This document discusses using XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) to standardize Brazil's SPED (Public Digital Bookkeeping System) in order to address issues like lack of standardization and duplicated concepts. It proposes creating a SPEDXBRL taxonomy to replace the current XML and text file formats. This would standardize data extraction and increase quality, interoperability, and continuous auditing while reducing costs. The taxonomy development process is described and results showed consolidating over 3,500 original SPED concepts into 1,213 standardized concepts. Benefits include more consistent reporting, automated analysis, and transparency between regulators and taxpayers.

• Definition Layer: All primary concepts specified in XML
schema files and Label and Reference Linkbases
• Reports Layer: Abstract concepts and Calculation, Definition
and Presentation Linkbases associated with the reporting
structure
SPEDXBRL TAXONOMY ARCHITECTURE
 The SPEDXBRL taxonomy was inspired by the SICONFI
taxonomy architecture:
• Compatibility: propose a model compatible with the other government agencies;
and
• Standardization: to make integration between these bodies.
