New Delhi: Union Minister of Science and
Technology and the minister for the
Ministry of Earth Science (MOES) Dr.
Harsh Vardhan, inaugurated the 12th
International Symposium on Antarctic
Earth Sciences (ISAES) at a function in
Goa. Scientific scheduled for five days.
Speaking on the occasion he said, Indian
scientific expeditions to the continent
hosting the southernmost frozen continent
began nearly 35 years ago considering
the fact that nature does not recognize
political boundaries. Global influences on
climate today have further proven this
point.
Prof. Jeronimo Lopez-Martinez,
President, Scientific Committee on
Antarctic Research (SCAR), was the
guest of honour on the occasion.
The Themes for the Symposium include
Antarctica and Supercontinent Evolution,
Antarctic Surface Processes,
Landscapes, and Links with Cryosphere
and Climate, Antarctic Solid Earth
Structure and Interactions with the
Cryosphere: Antarctica, the Southern
Ocean, and Evolution of Climate and the
Global Cryosphere, amongst others.
The International symposium on Antarctic
Earth Sciences (ISAES) is a SCAR-initia-
tive aimed at showcasing Antarctic geo-
science research, taking stock of the
accomplishments of the International fra-
ternity and providing guidance for future
studies. The first ISAES was organised
way back in 1963 at Cape Town, and the
last one (11th) at Edinburgh, with the
Symposium traversing through Oslo,
Madison, Adelaide, Cambridge, Tokyo,
Siena, Wellington, Potsdam and Santa
Barbara. In its 50-year history, Japan has
been the only Asian country to hold it with
India being bestowed the honor to host
the 12th such International symposium
now. Secretary, MOES Dr. Shailesh
Nayak, will be presenting India’s perspec-
tive on geosciences research at the sym-

Union Minister of
Road Transport &
Highways Shri
Nitin Gadkari will
be visiting
Udhampur in
Jammu & Kashmir
to witness the
opening of India's
longest road tun-
nel that will cut the
Jammu to
Srinagar distance
by 30 kms and
reduce traffic jams
on National
Highway-1A that occur due to snowfall and avalanche in
winter at Patnitop. Shri Gadkari will be present at the
final blast ceremony when the National Highway
Authority of India (NHAI) engineers will drill a hole
through the final section of the tunnel between Chenani
and Nashri.
The state-of-the-art tunnel is simultaneously being built
from the two ends and the NHAI teams will meet at the
centre by drilling a hole through the final section. The
9.2 km tunnel, which is part of the ambitious 286 km-
long four-laning of the Jammu-Srinagar national high-
way, will reduce the distance between two cities —
Jammu and Srinagar — by around 30 km. The road is
likely to be opened to traffic in July next year. Work on
the tunnel was started on May 23, 2011. The tunnel,
connecting Chenani in Udhampur with Nashri in
Ramban district, is being completed at a cost of over Rs
2500 crore. It will also reduce the existing road distance
between two points on the highway from 41 km to 10.89
km.
The NHAI is also constructing a parallel escape tunnel
along with the main tunnel for evacuation of commuters
in case of eventuality.

