Tetracyclines are broad-spectrum antibiotics discovered in the 1940s, effective against various infections but not suitable for immunocompromised patients due to their bacteriostatic nature. They can interfere with the absorption when taken with certain foods and medications and may cause side effects such as tooth discoloration, especially in children and pregnant women. Caution is advised regarding their use, including potential photosensitivity and risks associated with expired formulations.
