�บุญครบรอบ 4 ปี การก่อตั้งวัดป่าธรรมรัตน์

Sart Ceremony is the Memorial day of the people
in South-East Asia. This is the time for Asian to do merit-
making for their ancestors was passed away. In the end
of this month it is the 4th
anniversary of BMCP. We are
welcome all of you to join us.
Program
10:00 a.m. Religious ceremony including chanting,
request five precepts, and Parita Chanting
10:30 a.m. Offering of food in the alms-bowl or
Pindapata
10.45 a.m. Dhamma Talk by Phrakhrusiriatthavides,
Lunch offering to the monks
11:30 a.m. Lunch served to the guests.
12:30 p.m. Pangsukula or lay a robe dedicated to a
deceased person, blessing from the monks.