There was a time when
people thought that it was
not necessary to educate
girls. Now we have begun
to realize that girls’ educa-
tion is essential. The mod-
ern age is the age of
awakening of girls. They
are trying to compete with
men in all spheres of life.
There are many people
who oppose girls’ educa-
tion. They say that the
proper sphere of girls is the
home. So, they argue that
the money spent on girl’s
education is wasted. This
view is wrong, because
girl’s education can bring
about a silent resolution in
the society.
Importance of girls
Education:
There is several advantage
of girls’ education. Grown
up educated girls can play
an important role in the
development of their coun-
try. They can share the
burden of men in the differ-
ent walk of life. They can
serve the society as teach-
ers, lawyers, doctors and
administrators. They can
play an important role dur-
ing war.
Education is a boon to girls
in this age of economic cri-
sis. Gone are the days of
plenty and prosperity.
Now-a-days it is difficult for
the people of the middle
class to make both ends
meet. After marriage, edu-
cated girls can add to the
income of their husbands.
If a woman is educated,
she can earn a living after
the death of her husband.
Girls’ education is neces-
sary for making our homes
happy places. Our home
life would be brightened if
we had well-educated
wives and mother.
Educated girls can bright-
en the future of their coun-
try by the good upbringing
of their children. Education
gives a woman freedom of
thought. It broadens her
outlook and makes her
aware of her duties and
responsibilities.
Suggestions: Many people
say that girls should not go
in for degrees.
They are wrong, because
girls have already proved
their worth in all walks of
life. There is no reason
why girls should not get
the same kind of education
as men. But they should
not neglect their duties at
the home. So, girls must
have knowledge of
domestic science and
child psychology.
ImportanceofGirl’sEducation
India is a country known for its rich
tradition, culture and values. We
are known all over the world for
our great music and dance forms.
In fact our God of dance is ‘Natraj’
and our most flirtatious Lord
Krishna is also known for his ‘Ras
Leelas’. Before we perform any
form of Indian dances we pray to
the lord of dance ‘Lord Shiva’,
Shiva known for the magnificent
Tandav. But inspite of our dance
gods being all male dancers
Indian men are shy to dance, they
feel that dance is not for men or
what you hear most often ‘Real
Men do not Dance.’
But is this true is the question.
What makes us men feel that we
have two left feet. Is it our upbring-
ing or is it the society we live in
and are morns and myths. Most
men who go to a dance class are
either looked down upon or are
made to feel that they are doing a
‘Girlie thing.’ Who decides if it’s a
‘Girlie thing’, I am sure Lord Shiva
and Krishna did not feel so when
they began to dance.
Today with the western dance
forms getting popular, male
dancers are getting out of their
shell and stepping into their danc-
ing shoes. But do they still face
criticism and emotional lectures
from families before stepping
onto the dance floor of a class.
With my experience of teaching
dancing to thousands of students
in India, I would say ‘Yes.’
Even today when a boy walks
onto the dance floor first question
he asks is ‘Will I be able to
dance’, ‘Is it very difficult’, ‘I am
here because my ladylove wants
me to dance.’ These questions
make me feel that we men doubt
our learning capabilities. But just
the effort that he has taken to
come to a class makes me feel
that there is HOPE.
Many men feel that it’s the
upbringing that makes them think
this way. From a very young age
they are made to stay away from
dance and dancing stuff.
Their parents tell then to go out
and play various games and
sports without being aware that
some form of western dances like
Latin and Ballroom are a part of
Olympic Games. Later some of
their male friends discourage
then from dancing saying only
girls learn to dance. But do they
realize that best way to woo
women is on the dance floor, and
it’s a great way to share an emo-
tional bond. Like cigarettes and
coffee breaks gets people
together, dance is also another
form that creates great bond.
Today men are showing great
interest in learning various
dance forms, mainly because
they want to impress girls, but
when they take it up seriously
their wrong attitude changes and
they start to learn dance for the
sake of self pleasure and expres-
sion. I am sure that soon the
myth ‘Real Men do not Dance’ will
break one day and we will see
