Containers can rupture or explode if exposed to heat.
Extremely cold liquid and gas under pressure.
May cause rapid suffocation.
May result in severe frostbite.
May result in dizziness and drowsiness.
Potential Health Effects
Inhalation: Prolonged inhalation of high oxygen concentrations (>75%) may affect
concentration, attention, and cause tiredness or respiratory irritation. Inhalation over
several hours may cause cough, sore throat, chest pain and difficulty breathing.
Eye Contact:
Contact with rapidly expanding gas near the point of release may cause frostbite.
Skin Contact:
Contact with rapidly expanding gas near the point of release may cause frostbite with
redness, skin color change and blistering.
Ingestion:
Not applicable. Product is a gas.
Chronic Health Hazards:
None known.
4. First Aid Measures
General Advice:
None
Eye Contact:
None required for gas.
Skin Contact:
None required for gas.
Ingestion:
None required for gas.
Inhalation:
Overexposure to oxygen is not anticipated under normal working conditions. High
oxygen concentrations in the air may present a fire and explosion hazard. PROMPT
MEDICAL ATTENTION IS MANDATORY IN ALL CASES WHEN OXYGEN IS
INHALED UNDER PRESSURE (i.e., as in scuba diving). Conscious persons should be
assisted to an uncontaminated area and inhale fresh air. Quick removal from the
contaminated area is important. If necessary seek help from a physician. Inform the
physician the patient could be suffering from hyperoxia.
5. Fire-Fighting Measures
Suitable Extinguishing Media Specific Hazards:
High oxygen concentrations vigorously accelerate combustion. Will support or initiate
combustion/explosion of organic matter and other oxidizable material. Cylinder may
vent rapidly or rupture violently from pressure when involved in a fire situation. Use
water spray to keep cylinders cool. Extinguishing agent appropriate for the combustible
material.
Fire Fighting:
If possible stop the flow of oxygen which is supporting the fire. Firefighters should wear
respiratory protection and full turnout or bunker gear. Continue to cool fire exposed
containers until well after flames are extinguished.Move container from fire area if it can
be done without risk. Cool containers with water spray until well after fire is out. Stay
away from ends of tanks. Withdraw immediately in case of rising sound from venting
safety device or any discoloration of tanks due to fire. For high pressure tank, rail car or
tank truck, evacuation radius: 800 meters (1/2 mile). Use extinguishable agents
appropriate for surrounding fire. Cool the containers with water spray until well after the
fire is out. Apply water from a protected location or from a safe distance. Do not get
water directly on material. Reduce vapors with spray water. Avoid inhalation of material
or combustion by-products. Stay upwind and keep out of low areas. Consider downwind
evacuation if material is leaking.
6. Accidental Release Measures
Personal Precautions:
Evacuate all personnel from affected area. A leak near combustible or flammable
materials may representa a severe fire or explosion hazard. Eliminate all ignition
sources. Ventilate enclosed areas. If it can be done without risk, stop the flow of gas or
remove cylinder to outside. Use appropriate protective equipment. If leak is in user’s
equipment, be certain to purge piping with inert gas prior to attempting repairs. If leak is
in container or container valve, contact the appropriate emergency personnel.
Environmental Precautions:
None.
Methods for Cleaning Up:
Stop leak if it can be done so with out personal risk. Keep unnecessary people away,
isolate hazard area and deny entry. Stay upwind and keep out of low areas.
7. Handling and Storage:
Handling
Secure cylinder when using to protect from falling. Use a suitable hand truck to move
cylinders.
Storage:
Store in accordance with all current regulations and standards. Subject to storage
regulations: U.S. OSHA 29 CFR1910.101. Keep separated from incompatible
substances.

Inform the physician the patient could be suffering from hyperoxia. 5. Fire-Fighting Measures Suitable Extinguishing Media Specific Hazards: High oxygen concentrations vigorously accelerate combustion. Will support or initiate combustion/explosion of organic matter and other oxidizable material. Cylinder may vent rapidly or rupture violently from pressure when involved in a fire situation. Use water spray to keep cylinders cool. Extinguishing agent appropriate for the combustible material. Page 2 of 7
  • 3. Fire Fighting: If possible stop the flow of oxygen which is supporting the fire. Firefighters should wear respiratory protection and full turnout or bunker gear. Continue to cool fire exposed containers until well after flames are extinguished.Move container from fire area if it can be done without risk. Cool containers with water spray until well after fire is out. Stay away from ends of tanks. Withdraw immediately in case of rising sound from venting safety device or any discoloration of tanks due to fire. For high pressure tank, rail car or tank truck, evacuation radius: 800 meters (1/2 mile). Use extinguishable agents appropriate for surrounding fire. Cool the containers with water spray until well after the fire is out. Apply water from a protected location or from a safe distance. Do not get water directly on material. Reduce vapors with spray water. Avoid inhalation of material or combustion by-products. Stay upwind and keep out of low areas. Consider downwind evacuation if material is leaking. 6. Accidental Release Measures Personal Precautions: Evacuate all personnel from affected area. A leak near combustible or flammable materials may representa a severe fire or explosion hazard. Eliminate all ignition sources. Ventilate enclosed areas. If it can be done without risk, stop the flow of gas or remove cylinder to outside. Use appropriate protective equipment. If leak is in user’s equipment, be certain to purge piping with inert gas prior to attempting repairs. If leak is in container or container valve, contact the appropriate emergency personnel. Environmental Precautions: None. Methods for Cleaning Up: Stop leak if it can be done so with out personal risk. Keep unnecessary people away, isolate hazard area and deny entry. Stay upwind and keep out of low areas. 7. Handling and Storage: Handling Secure cylinder when using to protect from falling. Use a suitable hand truck to move cylinders. Storage: Store in accordance with all current regulations and standards. Subject to storage regulations: U.S. OSHA 29 CFR1910.101. Keep separated from incompatible substances. Page 3 of 7
  • 4. 8. Exposure Controls/Personal Protection Exposure Limits: ACGIH (simple asphyxiant) Engineering Measures: Provide local exhaust or process enclosure ventilation system. Ensure compliance with applicable exposure limits. Personal Protective Equipment: Respiratory Under conditions of frequent use or heavy exposure, respiratory Protection: protection may be needed. Respiratory protection is ranked in order from minimum to maximum. Consider warning properties before using. For unknown concentrations or immediately dangers to life or health-Any supplied-sir respirator with full face piece and operated in a pressure-demand or other positive pressure mode in combination with a separate escape supply. Any self-contained breathing apparatus with a full face piece. Page 4 of 7 Hand Wear appropriate chemical resistant gloves. Protection: Eye: Wear splash resistant safety goggles.