‘Men do the Real Dance’
Dos and Don’ts of starting to
dance:
Do not worry about what the
world will think, just follow your
heart
Join a good dance class (depend-
ing on what style you are inspired
to learn)
Be open to learning new steps
and hand moves.
Once in class, initially one feels
shy to dance, so do not bother
about that, remember all your
batch mates are new dancers
In case you are not getting the
step, relax, ‘Rome was not built in
one day’
Dress correctly (clothes and
shoes) for the class, it is very
important to feel right.
Make friends in the class and go
out dancing with them, you will
learn more watching others dance
too
Practice what you learn daily,
remember ‘practice makes one
perfect’
Understand the mood and atti-
tude of your dance, try to bring it
out in your body language,
remember ‘Dance expression is
most important’
Use your dancing skills to make
new friends and not to show off
your skills to others, ‘a show off
dancer does not go a long way’.
Do Real Men Dance?
Vaidehi Taman
Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s
(VHP) international president
Ashok Singhal has demand-
ed a nation-wide ban on cow
slaughter. He emphasised
that protection of cows are
necessary for the nation’s
progress and said “by ban-
ning cow slaughter India will
become a Hindu nation by
2020”. BJP government in
Gujarat demolished hundreds
of temples in the name of
development and Rajasthan
too followed the same policy.
Modi, the ‘so called’ Hindu
icon, had changed his tone
and has randomly started
appeasing Muslims.
However, some Hindu radical
groups stuck to beef ban and
are connecting it with nation’s
progress.
The idea of ahimsa seems to
have made its first appear-
ance in the Upanisadic
thought and literature.
Gautama Buddha and
Mahavira had vehemently
challenged the efficacy of the
Vedic animal sacrifice. Thus,
although both Buddhism,
and, to a greater extent,
Jainism contributed to the
growth of ahimsa doctrine,
neither seems to have devel-
oped the sacred cow concept
independently. The practice
of flesh eating and killing cat-
tle for food was customary
right through the Gupta peri-
od and later is sufficiently
borne out by references to it
found in the Puranas and the
Epics. Strange but verified,
most of the characters in the
Mahabharata are meat
eaters. Draupadi promised to
Jayadratha and his retinue
that Yudhisthira would pro-
vide them with a variety of
game including gayal, sam-
bara and buffalo.
It’s interesting to note that
Ayurveda provides an impres-
sive list of fish and animals
and speak about the thera-
peutic uses of beef.
Somesvara shows clear pref-
erence for pork over other
meats. Similarly, the
Dharmasastra commentaries
and religious digests from the
ninth century permit beef in
specific circumstances. Most
consider this as a disapproval
of the cow slaughter and
meat eating in general.
Others put it in the context of
demons and evil spirits
(Yātudhāna) stealing the cat-
tle and the milk, and mention
that the beef eating was com-
mon in the Vedic times.
Though alternative transla-
tions by Swami Dayananda
Saraswati reject such claims
and give the ‘correct’ interpre-
tations and translations in the
light of the Brahmanas and
Vedangas. According to
Dayananda and Yaska, the
author of Nirukta (Vedic
Philology), Yātudhāna means
Cattle -eaters (Yātu – Cattle /
flesh of Cattle + Udhāna –
eaters/ consumers). Multiple
Rigvedic verses, contain ref-
erences to the slaughter of
cattle, horses and other ani-
mals, as well as meat eating;
however, translation is debat-
ed and doubtful. The Atharva
Veda bans only the eating of
the raw flesh and the human
flesh. The Yajurveda men-
tions Ashvamedha or the
horse sacrifice, and even
Purushamedha or the human
sacrifice (Yajurveda (VS
30–31)). The Purushamedha
or human sacrifice was purely
ritualistic, and there is no
proof of a human ever being
sacrificed.
Eating any meat is a subject
of personal preference which
comes under the
Fundamental right afforded
by the Constitution of India.
As per the Constitution, when
it was written post India’s
Independence, the beef
slaughter was written into the
constitution as a state sub-
ject; that is, every state can
exercise its right to ban or
allow cow slaughter. I must
remind you that this ban or no
ban of cow slaughter is only
for trade. Even in a banned
state, one can kill a cow and
eat its meat and share it with
others without trading it for
monetary gain. This is part of
every citizen-of-India’s
Fundamental Right guaran-
teed by the constitution,
which cannot by banned by
any legislative body like the
parliament or assembly.

Illegal liquor shops bugging industrial-
ists, workers in Okhla Industrial Area
cnp bureau
New Delhi- The officials
and workers of Delhi’s
Okhla Industrial Area are
under constant fear of
drunken people, owing the
increasing number of wine
and beer shops in the
area, due to which they
prefer to leave early in the
evening. The Okhla based
industrialists hail the infra-
structural development but
complain that there are
approximately 150 illegal
beer and wine shops in the
area with 2-3 shops in
each block.
President of Okhla
Industrial Area, Harish
Arora, told KNN, Despite
the infrastructural develop-
ment in the Okhla
Industrial Area, the indus-
try is in under constant fear
and threat of the drunken
truck drivers who eventual-
ly have occupied the roads
in the area for parking their
trucks. Arora said the well-

Bio Ethanol will focus on issues and hur-
dles being faced by the sector and dwell on
how to overcome these hurdles for effec-
tive implementation of the blending pro-
gram across the country. The session on

Bio Fuel Programme in India –TheWay Forward
New Delhi: Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Agriculture
Minister has urged the cooperatives to play a significant
role in the implementation of initiatives taken by
Government for the welfare of the people. This they can
do by providing better services to members associated
with them. The Minister said, Soil Health Card and
Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana are some of such
schemes which would change the life of people. He said
this while inaugurating Sahakari Agricultural Mela as part
of the centenary celebrations of the Amaragol Primary
Agriculture Credit Cooperative Society at Amargol in
Karnataka today. On the occasion Minister for Chemicals
& Fertilizer, Shri Ananat Kumar President, Amargol
Primary Agriculture Credit Cooperative Society, senior
officials of the Karnataka Government & Government of
India and delegates of various cooperative organiza-
tions, were present.
Shri Radha Mohan said Cooperatives should play signif-
icant role in the implementation of development schemes
New Delhi: Ministry of Steel
and Ministry of Mines signed
Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) with
Ministry of Skill Development
& Entrepreneurship, for coop-
eration on Skill Development
in New Delhi . Speaking on
the occasion, the Minister of
Steel & Mines Shri Narendra
Singh Tomar said that unem-
ployment is a big challenge
for the country and present
government has given it due
importance by setting up a
Ministry of Skill Development.
He stated, “It is indeed heart-
ening that ministries of steel
and mines are in a position to
contribute to this national
cause and are taking con-
crete steps in this direction.
Both the ministries will facili-
tate fulfilment of stated objec-
tives, by encouraging active
participation of central public
sector enterprises and affiliat-
ed institutions. This will
include budget allocation,
course alignment, utilisation
of idle infrastructure for train-
ing, maximising apprentice-
ship, skill certification and
recognition of prior learning.”
The Minister of State for Skill
Development &
E n t r e p r e n e u r s h i p
(Independent Charge) and
Parliamentary Affairs, Shri
Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that
steel and mines are two
important sectors where skill
development potential exists.
He expressed gratitude to
Shri Tomar for extending sup-
port to meet the incremental
requirement of manpower in
these sectors.
Unemployment is a big
challenge for the country
India currently has two permanent stations, Maitri at
Schirmacher oasis and Bharati in the Larsemann Hill
area located ~1000km east of Maitri. The first Indian
station, Dakshin Gangotri, located on shelf ice is
now buried and lost.
Earth science and related activities have constituted
not only an integral but an unbroken part of Indian
expeditions. Globally the scientific progress and
state of the studies in earth sciences is reviewed in
a gathering of all polar nations at an interval of four
years in the form of International Symposium on
Antarctic Earth Science (ISAES). A total of 11 such
symposiums have been held since 1963.
Antarctica is recognized as a heritage of mankind
and as mandated by the provisions of the Antarctic
treaty, signed by 29 consultative parties, no com-
mercial activity is permitted in Antarctica and its
environment and all claims to its territory are frozen.
The scientific programs of this natural polar labora-
tory are designed and approved by the Scientific
Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) which has
a President and two to three vice-presidents and a
small secretariat located at Cambridge, England.
The science research programs are proposed and
co-ordinated by three standing scientific groups
(SSG’s) on Geosciences (GS), life sciences (LS)
and physical sciences (PS) each having three chief
officers.
ISAES symposium at Goa represents truly an inter-
national effort with participation from nearly 40
countries of around 400 scientists nearly equally
divided between the overseas and the Indian partic-
ipants. The deliberations through over thirty ses-
sions in five days are expected to lead to consolida-
tion of the status of scientific studies and provide
guidance for future research. Of particular interest is
the nature of sub-ice rocks as 98% of Antarctica is
covered by ice with an average thickness of ~2000m
and large areas of continent are not accessible to
direct observation. This information is crucial to pre-
dict the behaviour of melting of ice which in the
eventuality of complete melting is estimated to lead
to the global sea level rise of ~60m. It is only one
example of the significance of studies on Antarctic
science. Both the atmosphere over Antarctica as
well as the ocean surrounding this southern conti-
nent has strong influences on global weather pat-
terns and ocean currents which directly affect the
mankind.
The two-way interaction between the global and
Indian polar scientific community is expected to lead
to reinvigoration of Indian Antarctic programs.

9. The British Foreign & Commonwealth Office
has changed its level of advice to Tunisia and
now advises against all but essential travel to
the country.
The decision comes as a result of the ongoing
investigation into the events that took place in
Tunisia, with a further attack believed to be
“highly likely”.
ABTA estimates there are around 3,000 cus-
tomers currently on holiday with its members
in Tunisia, but there will also be a number of
holidaymakers who have travelled independ-
ently.
Most travel companies have been allowing
customers with holidays booked to Tunisia to
cancel or amend their booking following the
incident last month so the numbers are signif-
icantly down for
this time of
year; although
some have cho-
sen to continue
with their holi-
days.

commit itself to an inspiring
new development agenda,
including a set of sustain-

ISISPakistan has decided against call the
Middle Eastern terrorist outfit by its
“Islamic State” preferred name and
instead refer to it as “Daesh”, an Arabic
acronym the group hates.
“I would refer to the outfit as Daesh as
there is nothing Islamic about it,” foreign
office spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said in
reply to a question at his weekly media
briefing.
The foreign ministry previously had been
using both IS and Daesh in its statements.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius
was among the first leaders who avoided
calling the group with its preferred name
and US and Australian leaders followed.
There have also been calls by Muslim
scholars to call the group Daesh in a
move to de-legitimise it.
The group likes to be called Islamic State
because it negates the concept of borders
and promotes a vision of one Muslim
caliphate. It also suggests existence of a
central authority instead of roving groups
of mercenaries. Daesh is an Arabic
acronym for “Al Dawla al Islamyia fil Iraq
wal Sham”, the group`s original name,
which when translated, means “Islamic
State in Iraq and Syria” or “Islamic State in
Iraq and the Levant”.
But the group feels offended when it is
called Daesh and threatened to cut the
tongues of those who used it. Daesh has
now become an insult in Arabic and was
used to refer to extremists, who can even
kill to impose their belief on others.
Pakistani officials have always denied the
existence of the group in the country, but
have said they were on alert against its
emergence. A number of extremist groups
in the country have expressed their loyal-
ty to the group which is trying to establish
a foothold in Afghanistan.
“Pakistan has alerted its security agencies
to the threat posed by Daesh. Our author-
ities are vigilant and have been advised to
take necessary action in this regard, if
required,” Khalilullah said.
It is Daesh, not Islamic State, for Pakistan
A stampede during a charity handout in Bangladesh left
at least 23 people dead as hundreds of desperately poor
people tried to get their hands on free clothing, police
said.
The stampede in the northern city of Mymensingh erupt-
ed when crowds of people tried to force their way into a
factory compound through a small gate after massing
outside before dawn, according to local police chiefs.
Television footage from the site showed scenes of utter
devastation, with hundreds of torn and blood-spattered
sandals abandoned at the gate of the factory, which pro-
duces chewing tobacco.
“We have so far recovered 23 bodies. Most of the dead
are poor and emaciated women,” Mymensingh police
chief Moinul Haque said, putting the number of injured at
four. Kamrul Islam, the senior officer at a police station
near the factory, said the death toll was likely to rise fur-
ther while local media said scores of people had also
been injured.
“Some people had taken the bodies of their relatives
before police arrived at the scene,” Islam said.
The owner of the factory and six other people have been
arrested for failing to ensure public safety, Islam added.
Police said up to 1,500 people had massed outside the
factory at around 4:45 am (2245 GMT on Thursday) after
the owners had announced they would distribute free
clothes to poor people in accordance with Islamic ritual.

Over one million people were affected by the torrential
rainstorms brought by typhoon Linfa, which hit south
China’s Guangdong province, a media report.
The typhoon, which made landfall, caused around 288
houses to collapse and 56,000 people were displaced
after the storm caused a direct economic loss of 1.3 bil-
lion yuan ($213 million), the Guangdong Civil Affairs
Department said.
No casualties have been reported, Xinhua news agency
reported. Linfa landed in the coastal area of Shanwei
city, with winds of up to 126 km per hour. More than 130
townships in five cities were affected by downpours.
The country is currently on high alert for super typhoon
Chan-hom, which is forecast to land in the coastal area
between eastern Fujian and Zhejiang provinces with
winds of up to 208 km per hour.

From his spartan room in the
Maghazi refugee camp in the
Gaza Strip, 18-year-old
Abdalla al-Haddad could
glimpse a narrow chance at a
better life: it was less than a
mile and a 3-1/2-metre fence
away.
So on a chilly night in
February, he and a friend
made a dash for it, scram-
bling over the heavily secured
steel and wire barrier that
separates Gaza from Israel.
“I was not thinking,” he told
Reuters, back in the three-
room home he shares with 11
family members.
“Ten minutes after we
jumped, illumination rounds
were fired, there was a lot of
gunfire and we were sur-
rounded by Israeli army
forces, who arrested us,” he
said.
He spent the next three
months in an Israeli jail.
“I was desperate because
there is no work in Gaza,” he
explained, describing his
daily life as sleeping and
playing football, with little
prospect of finding a job.
While it is by no means a
mass phenomenon, a rising
number of Palestinians are
trying their luck at jumping
the fence from Gaza into
Israel. Barely a week goes
by without a report from
Israeli security forces of
another attempt.
The Israeli military says it
has caught 130 in the past
year. It won`t provide com-
parative figures, but the
anecdotal evidence from
Gazans and organisations
that monitor the trend is that
numbers have been climbing
steadily.
Poverty and the lack of
prospects in Gaza are driv-
ing young people to take
ever-greater risks.
That is particularly true after
last year`s war between
Israel and Hamas, in which
the economy and infrastruc-
ture took another devastating
hit.
In May, the World Bank said
Gaza`s economy was in the
worst state in the world, with
the world`s highest unem-
ployment rate at 43 percent,
rising to nearly 70 percent
among 20-24 year olds.
Those figures do not fully
express the human toll for
1.8 million residents confined
to an area of 160 sq km (60
sq miles), unable to leave
without permits, its report
added.
Palestinians in Gaza, unlike
those in the West Bank, are
not permitted to work in
Israel, which stopped issuing
work permits to Gazans when
the strip fell under control of
Hamas, designated a terrorist
group by the United States
and European Union.
For Gazans, fence with Israel
is a leap into the unknown
Young North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has executed 70
officials since taking power in late 2011 in a “reign of terror”
that far exceeds the bloodshed of his dictator father’s early
rule, South Korean officials said.
South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se, at a forum in
Seoul, compared Kim Jong Un’s 70 executions with those of
his late father, Kim Jong Il, who he said executed about 10
officials during his first years in power.
An official from South Korea’s National Intelligence Service,
who refused to be named, citing office rules, confirmed that
the spy agency believes the younger Kim has executed
about 70 officials but wouldn’t reveal how it obtained the
information.
Yun also said that the younger Kim’s “reign of terror affects
significantly” North Koreans working overseas by inspiring
them to defect to the South, but he also didn’t reveal how he
got the details.
North Korea, an authoritarian nation ruled by the Kim family
since its founding in 1948, is secretive about its govern-
ment’s inner workings, and information collected by out-
siders is often impossible to confirm. High-level government
purges have a long history in North Korea.

The CBI will investigate
the Vyapam scam in
Madhya Pradesh and
more than 40 deaths
allegedly linked to the job
recruitment scandal, the
Supreme Court ruled.
Two days ago, Chief
Minister Shivraj Singh
Chouhan, whose govern-
ment has been badly
bruised by the controversy,
called for a CBI inquiry,
attributing his decision to
"a wish to honour public
sentiment".
A special bench headed by
CJI,H L Dattu ,with other
Supreme Court judges
today were sharp in their
criticism of the Madhya
Pradesh High Court, which
refused yesterday to rule
on whether to reassign the
Vyapam inquiry from the
Madhya Pradesh police to
the CBI. "Instead of taking
a decision, the Madhya
Pradesh High Court
washed its hands off (the
case) and put the ball in
our court," the court said.
Responding to the order,
Mr Chauhan told in his
statement There was a
burden in my heart. I am
relieved that the CBI will
probe and get to the truth."
The Vyapam scam is
named for a state board
that conducts qualifying
tests for colleges and jobs
as government teachers,
doctors and policemen.
Lakhs of candidates paid
bribes to manipulate the
exam process, including
hiring proxies to take the
test for them. Since 2012,
at least 36 people who
have died were investiga-
tors, accused or witness-
es, alleges the opposition
Congress.
Mr Chouhan, for years,
had rejected the allegation
that a state-level inquiry -
even one monitored by the
High Court - would not be
impartial. His call for a CBI
investigation came as the
Supreme Court agreed to
hear petitions asking for
the CBI to be entrusted
with the probe. The peti-
tioners include Digvijaya
Singh, Congress leader
and former Madhya
Pradesh Chief Minister,
and whistle-blowers who
say they regularly receive
death threats but are
determined to prove that
the Chief Minister and
other top leaders are party
to the swindle.
The Supreme Court's deci-
sion to order the CBI to
examine not just the swin-
dle but the spate of deaths
undermines the claim of
the former judge who has
so far supervised the
inquiry. Justice Chandresh
Bhushan told media per-
sons that the deaths
appeared "abnormal but
not mysterious" while
declaring that there was
no evidence of foul play.

ICICI Home Finance Company," it said. However, the
spokesperson refused to comment if the stake sale
would be partial or complete. ICICI HFC had earned a
net profit of Rs 197.57 crore for fiscal ended March
2015.
The company paid interim dividend of 2.75% in June
last year; 2.75% in September; 3.25% in December, and
3.55% in March 2015. Many lenders, especially public
sector banks, are looking to exit from their non-core
business. Central Bank of India has also announced
plan to sell its housing finance business. Punjab
National Bank has already sold part stake in its housing
finance arm. As per the latest annual report of ICICI
Housing Finance Company, the mortgage market con-
tinues to grow, especially in Tier III & IV cities, driven by
primary consumption. This has led to increased focus by
most organised lenders into these markets.

ing finance company, may sell soon
Even as the government grappled with issues including defin-
ing what constitutes wholesale and retail trade in the context of
permitting foreign investment in business-to-consumer (B2C)
e-tailing, e-commerce companies in a meeting with the indus-
try department demanded greater ease of doing business and
urged the Centre to bring out more clarity on tax issues ham-
pering their business.
Meanwhile, in the stakeholders meeting convened by industry
secretary Amitabh Kant, the Confederation of All India Traders
(CAIT) said e-commerce has become a tool for converting
India into a dumping ground, adding that dumping of cheap
goods — even below the actual price of the manufacturer —
happens when prices are artificially lowered by accessing
funds from overseas sources. “E-tailers are openly circum-
venting the norms and indulging in B2C model which is creat-
ing an uneven level playing,” CAIT said in a statement.
Among those who attended the meeting included representa-
tives from CAIT, Retailers Association of India, CII, FICCI,
eBay, Flipkart, Amazon, US-India Business Council, Walmart,
Homeshop18, Pahle India Foundation, Ikea, H&M, and the
Internet and Mobile Association of India.

Mumbai: ShradhaShraddha Kapoor is
on a roll after the success of her latest
outing ‘ABCD 2′ and has managed to
gain a lot of appreciation and love for her
role in the film.
Shraddha Kapoor, who had put a lot of
hard work in the film, had thanked her
“ABCD 2″ team for being so passionate
and hardworking and her choreographer
– director Remo D’Souza, for giving her
the opportunity of a lifetime.
But apart from Remo D’souza, Shraddha
Kapoor owes her success to her first
dance teacher, who taught her the first
steps of dancing in her school days.
Shraddha feels that the basic foundation
of the art was very important to reach this
level of dancing and she handpicked a
special gift for her guru to acknowlegde
the teacher’s contribution. Shraddha,

Mumbai: Actress
Priyanka Chopra,
who will be seen
playing a tough cop
in Prakash Jha’s
forthcoming project
“Gangaajal 2”, says
films with female
protagonists should
not be typecast as
“women-centric”.
The 32-year-old
actress was in the city along with Jha to shoot the film,
whose prequel “Gangaajal” had actor Ajay Devgn essay-
ing role of an IPS officer.
“Why do you stereotype yourself in a particular role..
Nobody talks about film with a male lead in it. No one
terms them ‘men-oriented’ films,” she said, when asked
about female-centric movies doing well at the box-office
lately.
The “Fashion” star, who has an army background as her
late father served defence forces as doctor, said she
finds a difference in playing role of a police officer and an
army personnel.
“There is a lot of difference between the two… My father
used to say ‘vardi ki chaal hi alag hoti hai’ (walk in an uni-
form altogether has a different attitude),” she said.
Priyanka, who will be seen as a FBI agent in upcoming
American thriller television series “Quantico”, praised the
city for its hospitality

Mumbai: Rishi-Kapoor
Gajendra Chauhan, whose
appointment as Film and
Television Institure of India
(FTII) chairman has faced
protests from its students,
should “voluntarily retire”,
says veteran actor Rishi
Kapoor.
Chauhan, who played
‘Yudhishthir’ in
“Mahabharat”, was
appointed as the FTII chief
last month. This was fol-
lowed by protests from stu-
dents, who believe he
lacks the stature and vision
to head the institution.
After several film celebri-
ties supported the voice of
the students, the 62-year-
old actor took to micro-
blogging website Twitter to
express his opinion.
“Advice. After all the
protests and controversy,
Gajendra Chauhan, the
FTII Chairman should vol-
untarily retire. Will do good
to the students.
“If they don’t want you,
they don’t want you. By
pushing for the chairman-
ship is getting you
nowhere. Let self pride
play a role and retire,”
Rishi, who belongs to
Indian cinema’s globally
popular Kapoor clan,
tweeted.
